AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty ANS-C01 Practice Test 7
Question 60
This AWS networking condition remains unresolved: A hybrid transit network has many attachments and needs a central view of route reachability and network events. What is the MOST direct risk?
A successful configuration analysis cannot guarantee application health or external network behavior
One successful ping cannot establish capacity, jitter, or long-term service resilience
Flow Logs alone cannot show the packet bytes required for this authorized analysis
Checking one EC2 instance dashboard alone does not expose transit attachment connectivity
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Checking one EC2 instance dashboard alone does not expose transit attachment connectivity. The missing control matters because network Manager provides aggregate topology and route visibility for supported hybrid networking. The appropriate corrective action is to use AWS Network Manager views and relevant Transit Gateway telemetry. To check the outcome, verify that attachment state and route views match the approved network topology.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A successful configuration analysis cannot guarantee application health or external network behavior can be a real consequence when a network engineer wants automated proof that a security group and route table permit an intended VPC path. Here the relevant failure is that checking one EC2 instance dashboard alone does not expose transit attachment connectivity. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
One successful ping cannot establish capacity, jitter, or long-term service resilience can be a real consequence when a business needs a defensible hybrid network baseline for latency, packet loss, and utilization before adding Direct Connect. Here the relevant failure is that checking one EC2 instance dashboard alone does not expose transit attachment connectivity. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Flow Logs alone cannot show the packet bytes required for this authorized analysis can be a real consequence when a security analyst must inspect packet payload characteristics from supported EC2 network interfaces in a lab. Here the relevant failure is that checking one EC2 instance dashboard alone does not expose transit attachment connectivity. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 61
A network review finds: An international API needs path-based origin routing while protecting the origin from direct public use. Which consequence MOST clearly explains the need for a fix?
An unrestricted origin endpoint bypasses edge policies and may be directly abused
Changing an S3 bucket name will not fix a zero-TTL edge cache policy
Including every query parameter unnecessarily reduces edge cache reuse
Publishing a single regional public IP alone may create avoidable geographic latency
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
An unrestricted origin endpoint bypasses edge policies and may be directly abused. The missing control matters because cloudFront behaviors can select origins by path and gate the supported origin access pattern. The appropriate corrective action is to configure CloudFront behavior routing and supported origin access restrictions. To check the outcome, verify that expected paths reach their intended origin and unauthorized direct-origin requests fail.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Changing an S3 bucket name will not fix a zero-TTL edge cache policy can be a real consequence when an online shop sees repeated CloudFront origin fetches for images despite stable object contents. Here the relevant failure is that an unrestricted origin endpoint bypasses edge policies and may be directly abused. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Including every query parameter unnecessarily reduces edge cache reuse can be a real consequence when a news publisher wants different images cached by device class but never by irrelevant tracking parameters. Here the relevant failure is that an unrestricted origin endpoint bypasses edge policies and may be directly abused. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Publishing a single regional public IP alone may create avoidable geographic latency can be a real consequence when a website requires viewers in distant locations to reach the nearest available HTTP edge with HTTPS termination. Here the relevant failure is that an unrestricted origin endpoint bypasses edge policies and may be directly abused. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 62
Following remediation of "A private application needs one coherent DNS resolution path from many shared-network VPCs to corporate systems", what evidence MOST directly establishes that it works?
Resolvers from tested regions receive healthy latency-appropriate answers
Representative workload VPCs resolve the corporate domain through the same approved chain
External iterative resolution reaches the child zone authoritative name servers
The same instance resolves its private name and an allowed public domain
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Representative workload VPCs resolve the corporate domain through the same approved chain. This directly tests whether the selected change, share Resolver forwarding rules and endpoint connectivity through an approved multi-account pattern, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that centralized conditional forwarding can reduce inconsistent duplicated DNS configurations. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that assuming a rule in one VPC automatically applies across all accounts leaves queries broken.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Resolvers from tested regions receive healthy latency-appropriate answers might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company wants users routed to the lowest-latency regional application while retaining health checks. This question instead requires demonstrating that representative workload VPCs resolve the corporate domain through the same approved chain. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
External iterative resolution reaches the child zone authoritative name servers might confirm another remediation, for instance when a parent domain delegates a subdomain to another independently administered public hosted zone. This question instead requires demonstrating that representative workload VPCs resolve the corporate domain through the same approved chain. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
The same instance resolves its private name and an allowed public domain might confirm another remediation, for instance when an EC2 application in a VPC must resolve both internal records and external internet domain names. This question instead requires demonstrating that representative workload VPCs resolve the corporate domain through the same approved chain. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 63
AWS architects plan to Enable full certificate chain and hostname validation on the client for this requirement: An API uses application TLS but accepts any certificate hostname for connections to a private upstream. Which principle is MOST relevant?
