Question 740
A team faces this situation: A company needs public AWS service API access across a Direct Connect public VIF but has not advertised eligible public prefixes. It proposes: Configure appropriate public BGP advertisements and verify allowed public service routing. What underlying networking principle BEST explains this decision?
Successful hybrid communication requires both directions to have usable routes and compatible filters
Static routes do not automatically learn newly announced AWS prefixes
A Direct Connect LAG aggregates eligible physical connections with defined compatibility rules
Public VIF reachability has its own route advertisement requirements separate from VPC private routing
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Public VIF reachability has its own route advertisement requirements separate from VPC private routing. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, configure appropriate public BGP advertisements and verify allowed public service routing, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, an established public BGP session with missing public routes can still leave endpoints unreachable. A suitable verification is that approved public endpoint traffic follows the expected Direct Connect public routing path.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Successful hybrid communication requires both directions to have usable routes and compatible filters explains a different case, for example when a remote branch cannot reach AWS because its advertised VPC return prefix is absent from the corporate router. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that public VIF reachability has its own route advertisement requirements separate from VPC private routing; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
Static routes do not automatically learn newly announced AWS prefixes explains a different case, for example when a customer VPN uses static routing while the team expects automatic failover after network changes. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that public VIF reachability has its own route advertisement requirements separate from VPC private routing; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
A Direct Connect LAG aggregates eligible physical connections with defined compatibility rules explains a different case, for example when a network team builds a link aggregation group with circuits of incompatible speed or port location. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that public VIF reachability has its own route advertisement requirements separate from VPC private routing; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 741
An engineer selects the change "Share Transit Gateway through RAM and enforce attachment acceptance and identity policy" because A central networking account wants to accept VPC attachments from member accounts without granting them full gateway administration. Which technical explanation BEST supports it?
Resource sharing grants a controlled attachment capability without transferring central gateway ownership
A private subnet without public IPs uses NAT for ordinary IPv4 internet egress
Gateway route-table association and propagation provide coarse network segmentation across attachments
Transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Resource sharing grants a controlled attachment capability without transferring central gateway ownership. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, share Transit Gateway through RAM and enforce attachment acceptance and identity policy, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, making everyone a Transit Gateway administrator increases unintended topology changes. A suitable verification is that approved member accounts create only permitted attachments and central acceptance is recorded.
Incorrect Answers
B:
A private subnet without public IPs uses NAT for ordinary IPv4 internet egress explains a different case, for example when a team uses a NAT gateway for private-subnet internet access but the private subnet route points to an internet gateway directly. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that resource sharing grants a controlled attachment capability without transferring central gateway ownership; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Gateway route-table association and propagation provide coarse network segmentation across attachments explains a different case, for example when a shared Transit Gateway route table receives propagated spokes but a sensitive subnet must never see the audit VPC. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that resource sharing grants a controlled attachment capability without transferring central gateway ownership; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health explains a different case, for example when an attached spoke VPC cannot reach another spoke despite both attachments being Available on a Transit Gateway. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that resource sharing grants a controlled attachment capability without transferring central gateway ownership; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 742
For the scenario "A compliance team must audit DNS usage for malicious domains from workloads that use VPC resolver", the proposed response is "Collect Route 53 Resolver query logs with account-aware storage and access policy". Which network behavior makes this suitable?
Monitoring needs an actionable alarm route and recipients, not just stored metrics
Resolver query logging records names and client context for associated VPC resolution
Resolver rule changes are control-plane management operations distinct from DNS queries
Flow logs support configurable fields and aggregation for network metadata analysis
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Resolver query logging records names and client context for associated VPC resolution. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, collect Route 53 Resolver query logs with account-aware storage and access policy, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, cloudTrail Route 53 API logs do not enumerate every DNS lookup by an instance. A suitable verification is that test resolver queries are retained with origin context and required permissions.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Monitoring needs an actionable alarm route and recipients, not just stored metrics explains a different case, for example when a service has a surge of VPN tunnel-down events but alerts never notify the networking on-call group. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that resolver query logging records names and client context for associated VPC resolution; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Resolver rule changes are control-plane management operations distinct from DNS queries explains a different case, for example when an AWS account has no trace of who modified a Route 53 Resolver forwarding rule during a DNS incident. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that resolver query logging records names and client context for associated VPC resolution; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Flow logs support configurable fields and aggregation for network metadata analysis explains a different case, for example when a response team has VPC Flow Logs but cannot distinguish accepted and rejected internet attempts by source subnet. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that resolver query logging records names and client context for associated VPC resolution; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 743
AWS architects plan to Add the intended Transit Gateway association and route propagation or static routes on the correct route tables for this requirement: An attached spoke VPC cannot reach another spoke despite both attachments being Available on a Transit Gateway. Which principle is MOST relevant?
