Question 780
The team addressed this problem: A company needs private access to many VPCs through one dedicated connection without individual VIF per VPC. Which observation BEST demonstrates the required result?
Packet-path validation confirms encrypted payloads across the required transport hop
Trace tests show the largest permitted packet traverses the overlay without blackholing
BGP route advertisements produce the documented active and backup path preference
Approved on-premises prefixes reach connected VPC routes without public internet hops
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Approved on-premises prefixes reach connected VPC routes without public internet hops. This directly tests whether the selected change, use a Direct Connect gateway and compatible Transit Gateway or virtual private gateway association design, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that direct Connect gateway enables supported private routing connectivity to eligible gateways. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that a public VIF is not equivalent to private connectivity for arbitrary VPC CIDRs.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Packet-path validation confirms encrypted payloads across the required transport hop might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company must encrypt sensitive hybrid application traffic even though it uses a private Direct Connect circuit. This question instead requires demonstrating that approved on-premises prefixes reach connected VPC routes without public internet hops. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
Trace tests show the largest permitted packet traverses the overlay without blackholing might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company has a 1 Gbps Direct Connect and sees packet drops only when sending oversized frames across a VPN overlay. This question instead requires demonstrating that approved on-premises prefixes reach connected VPC routes without public internet hops. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
BGP route advertisements produce the documented active and backup path preference might confirm another remediation, for instance when an enterprise wants routing priority between two BGP peers without changing every application subnet. This question instead requires demonstrating that approved on-premises prefixes reach connected VPC routes without public internet hops. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 781
An engineer selects the change "Compare NLB target group registration, health check listener and application port" because An NLB target is unhealthy while TCP traffic is delivered to a different instance by a manually configured DNS override. Which technical explanation BEST supports it?
Load-balancer health and client name resolution both affect which service receives packets
Network interface allocation can be limited by available subnet addresses and service quotas
Network path failures require examining each packet-filter and endpoint layer
Load balancer request distribution depends on backend health and lifecycle coordination
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Load-balancer health and client name resolution both affect which service receives packets. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, compare NLB target group registration, health check listener and application port, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, a green EC2 status check does not prove a target group's application probe passes. A suitable verification is that corrected target registration becomes healthy and client sessions reach the intended service.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Network interface allocation can be limited by available subnet addresses and service quotas explains a different case, for example when a subnet has enough addresses on paper but ECS tasks cannot create ENIs in one availability zone. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that load-balancer health and client name resolution both affect which service receives packets; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Network path failures require examining each packet-filter and endpoint layer explains a different case, for example when an EC2 instance drops UDP while TCP works and a team assumes the security group must be the only blocker. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that load-balancer health and client name resolution both affect which service receives packets; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Load balancer request distribution depends on backend health and lifecycle coordination explains a different case, for example when an internal ALB becomes slow only during an autoscaling event and new targets receive requests before initialization. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that load-balancer health and client name resolution both affect which service receives packets; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 782
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—A security analyst must inspect packet payload characteristics from supported EC2 network interfaces in a lab—which action should the engineer take?
Enable VPC Flow Logs at the required VPC, subnet, or ENI scope and protected destination
Use VPC Traffic Mirroring with a supported capture target and scoped filters
Use VPC Reachability Analyzer to examine the configuration path for the source and destination
Collect repeated synthetic measurements and link metrics across representative routes and times
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Use VPC Traffic Mirroring with a supported capture target and scoped filters. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because traffic Mirroring copies selected packet traffic instead of only summarized flow metadata. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that flow Logs alone cannot show the packet bytes required for this authorized analysis. Confirm the improvement by showing that a controlled packet reaches the collector with the expected headers and payload.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Enable VPC Flow Logs at the required VPC, subnet, or ENI scope and protected destination would address a different scenario, such as when a VPC networking team needs metadata about accepted and rejected connections for an incident baseline. The present issue requires use VPC Traffic Mirroring with a supported capture target and scoped filters because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Use VPC Reachability Analyzer to examine the configuration path for the source and destination would address a different scenario, such as when a network engineer wants automated proof that a security group and route table permit an intended VPC path. The present issue requires use VPC Traffic Mirroring with a supported capture target and scoped filters because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Collect repeated synthetic measurements and link metrics across representative routes and times would address a different scenario, such as when a business needs a defensible hybrid network baseline for latency, packet loss, and utilization before adding Direct Connect. The present issue requires use VPC Traffic Mirroring with a supported capture target and scoped filters because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 783
AWS architects plan to Choose Gateway Load Balancer with appliance targets and service insertion endpoints for this requirement: A fleet of virtual firewalls must receive traffic with flow symmetry and transparent appliance insertion. Which principle is MOST relevant?