TLS server identity verification depends on hostname matches in presented certificate identities
TLS termination on the front-end listener does not automatically encrypt ALB-to-target traffic
TLS encryption alone without peer identity checks can allow active interception
Trusting the remote database identity is distinct from simply encrypting connection bytes
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
TLS encryption alone without peer identity checks can allow active interception. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, enable full certificate chain and hostname validation on the client, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, skipping hostname checks permits an attacker-controlled certificate for a different service. A suitable verification is that a mismatched upstream certificate is rejected while the trusted host connects.
Incorrect Answers
A:
TLS server identity verification depends on hostname matches in presented certificate identities explains a different case, for example when a public API rotates keys but clients fail after a new wildcard certificate omits a particular hostname. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that tLS encryption alone without peer identity checks can allow active interception; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
TLS termination on the front-end listener does not automatically encrypt ALB-to-target traffic explains a different case, for example when an application accepts HTTPS from users but forwards plaintext credentials from the ALB to EC2 targets. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that tLS encryption alone without peer identity checks can allow active interception; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Trusting the remote database identity is distinct from simply encrypting connection bytes explains a different case, for example when a company uses encrypted RDS connections but EC2 applications do not validate the RDS server certificate. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that tLS encryption alone without peer identity checks can allow active interception; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 64
The team addressed this problem: An application uses private DNS for its service but clients fail TLS validation because the certificate contains only the public hostname. Which observation BEST demonstrates the required result?
New client keys are issued securely and the exposed credentials are revoked
Every redirect remains on authenticated HTTPS and no token appears in a URL
A connection capture confirms TLS between the client and its intended backend
Clients resolve the private name and validate a matching certificate chain
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Clients resolve the private name and validate a matching certificate chain. This directly tests whether the selected change, align private service names with valid certificate SANs or approved client naming conventions, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that dNS naming and certificate identity must match regardless of whether the IP is private. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that a private endpoint does not bypass normal TLS hostname validation.
Incorrect Answers
A:
New client keys are issued securely and the exposed credentials are revoked might confirm another remediation, for instance when an internal service uses mutual TLS but its client certificates are copied into publicly accessible build artifacts. This question instead requires demonstrating that clients resolve the private name and validate a matching certificate chain. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
Every redirect remains on authenticated HTTPS and no token appears in a URL might confirm another remediation, for instance when a customer VPN carries application traffic securely but an application returns sensitive session tokens through an unauthenticated HTTP redirect. This question instead requires demonstrating that clients resolve the private name and validate a matching certificate chain. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
A connection capture confirms TLS between the client and its intended backend might confirm another remediation, for instance when a Global Accelerator TCP application uses TLS at the backend but developers think anycast addresses perform encryption. This question instead requires demonstrating that clients resolve the private name and validate a matching certificate chain. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 65
A network review finds: A security team wants automatic alerting on permissive security-group changes in sensitive VPCs. Which consequence MOST clearly explains the need for a fix?