Gateway route-table association and propagation provide coarse network segmentation across attachments
IPv6-to-IPv4 reachability requires explicit protocol translation, not just egress-only IPv6 internet access
Transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health
Resource sharing grants a controlled attachment capability without transferring central gateway ownership
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, add the intended Transit Gateway association and route propagation or static routes on the correct route tables, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, available attachments without suitable routes do not permit transit connectivity. A suitable verification is that the correct target attachment appears in the evaluated route path for both directions.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Gateway route-table association and propagation provide coarse network segmentation across attachments explains a different case, for example when a shared Transit Gateway route table receives propagated spokes but a sensitive subnet must never see the audit VPC. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
IPv6-to-IPv4 reachability requires explicit protocol translation, not just egress-only IPv6 internet access explains a different case, for example when a VPC with IPv6-only workloads must reach IPv4-only endpoints while NAT64 support is not configured. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Resource sharing grants a controlled attachment capability without transferring central gateway ownership explains a different case, for example when a central networking account wants to accept VPC attachments from member accounts without granting them full gateway administration. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 744
An AWS network architect encounters this situation: A multiplayer client cannot tolerate DNS change delays during regional failure and uses UDP transport. Which change BEST meets the documented requirement?
Use private cache behaviors or disable caching for sensitive identity-dependent responses
Review origin Cache-Control headers and matching distribution cache behavior TTL settings
Use CloudFront origin access control with a scoped S3 bucket policy
Select Global Accelerator supported UDP listeners and health-checked regional endpoints
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Select Global Accelerator supported UDP listeners and health-checked regional endpoints. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because global Accelerator steering uses stable anycast IPs rather than relying solely on resolver TTL. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that dNS-only switching can leave clients pinned to cached unhealthy addresses. Confirm the improvement by showing that existing endpoint configuration remains constant while new UDP traffic shifts to a healthy Region.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Use private cache behaviors or disable caching for sensitive identity-dependent responses would address a different scenario, such as when an application serves large personalized private documents and must prevent one user's cached response reaching another. The present issue requires select Global Accelerator supported UDP listeners and health-checked regional endpoints because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Review origin Cache-Control headers and matching distribution cache behavior TTL settings would address a different scenario, such as when an online shop sees repeated CloudFront origin fetches for images despite stable object contents. The present issue requires select Global Accelerator supported UDP listeners and health-checked regional endpoints because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Use CloudFront origin access control with a scoped S3 bucket policy would address a different scenario, such as when an S3 static asset origin behind CloudFront must deny direct anonymous bucket reads. The present issue requires select Global Accelerator supported UDP listeners and health-checked regional endpoints because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 745
A networking team must correct the following AWS condition: An API uses application TLS but accepts any certificate hostname for connections to a private upstream. What is the MOST appropriate response?
Enable full certificate chain and hostname validation on the client
Keep end-to-end TLS on the actual application listener and verify certificates
Align private service names with valid certificate SANs or approved client naming conventions
Update both tunnel peers to a mutually supported approved IKE and IPsec algorithm suite
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Enable full certificate chain and hostname validation on the client. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because tLS encryption alone without peer identity checks can allow active interception. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that skipping hostname checks permits an attacker-controlled certificate for a different service. Confirm the improvement by showing that a mismatched upstream certificate is rejected while the trusted host connects.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Keep end-to-end TLS on the actual application listener and verify certificates would address a different scenario, such as when a Global Accelerator TCP application uses TLS at the backend but developers think anycast addresses perform encryption. The present issue requires enable full certificate chain and hostname validation on the client because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Align private service names with valid certificate SANs or approved client naming conventions would address a different scenario, such as when an application uses private DNS for its service but clients fail TLS validation because the certificate contains only the public hostname. The present issue requires enable full certificate chain and hostname validation on the client because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Update both tunnel peers to a mutually supported approved IKE and IPsec algorithm suite would address a different scenario, such as when a Site-to-Site VPN has an old cipher suite that is no longer permitted under corporate cryptographic policy. The present issue requires enable full certificate chain and hostname validation on the client because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 746
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—A regulated business uses Firewall Manager but resource exceptions have no owner or expiration date—which action should the engineer take?