TLS termination at a load balancer does not automatically encrypt every backend hop
TLS listener design determines which component possesses the private key and sees plaintext
Gateway Load Balancer uses GENEVE to distribute network flows to security appliance targets
Load balancer target health must test readiness rather than authentication-protected business pages
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Gateway Load Balancer uses GENEVE to distribute network flows to security appliance targets. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, choose Gateway Load Balancer with appliance targets and service insertion endpoints, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, a normal HTTP ALB is not a drop-in transparent inspection hop for arbitrary IP packets. A suitable verification is that bidirectional flow traces pass the intended inspection appliance without bypass.
Incorrect Answers
A:
TLS termination at a load balancer does not automatically encrypt every backend hop explains a different case, for example when an application uses an ALB with HTTPS listeners but must ensure encryption continues to backend instances. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that gateway Load Balancer uses GENEVE to distribute network flows to security appliance targets; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
TLS listener design determines which component possesses the private key and sees plaintext explains a different case, for example when a service must authenticate incoming HTTPS clients at a proxy without terminating encryption at the wrong tier. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that gateway Load Balancer uses GENEVE to distribute network flows to security appliance targets; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Load balancer target health must test readiness rather than authentication-protected business pages explains a different case, for example when a batch service runs healthy processes but fails ALB health checks because the probe path requires a user login. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that gateway Load Balancer uses GENEVE to distribute network flows to security appliance targets; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 784
An AWS network architect encounters this situation: An on-premises site sends traffic to AWS over VPN but the customer router rejects expected BGP adjacency. Which change BEST meets the documented requirement?
Validate dynamic routing preference and backup advertisements before fault injection
Configure both AWS-provided tunnels with monitored backup operation
Review IPsec security associations, protected networks, and return-route/filter policy
Check the customer gateway ASN, configured peer addresses and permitted TCP BGP sessions
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Check the customer gateway ASN, configured peer addresses and permitted TCP BGP sessions. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because bGP session establishment requires compatible ASN and network peer configuration. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that changing AWS security group rules does not repair a router-level ASN mismatch. Confirm the improvement by showing that both tunnel BGP peers reach Established and exchange approved prefixes.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Validate dynamic routing preference and backup advertisements before fault injection would address a different scenario, such as when the Direct Connect physical port is down but the application must automatically use an existing backup VPN. The present issue requires check the customer gateway ASN, configured peer addresses and permitted TCP BGP sessions because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Configure both AWS-provided tunnels with monitored backup operation would address a different scenario, such as when an enterprise provisions a VPN but only one of its provided tunnel endpoint configurations is deployed. The present issue requires check the customer gateway ASN, configured peer addresses and permitted TCP BGP sessions because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Review IPsec security associations, protected networks, and return-route/filter policy would address a different scenario, such as when an on-premises firewall permits IPSec negotiation but blocks encapsulated user traffic after tunnel setup. The present issue requires check the customer gateway ASN, configured peer addresses and permitted TCP BGP sessions because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 785
A network review finds: A WAF web ACL blocks some requests unexpectedly and the team only has total request counts. Which consequence MOST clearly explains the need for a fix?