A static weekly report may detect excessive permissions too late
Resolver query logging cannot necessarily reveal the administrator who changed rule association
A blocked ping alone cannot distinguish security policy from application failure
Only collecting VPC Flow Logs omits request-level and firewall-rule decisions
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
A static weekly report may detect excessive permissions too late. The missing control matters because event-driven governance can turn networking configuration drift into timely operational response. The appropriate corrective action is to link supported Config or CloudTrail events to monitored EventBridge and notification workflow. To check the outcome, verify that a test broad ingress change triggers a routed compliance finding and workflow.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Resolver query logging cannot necessarily reveal the administrator who changed rule association can be a real consequence when an AWS account has no trace of who modified a Route 53 Resolver forwarding rule during a DNS incident. Here the relevant failure is that a static weekly report may detect excessive permissions too late. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
A blocked ping alone cannot distinguish security policy from application failure can be a real consequence when a security reviewer needs a repeatable audit that production VPC paths cannot reach a prohibited subnet. Here the relevant failure is that a static weekly report may detect excessive permissions too late. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Only collecting VPC Flow Logs omits request-level and firewall-rule decisions can be a real consequence when a company needs to preserve compliance evidence from ALB, CloudFront, and Network Firewall in one protected location. Here the relevant failure is that a static weekly report may detect excessive permissions too late. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 66
What failure mode is MOST relevant if a team ignores this issue: A service must authenticate incoming HTTPS clients at a proxy without terminating encryption at the wrong tier?
Making the endpoint internet-facing violates the private-network requirement
Assuming TCP passthrough performs application-layer client certificate validation can be incorrect
Changing DNS round-robin alone may not achieve the requested per-request controlled distribution
A plain Network Load Balancer cannot interpret HTTP paths as ALB listener rules do
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Assuming TCP passthrough performs application-layer client certificate validation can be incorrect. The missing control matters because tLS listener design determines which component possesses the private key and sees plaintext. The appropriate corrective action is to select compatible load balancer TLS termination or passthrough and certificate-validation placement. To check the outcome, verify that packet and certificate tests show the designated hop performs the required authentication.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Making the endpoint internet-facing violates the private-network requirement can be a real consequence when a private database proxy must only be reachable from application subnets within a VPC. Here the relevant failure is that assuming TCP passthrough performs application-layer client certificate validation can be incorrect. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Changing DNS round-robin alone may not achieve the requested per-request controlled distribution can be a real consequence when a blue-green API deployment needs weighted HTTP routing to two target groups for a controlled release. Here the relevant failure is that assuming TCP passthrough performs application-layer client certificate validation can be incorrect. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
A plain Network Load Balancer cannot interpret HTTP paths as ALB listener rules do can be a real consequence when a web application needs path routing, HTTP host rules, and WAF inspection for incoming requests. Here the relevant failure is that assuming TCP passthrough performs application-layer client certificate validation can be incorrect. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 67
A cloud architect observes the following gap: An infrastructure pipeline creates an interface VPC endpoint then outputs the endpoint ID before it is available. Which outcome is the principal concern?
Console-only ad hoc changes create hard-to-audit inconsistent topology
A dashboard with no active alerting permits known route drift to persist
Treating an API create response as operational readiness can cause transient deployment failures
A broad unreviewed security-group change can disrupt unrelated production workloads
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Treating an API create response as operational readiness can cause transient deployment failures. The missing control matters because network resources are often provisioned asynchronously and require status validation. The appropriate corrective action is to wait for appropriate API resource states and dependency readiness in orchestration. To check the outcome, verify that automation proceeds only after the endpoint is Available and the DNS test passes.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Console-only ad hoc changes create hard-to-audit inconsistent topology can be a real consequence when a company creates hundreds of VPC route tables manually and cannot reproduce routing decisions after a disaster. Here the relevant failure is that treating an API create response as operational readiness can cause transient deployment failures. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
A dashboard with no active alerting permits known route drift to persist can be a real consequence when an AWS Config rule finds unauthorized changes in VPC route tables but nobody learns about them until audit time. Here the relevant failure is that treating an API create response as operational readiness can cause transient deployment failures. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
A broad unreviewed security-group change can disrupt unrelated production workloads can be a real consequence when an application subnet must be isolated automatically whenever a security event tags it as compromised. Here the relevant failure is that treating an API create response as operational readiness can cause transient deployment failures. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 68
An AWS network architect encounters this situation: A service must authenticate incoming HTTPS clients at a proxy without terminating encryption at the wrong tier. Which change BEST meets the documented requirement?