Use extended flow log fields and correct ENI or subnet collection scope
Track policy exceptions centrally with time-bound approval and corrective review
Correlate CloudTrail changes, VPC flow logs and application telemetry by time and resource identifiers
Enable suitable AWS Config recording and network-related compliance evaluations
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Track policy exceptions centrally with time-bound approval and corrective review. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because continuous security governance requires auditable exceptions and predictable expiry. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that permanent unreviewed exclusions can silently remove important workloads from policy. Confirm the improvement by showing that an expired test exception becomes noncompliant and triggers a review.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Use extended flow log fields and correct ENI or subnet collection scope would address a different scenario, such as when a response team has VPC Flow Logs but cannot distinguish accepted and rejected internet attempts by source subnet. The present issue requires track policy exceptions centrally with time-bound approval and corrective review because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Correlate CloudTrail changes, VPC flow logs and application telemetry by time and resource identifiers would address a different scenario, such as when a SOC wants to distinguish whether a network outage followed a VPC routing update or an application deployment. The present issue requires track policy exceptions centrally with time-bound approval and corrective review because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Enable suitable AWS Config recording and network-related compliance evaluations would address a different scenario, such as when an auditor asks for evidence that prohibited network routes are detected if changed outside IaC. The present issue requires track policy exceptions centrally with time-bound approval and corrective review because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 747
A cloud architect observes the following gap: A finance environment uses AWS Network Firewall but the rule group is set to log-only while policy requires blocking. Which outcome is the principal concern?
A VPC network ACL cannot replace application-aware HTTP filtering
Unnecessary broad inbound SG rules allow new unwanted connections, not just replies
A matching alert alone does not stop prohibited traffic from reaching its target
Treating VPN encryption alone as segmentation can expose unintended services
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
A matching alert alone does not stop prohibited traffic from reaching its target. The missing control matters because detect-only visibility and packet blocking are different network-control outcomes. The appropriate corrective action is to set the supported firewall rule action and stateful inspection policy to enforce intended denial. To check the outcome, verify that negative packets are dropped and a corresponding firewall alert is retained.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A VPC network ACL cannot replace application-aware HTTP filtering can be a real consequence when an internet-facing application must block malicious HTTP request signatures but preserve normal API calls. Here the relevant failure is that a matching alert alone does not stop prohibited traffic from reaching its target. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
Unnecessary broad inbound SG rules allow new unwanted connections, not just replies can be a real consequence when a network engineer opens all ephemeral ports inbound in a security group believing return packets require explicit permits. Here the relevant failure is that a matching alert alone does not stop prohibited traffic from reaching its target. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Treating VPN encryption alone as segmentation can expose unintended services can be a real consequence when a government workload must prove that only approved ports cross an external VPN into a regulated VPC. Here the relevant failure is that a matching alert alone does not stop prohibited traffic from reaching its target. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 748
This AWS networking condition remains unresolved: A large AWS organization needs egress through centralized networking while preserving per-spoke isolation. What is the MOST direct risk?