An aggregate blocked-request graph cannot reveal the responsible request rule
CloudTrail management events do not contain TCP packet payload evidence
Permanent unreviewed exclusions can silently remove important workloads from policy
Collecting every record is insufficient if users can silently erase the logs
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
An aggregate blocked-request graph cannot reveal the responsible request rule. The missing control matters because wAF rule evaluation records can identify specific matching rules and terminating actions. The appropriate corrective action is to enable supported WAF logs or sampled requests with redaction of sensitive fields. To check the outcome, verify that a synthetic match produces the expected rule ID without logging sensitive secrets.
Incorrect Answers
B:
CloudTrail management events do not contain TCP packet payload evidence can be a real consequence when an internal review needs proof that the same TCP conversation was observed at an inspection point during a suspected incident. Here the relevant failure is that an aggregate blocked-request graph cannot reveal the responsible request rule. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Permanent unreviewed exclusions can silently remove important workloads from policy can be a real consequence when a regulated business uses Firewall Manager but resource exceptions have no owner or expiration date. Here the relevant failure is that an aggregate blocked-request graph cannot reveal the responsible request rule. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Collecting every record is insufficient if users can silently erase the logs can be a real consequence when an organization centralizes network logs but data analysts have permission to delete or alter evidence. Here the relevant failure is that an aggregate blocked-request graph cannot reveal the responsible request rule. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 786
What failure mode is MOST relevant if a team ignores this issue: A company wants central certificate issuance for internal application identities across private VPCs?
Skipping hostname checks permits an attacker-controlled certificate for a different service
A publicly trusted certificate authority is not a substitute for managing private trust needs
A leaked signing key could allow attackers to mint trusted internal identities
A valid certificate chain alone cannot establish identity if an attacker stole the private key
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
A publicly trusted certificate authority is not a substitute for managing private trust needs. The missing control matters because private PKI can issue internally trusted certificates when clients manage the trust chain. The appropriate corrective action is to use ACM Private CA or a governed private certificate authority with lifecycle automation. To check the outcome, verify that internal clients validate the expected CA chain and certificate renewal completes.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Skipping hostname checks permits an attacker-controlled certificate for a different service can be a real consequence when an API uses application TLS but accepts any certificate hostname for connections to a private upstream. Here the relevant failure is that a publicly trusted certificate authority is not a substitute for managing private trust needs. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
A leaked signing key could allow attackers to mint trusted internal identities can be a real consequence when an organization needs a private TLS certificate for service-to-service connections and considers embedding the CA private key in a container image. Here the relevant failure is that a publicly trusted certificate authority is not a substitute for managing private trust needs. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
A valid certificate chain alone cannot establish identity if an attacker stole the private key can be a real consequence when an internal service uses mutual TLS but its client certificates are copied into publicly accessible build artifacts. Here the relevant failure is that a publicly trusted certificate authority is not a substitute for managing private trust needs. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 787
A team chooses to Adopt supported BGP dynamic routing or explicitly maintain correct static failover logic after observing: A customer VPN uses static routing while the team expects automatic failover after network changes. Which result would BEST verify the change?