Offer the service through PrivateLink endpoint service backed by an NLB where supported
Choose Gateway Load Balancer with appliance targets and service insertion endpoints
Configure a dedicated appropriate target-group health-check endpoint and matcher
Select compatible load balancer TLS termination or passthrough and certificate-validation placement
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Select compatible load balancer TLS termination or passthrough and certificate-validation placement. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because tLS listener design determines which component possesses the private key and sees plaintext. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that assuming TCP passthrough performs application-layer client certificate validation can be incorrect. Confirm the improvement by showing that packet and certificate tests show the designated hop performs the required authentication.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Offer the service through PrivateLink endpoint service backed by an NLB where supported would address a different scenario, such as when a consumer needs to reach an application by private VPC endpoint across accounts without full IP connectivity. The present issue requires select compatible load balancer TLS termination or passthrough and certificate-validation placement because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Choose Gateway Load Balancer with appliance targets and service insertion endpoints would address a different scenario, such as when a fleet of virtual firewalls must receive traffic with flow symmetry and transparent appliance insertion. The present issue requires select compatible load balancer TLS termination or passthrough and certificate-validation placement because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Configure a dedicated appropriate target-group health-check endpoint and matcher would address a different scenario, such as when a batch service runs healthy processes but fails ALB health checks because the probe path requires a user login. The present issue requires select compatible load balancer TLS termination or passthrough and certificate-validation placement because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 69
A networking team must correct the following AWS condition: A company wants a standard encrypted hybrid network across Regions but each stack manually selects a different VPN policy. What is the MOST appropriate response?
Use reusable CloudFormation modules or CDK constructs with versioned security parameters
Run IaC change previews plus reachability tests against critical packet paths
Define network infrastructure through version-controlled CloudFormation or CDK constructs
Connect compliance findings to monitored EventBridge events and appropriate remediation workflow
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Use reusable CloudFormation modules or CDK constructs with versioned security parameters. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because reusable IaC modules standardize configurations and enable controlled regional exceptions. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that repeated manual tunnel settings may create incompatible or weak cryptographic policies. Confirm the improvement by showing that regional deployments use reviewed compatible VPN options and pass connection tests.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Run IaC change previews plus reachability tests against critical packet paths would address a different scenario, such as when a network pipeline requires assurance that a proposed security group modification will not break known dependencies. The present issue requires use reusable CloudFormation modules or CDK constructs with versioned security parameters because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Define network infrastructure through version-controlled CloudFormation or CDK constructs would address a different scenario, such as when a company creates hundreds of VPC route tables manually and cannot reproduce routing decisions after a disaster. The present issue requires use reusable CloudFormation modules or CDK constructs with versioned security parameters because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Connect compliance findings to monitored EventBridge events and appropriate remediation workflow would address a different scenario, such as when an AWS Config rule finds unauthorized changes in VPC route tables but nobody learns about them until audit time. The present issue requires use reusable CloudFormation modules or CDK constructs with versioned security parameters because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 70
Following remediation of "A spoke VPC with a default route to Transit Gateway cannot reach the internet through central NAT because the egress VPC lacks the return path", what evidence MOST directly establishes that it works?
An IPv6-only test host resolves and reaches a documented IPv4-only endpoint
A test source retains connection state and responses return via the approved central egress
The intended subnet route tables each identify the Transit Gateway as next hop
Clients use private endpoint names and do not receive broad provider route access
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
A test source retains connection state and responses return via the approved central egress. This directly tests whether the selected change, complete egress and return routing through the transit attachment, NAT gateway and gateway route tables, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that centralized egress must provide a working bidirectional route chain through stateful NAT. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that putting 0.0.0.0/0 in one spoke subnet is insufficient by itself.
Incorrect Answers
A:
An IPv6-only test host resolves and reaches a documented IPv4-only endpoint might confirm another remediation, for instance when a VPC with IPv6-only workloads must reach IPv4-only endpoints while NAT64 support is not configured. This question instead requires demonstrating that a test source retains connection state and responses return via the approved central egress. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
The intended subnet route tables each identify the Transit Gateway as next hop might confirm another remediation, for instance when a service team has two private subnets but one subnet has no route toward the shared Transit Gateway. This question instead requires demonstrating that a test source retains connection state and responses return via the approved central egress. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
Clients use private endpoint names and do not receive broad provider route access might confirm another remediation, for instance when an on-premises office needs private access to a service distributed across provider VPCs with overlapping CIDRs. This question instead requires demonstrating that a test source retains connection state and responses return via the approved central egress. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.