Attaching a firewall VPC alone does not force other attachments to traverse it
VPC peering requires more direct connections and is not naturally transitive
Sharing the provider account's full route table is not needed for one selected service
Creating a NAT gateway in one VPC does not automatically serve remote VPCs
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Creating a NAT gateway in one VPC does not automatically serve remote VPCs. The missing control matters because central egress requires matching spoke default routes and return-path routes through approved shared services. The appropriate corrective action is to use routed egress VPC design with appropriate Transit Gateway attachment and NAT/firewall architecture. To check the outcome, verify that spoke internet-bound test traffic exits the selected egress path with correct return routing.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Attaching a firewall VPC alone does not force other attachments to traverse it can be a real consequence when a company wants security appliances in one inspection VPC but discovers spoke traffic can bypass the appliance. Here the relevant failure is that creating a NAT gateway in one VPC does not automatically serve remote VPCs. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
VPC peering requires more direct connections and is not naturally transitive can be a real consequence when a group has dozens of VPCs requiring selective hub-and-spoke reachability rather than hundreds of peering links. Here the relevant failure is that creating a NAT gateway in one VPC does not automatically serve remote VPCs. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Sharing the provider account's full route table is not needed for one selected service can be a real consequence when two accounts need to expose a service but organization policy forbids consumer access to provider route tables. Here the relevant failure is that creating a NAT gateway in one VPC does not automatically serve remote VPCs. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 749
An engineer selects the change "Associate the VIF or Direct Connect gateway with the supported target gateway and verify ownership" because A team configured a Direct Connect private VIF but selected the wrong AWS account's virtual private gateway. Which technical explanation BEST supports it?
Gateway attachments and association permissions govern which VPC receives hybrid prefixes
VPN tunnel peers must reference the actual reachable on-premises public endpoint
Public VIF reachability has its own route advertisement requirements separate from VPC private routing
Dynamic routing convergence requires failure detection and withdrawing unusable next hops
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Gateway attachments and association permissions govern which VPC receives hybrid prefixes. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, associate the VIF or Direct Connect gateway with the supported target gateway and verify ownership, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, a correctly tagged VLAN cannot deliver traffic to an unrelated gateway. A suitable verification is that attachment associations show the expected AWS resource and route reachability.
Incorrect Answers
B:
VPN tunnel peers must reference the actual reachable on-premises public endpoint explains a different case, for example when a migration moves a customer gateway to a new public IP address but the Site-to-Site VPN attachment still references the old address. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that gateway attachments and association permissions govern which VPC receives hybrid prefixes; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Public VIF reachability has its own route advertisement requirements separate from VPC private routing explains a different case, for example when a company needs public AWS service API access across a Direct Connect public VIF but has not advertised eligible public prefixes. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that gateway attachments and association permissions govern which VPC receives hybrid prefixes; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Dynamic routing convergence requires failure detection and withdrawing unusable next hops explains a different case, for example when a disaster recovery exercise shows VPN routes remain pinned to a removed data center after an appliance failure. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that gateway attachments and association permissions govern which VPC receives hybrid prefixes; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 750
For the scenario "A multi-VPC application shows intermittent failure only when crossing a Transit Gateway after a recent route change", the proposed response is "Use Route Analyzer and relevant gateway flow logs with timestamps to identify attachment hops". Which network behavior makes this suitable?
Tunnel status indicates control connectivity but may conceal application-plane impairment
End-user latency includes DNS, internet path, edge, TLS, and origin time
Packet mirroring captures selected packet-level details missing from summary flow records
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Transit route analysis connects gateway route configuration to observed flow paths. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, use Route Analyzer and relevant gateway flow logs with timestamps to identify attachment hops, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, looking solely at instance CPU does not reveal a wrong transit attachment. A suitable verification is that affected flows map to the incorrect route and recover after a controlled correction.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Tunnel status indicates control connectivity but may conceal application-plane impairment explains a different case, for example when an application sees packet loss after changing a VPN's customer equipment but AWS tunnel metrics show Up. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that transit route analysis connects gateway route configuration to observed flow paths; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
End-user latency includes DNS, internet path, edge, TLS, and origin time explains a different case, for example when an API response is slow only for overseas users despite healthy compute and regional ALB metrics. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that transit route analysis connects gateway route configuration to observed flow paths; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Packet mirroring captures selected packet-level details missing from summary flow records explains a different case, for example when an investigation requires knowing whether an EC2 guest received a malformed packet that flow records cannot describe. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that transit route analysis connects gateway route configuration to observed flow paths; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.