AWS ANS-C01 Advanced Networking Specialty: Designing and Operating Complex Networks Before Retirement
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (ANS-C01) remains available in 2026, but it is a retiring certification.AWS states that December 31, 2026 is the last day to take the exam; certifications earned before retirement remain active for the standard three-year period. Candidates who plan to finish during the remaining window should verify scheduling early and prepare from the current exam guide rather than assuming the specialty will continue into 2027.
The exam is intended for networking specialists who design, implement, manage and secure AWS and hybrid network architectures at scale. AWS recommends about five years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing network solutions. That experience expectation is important: ANS-C01 is not a survey of VPC terminology. It asks candidates to combine routing, DNS, hybrid connectivity, multi-account design, edge services, automation, monitoring and security under real operational constraints. A focused overview ofAWS advanced networking can help frame how those topics interact, but the official domains should govern final preparation.
Network Design carries the largest share of the exam
The current ANS-C01 guide weights Network Design at 30% of scored content. The domain includes global edge services and traffic management, public and private DNS, load balancing, logging and monitoring requirements, hybrid routing, and connectivity across multiple accounts, Regions and VPCs. The common skill is architecture: selecting a pattern that meets availability, performance, security and operational requirements before implementation begins.
Advanced designs often have several technically valid options. A candidate may need to choose among Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Global Accelerator, CloudFront or load-balancing patterns based on requirements that are easy to overlook. Transitive routing, overlapping CIDR blocks, private service exposure, encryption, throughput, latency and administrative boundaries can change the right answer even when all choices provide “connectivity.”
This is whyAWS VPC should be understood as the foundation of a wider topology rather than the whole design. CIDR planning, subnet placement, route tables, gateways, endpoints and security controls determine the local behavior, but enterprise architectures then connect many VPCs, accounts and regions. Addressing decisions that look harmless in one VPC can become major constraints when networks need to merge later.
AWS networking specialists routinely connect cloud networks to data centers, branches and other environments. Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN and BGP are therefore central concepts. Candidates should know why multiple connections are used, how routing preferences influence the active path, what happens when a circuit fails, and how encryption requirements affect the design.
The mechanics ofIPsec site-to-site VPNs are especially relevant because a tunnel being “up” does not prove the end-to-end application path is correct. Route propagation, local and remote prefixes, security controls, MTU, NAT and asymmetric routing can all create failures. Strong troubleshooting begins by defining the expected path and then validating each dependency rather than rebuilding the tunnel immediately.
Direct Connect introduces additional design choices such as redundancy, virtual interfaces and interaction with VPN backup. Professional networking judgment means matching the level of resilience to the business requirement. Two connections that share a physical dependency do not provide the same protection as truly diverse paths, and a backup path that has never been tested may fail exactly when it is needed.
Network Implementation tests execution across accounts and regions
Network Implementation represents 26% of scored content. AWS explicitly includes routing and connectivity between on-premises networks and AWS, multi-account and multi-region patterns, complex hybrid DNS, and automation of network infrastructure. Candidates should therefore be able to move from an architecture diagram to concrete behavior: which routes propagate, where attachments belong, how DNS queries flow, and how configuration is created consistently.
Automation matters because large networks cannot be managed reliably through ad hoc console changes. Infrastructure as code, repeatable configuration and controlled deployment reduce drift and make review easier. The exam does not require every automation tool in the AWS portfolio, but candidates should understand why declarative, repeatable network changes are preferable to manual one-off edits in environments with many accounts and regions.
DNS and traffic management are resilience tools
DNS is more than mapping a name to an address. Route 53 routing policies, health checks, public and private hosted zones, resolvers and hybrid forwarding rules can determine where users and applications connect during normal operation and failure. A deeper look atRoute 53 and cloud DNS helps connect record design to availability, but exam questions may require reasoning about split-horizon namespaces, resolver endpoints, forwarding rules and the effect of TTLs on recovery.
Edge and traffic-management services also affect performance. CloudFront, Global Accelerator and Elastic Load Balancing solve different problems. The correct choice depends on protocol, caching needs, user geography, endpoint health, security controls and how traffic should enter the architecture. Candidates should avoid choosing a service simply because it sounds “global”; they should match the service behavior to the application requirement.