AWS ANS-C01 Advanced Networking Specialty: Designing and Operating Complex Networks Before Retirement
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (ANS-C01) remains available in 2026, but it is a retiring certification.AWS states that December 31, 2026 is the last day to take the exam; certifications earned before retirement remain active for the standard three-year period. Candidates who plan to finish during the remaining window should verify scheduling early and prepare from the current exam guide rather than assuming the specialty will continue into 2027.
The exam is intended for networking specialists who design, implement, manage and secure AWS and hybrid network architectures at scale. AWS recommends about five years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing network solutions. That experience expectation is important: ANS-C01 is not a survey of VPC terminology. It asks candidates to combine routing, DNS, hybrid connectivity, multi-account design, edge services, automation, monitoring and security under real operational constraints. A focused overview ofAWS advanced networking can help frame how those topics interact, but the official domains should govern final preparation.
Network Design carries the largest share of the exam
The current ANS-C01 guide weights Network Design at 30% of scored content. The domain includes global edge services and traffic management, public and private DNS, load balancing, logging and monitoring requirements, hybrid routing, and connectivity across multiple accounts, Regions and VPCs. The common skill is architecture: selecting a pattern that meets availability, performance, security and operational requirements before implementation begins.
Advanced designs often have several technically valid options. A candidate may need to choose among Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Global Accelerator, CloudFront or load-balancing patterns based on requirements that are easy to overlook. Transitive routing, overlapping CIDR blocks, private service exposure, encryption, throughput, latency and administrative boundaries can change the right answer even when all choices provide “connectivity.”
This is whyAWS VPC should be understood as the foundation of a wider topology rather than the whole design. CIDR planning, subnet placement, route tables, gateways, endpoints and security controls determine the local behavior, but enterprise architectures then connect many VPCs, accounts and regions. Addressing decisions that look harmless in one VPC can become major constraints when networks need to merge later.
AWS networking specialists routinely connect cloud networks to data centers, branches and other environments. Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN and BGP are therefore central concepts. Candidates should know why multiple connections are used, how routing preferences influence the active path, what happens when a circuit fails, and how encryption requirements affect the design.
The mechanics ofIPsec site-to-site VPNs are especially relevant because a tunnel being “up” does not prove the end-to-end application path is correct. Route propagation, local and remote prefixes, security controls, MTU, NAT and asymmetric routing can all create failures. Strong troubleshooting begins by defining the expected path and then validating each dependency rather than rebuilding the tunnel immediately.
Direct Connect introduces additional design choices such as redundancy, virtual interfaces and interaction with VPN backup. Professional networking judgment means matching the level of resilience to the business requirement. Two connections that share a physical dependency do not provide the same protection as truly diverse paths, and a backup path that has never been tested may fail exactly when it is needed.
Network Implementation tests execution across accounts and regions
Network Implementation represents 26% of scored content. AWS explicitly includes routing and connectivity between on-premises networks and AWS, multi-account and multi-region patterns, complex hybrid DNS, and automation of network infrastructure. Candidates should therefore be able to move from an architecture diagram to concrete behavior: which routes propagate, where attachments belong, how DNS queries flow, and how configuration is created consistently.
Automation matters because large networks cannot be managed reliably through ad hoc console changes. Infrastructure as code, repeatable configuration and controlled deployment reduce drift and make review easier. The exam does not require every automation tool in the AWS portfolio, but candidates should understand why declarative, repeatable network changes are preferable to manual one-off edits in environments with many accounts and regions.
DNS and traffic management are resilience tools
DNS is more than mapping a name to an address. Route 53 routing policies, health checks, public and private hosted zones, resolvers and hybrid forwarding rules can determine where users and applications connect during normal operation and failure. A deeper look atRoute 53 and cloud DNS helps connect record design to availability, but exam questions may require reasoning about split-horizon namespaces, resolver endpoints, forwarding rules and the effect of TTLs on recovery.
Edge and traffic-management services also affect performance. CloudFront, Global Accelerator and Elastic Load Balancing solve different problems. The correct choice depends on protocol, caching needs, user geography, endpoint health, security controls and how traffic should enter the architecture. Candidates should avoid choosing a service simply because it sounds “global”; they should match the service behavior to the application requirement.
Management and Operations turns topology into a supportable service
Network Management and Operation accounts for 20% of scored content. This domain covers maintaining routing and connectivity, monitoring network health, troubleshooting performance and resolving complex connectivity problems. The operational challenge is that many failures produce similar symptoms. A user who cannot reach an application might be affected by DNS, routing, NACLs, security groups, endpoint policies, firewall inspection, load-balancer health, BGP advertisements or the application itself.
Good troubleshooting is evidence-based. Determine the expected source, destination and path. Check routing and name resolution. Verify security controls. Use logs and metrics to see whether traffic reaches each layer. Compare a failing flow with a known-good flow where possible. This approach is slower than guessing for the first minute and much faster than changing several network components without a hypothesis.
Observability should also be designed in advance. VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch metrics, load-balancer logs, Route 53 health information and other telemetry are more useful when teams know what question each source can answer. Logging everything without a retention, analysis or alerting plan can create cost without improving supportability.
Security, Compliance and Governance remain network responsibilities
The fourth domain, Network Security, Compliance and Governance, carries 24% of scored content. AWS expects candidates to implement and maintain controls that meet security requirements, validate and audit those controls through monitoring and logging, and maintain confidentiality of network communications. This places security directly inside the networking role.
Security groups and network ACLs provide filtering at different layers, while AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Shield and inspection architectures address additional threat models. PrivateLink and VPC endpoints can reduce public exposure for service access. TLS and IPsec protect communications in different contexts. The exam can ask candidates to choose a design that preserves both required access and evidence for compliance, not merely the design with the most controls.
Multi-account governance adds another dimension. Centralized networking can simplify inspection and connectivity, but it also creates shared dependencies. Distributed models can improve autonomy but increase consistency challenges. Candidates should understand the blast-radius and operational implications of each model rather than treating centralization as automatically better.
AWS networking services must be treated as a toolkit
Production environments rarely depend on one networking service. Reviewing theAWS networking toolkit is useful because advanced scenarios combine VPC constructs with load balancers, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs, Route 53, CloudFront, Global Accelerator, PrivateLink, network security services and monitoring. The exam often rewards the smallest combination that satisfies all stated requirements.
Service limits and operational complexity matter too. Adding another transit layer, NAT path or inspection hop can solve one problem while increasing latency, cost or troubleshooting difficulty. Advanced candidates should be able to explain not only what a service enables but what new dependency it introduces.
Current mechanics and the retirement deadline shape preparation
ANS-C01 currently contains 65 multiple-choice or multiple-response questions and allows 170 minutes. AWS lists the exam at the Specialty level and notes the December 31, 2026 retirement date. The current guide weights the domains as Network Design 30%, Network Implementation 26%, Network Management and Operation 20%, and Network Security, Compliance and Governance 24%.
The retirement date changes preparation strategy. Candidates with strong networking and AWS experience may have enough time to close focused gaps and schedule before year-end. Candidates who are still learning basic routing, VPC concepts or hybrid networking should be realistic about whether rushing the specialty produces lasting skill. AWS states that no new Advanced Networking – Specialty certifications will be issued after retirement and directs learners to its ongoing networking training portfolio rather than promising an automatic successor exam.
Use architecture drills and failure scenarios to prepare
Build or diagram several recurring patterns: a multi-account hub-and-spoke network, hybrid connectivity with redundant paths, centralized inspection, private service access, cross-region connectivity and public applications with global traffic management. For each design, state the routes, DNS behavior, security boundaries, failure modes and monitoring evidence. Then change one requirement and see whether the architecture still holds.
Failure drills are equally valuable. Withdraw a route, break a resolver rule, misconfigure a security group, create an unhealthy target or alter a BGP advertisement. Trace the symptoms and use logs or metrics to identify the cause. These exercises mirror the exam’s real difficulty: many AWS networking services are easy to define, but complex environments require judgment about how they interact.
ANS-C01 remains a demanding and relevant networking assessment during its final exam window. Candidates who can reason from requirements to topology, implement the path, observe its behavior and secure it under change will be far better prepared than those who memorize isolated service descriptions.

We don't say that these free VCEs sent by our members aren't reliable (experience shows that they are). But you should use your critical thinking as to what you download and memorize.