Management and Operations turns topology into a supportable service
Network Management and Operation accounts for 20% of scored content. This domain covers maintaining routing and connectivity, monitoring network health, troubleshooting performance and resolving complex connectivity problems. The operational challenge is that many failures produce similar symptoms. A user who cannot reach an application might be affected by DNS, routing, NACLs, security groups, endpoint policies, firewall inspection, load-balancer health, BGP advertisements or the application itself.
Good troubleshooting is evidence-based. Determine the expected source, destination and path. Check routing and name resolution. Verify security controls. Use logs and metrics to see whether traffic reaches each layer. Compare a failing flow with a known-good flow where possible. This approach is slower than guessing for the first minute and much faster than changing several network components without a hypothesis.
Observability should also be designed in advance. VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch metrics, load-balancer logs, Route 53 health information and other telemetry are more useful when teams know what question each source can answer. Logging everything without a retention, analysis or alerting plan can create cost without improving supportability.
Security, Compliance and Governance remain network responsibilities
The fourth domain, Network Security, Compliance and Governance, carries 24% of scored content. AWS expects candidates to implement and maintain controls that meet security requirements, validate and audit those controls through monitoring and logging, and maintain confidentiality of network communications. This places security directly inside the networking role.
Security groups and network ACLs provide filtering at different layers, while AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Shield and inspection architectures address additional threat models. PrivateLink and VPC endpoints can reduce public exposure for service access. TLS and IPsec protect communications in different contexts. The exam can ask candidates to choose a design that preserves both required access and evidence for compliance, not merely the design with the most controls.
Multi-account governance adds another dimension. Centralized networking can simplify inspection and connectivity, but it also creates shared dependencies. Distributed models can improve autonomy but increase consistency challenges. Candidates should understand the blast-radius and operational implications of each model rather than treating centralization as automatically better.
AWS networking services must be treated as a toolkit
Production environments rarely depend on one networking service. Reviewing theAWS networking toolkit is useful because advanced scenarios combine VPC constructs with load balancers, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs, Route 53, CloudFront, Global Accelerator, PrivateLink, network security services and monitoring. The exam often rewards the smallest combination that satisfies all stated requirements.
Service limits and operational complexity matter too. Adding another transit layer, NAT path or inspection hop can solve one problem while increasing latency, cost or troubleshooting difficulty. Advanced candidates should be able to explain not only what a service enables but what new dependency it introduces.
Current mechanics and the retirement deadline shape preparation
ANS-C01 currently contains 65 multiple-choice or multiple-response questions and allows 170 minutes. AWS lists the exam at the Specialty level and notes the December 31, 2026 retirement date. The current guide weights the domains as Network Design 30%, Network Implementation 26%, Network Management and Operation 20%, and Network Security, Compliance and Governance 24%.
The retirement date changes preparation strategy. Candidates with strong networking and AWS experience may have enough time to close focused gaps and schedule before year-end. Candidates who are still learning basic routing, VPC concepts or hybrid networking should be realistic about whether rushing the specialty produces lasting skill. AWS states that no new Advanced Networking – Specialty certifications will be issued after retirement and directs learners to its ongoing networking training portfolio rather than promising an automatic successor exam.
Use architecture drills and failure scenarios to prepare
Build or diagram several recurring patterns: a multi-account hub-and-spoke network, hybrid connectivity with redundant paths, centralized inspection, private service access, cross-region connectivity and public applications with global traffic management. For each design, state the routes, DNS behavior, security boundaries, failure modes and monitoring evidence. Then change one requirement and see whether the architecture still holds.
Failure drills are equally valuable. Withdraw a route, break a resolver rule, misconfigure a security group, create an unhealthy target or alter a BGP advertisement. Trace the symptoms and use logs or metrics to identify the cause. These exercises mirror the exam’s real difficulty: many AWS networking services are easy to define, but complex environments require judgment about how they interact.
ANS-C01 remains a demanding and relevant networking assessment during its final exam window. Candidates who can reason from requirements to topology, implement the path, observe its behavior and secure it under change will be far better prepared than those who memorize isolated service descriptions.