Traffic converges to the remaining gateway and the obsolete route disappears
Approved public endpoint traffic follows the expected Direct Connect public routing path
New approved AWS prefixes are learned or explicitly installed and test packets reach them
Route tables select the preferred link and revert on primary failure
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
New approved AWS prefixes are learned or explicitly installed and test packets reach them. This directly tests whether the selected change, adopt supported BGP dynamic routing or explicitly maintain correct static failover logic, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that static routes do not automatically learn newly announced AWS prefixes. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that assuming static VPN routing detects every remote CIDR change can blackhole traffic.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Traffic converges to the remaining gateway and the obsolete route disappears might confirm another remediation, for instance when a disaster recovery exercise shows VPN routes remain pinned to a removed data center after an appliance failure. This question instead requires demonstrating that new approved AWS prefixes are learned or explicitly installed and test packets reach them. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
Approved public endpoint traffic follows the expected Direct Connect public routing path might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company needs public AWS service API access across a Direct Connect public VIF but has not advertised eligible public prefixes. This question instead requires demonstrating that new approved AWS prefixes are learned or explicitly installed and test packets reach them. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
Route tables select the preferred link and revert on primary failure might confirm another remediation, for instance when a connection uses two Direct Connect links and business policy requires a preferred active path rather than equal splitting. This question instead requires demonstrating that new approved AWS prefixes are learned or explicitly installed and test packets reach them. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 788
A team faces this situation: A finance environment uses AWS Network Firewall but the rule group is set to log-only while policy requires blocking. It proposes: Set the supported firewall rule action and stateful inspection policy to enforce intended denial. What underlying networking principle BEST explains this decision?
Transit gateway attachment authorization is a governance boundary before route propagation
Layer-seven geographic filtering can be applied at supported web entry points
Centralized egress filtering is effective only when alternative unfiltered exits are removed
Detect-only visibility and packet blocking are different network-control outcomes
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Detect-only visibility and packet blocking are different network-control outcomes. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, set the supported firewall rule action and stateful inspection policy to enforce intended denial, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, a matching alert alone does not stop prohibited traffic from reaching its target. A suitable verification is that negative packets are dropped and a corresponding firewall alert is retained.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Transit gateway attachment authorization is a governance boundary before route propagation explains a different case, for example when a company wants to prevent untrusted VPCs from attaching to a central Transit Gateway automatically. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that detect-only visibility and packet blocking are different network-control outcomes; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
Layer-seven geographic filtering can be applied at supported web entry points explains a different case, for example when a production ALB must accept only approved client geographies under documented policy while retaining measured business exceptions. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that detect-only visibility and packet blocking are different network-control outcomes; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Centralized egress filtering is effective only when alternative unfiltered exits are removed explains a different case, for example when a company routes all outbound traffic through a transparent proxy but direct routes to the NAT gateway remain available. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that detect-only visibility and packet blocking are different network-control outcomes; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 789
A network review finds: A company wants security appliances in one inspection VPC but discovers spoke traffic can bypass the appliance. Which consequence MOST clearly explains the need for a fix?
Attaching a firewall VPC alone does not force other attachments to traverse it
Creating a NAT gateway in one VPC does not automatically serve remote VPCs
Hardcoding provider IP addresses bypasses endpoint lifecycle and can break replacement
Sharing the provider account's full route table is not needed for one selected service
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Attaching a firewall VPC alone does not force other attachments to traverse it. The missing control matters because centralized inspection requires deliberate forward-and-return routing through the same stateful middlebox path. The appropriate corrective action is to use Transit Gateway route tables and symmetric inspection routing with appliance-mode considerations. To check the outcome, verify that forward and return flow traces pass the firewall and remain symmetric.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Creating a NAT gateway in one VPC does not automatically serve remote VPCs can be a real consequence when a large AWS organization needs egress through centralized networking while preserving per-spoke isolation. Here the relevant failure is that attaching a firewall VPC alone does not force other attachments to traverse it. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Hardcoding provider IP addresses bypasses endpoint lifecycle and can break replacement can be a real consequence when an enterprise tries to make private endpoints in many accounts resolve consistently while preserving independent service accounts. Here the relevant failure is that attaching a firewall VPC alone does not force other attachments to traverse it. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Sharing the provider account's full route table is not needed for one selected service can be a real consequence when two accounts need to expose a service but organization policy forbids consumer access to provider route tables. Here the relevant failure is that attaching a firewall VPC alone does not force other attachments to traverse it. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 790
For the scenario "A large AWS organization needs egress through centralized networking while preserving per-spoke isolation", the proposed response is "Use routed egress VPC design with appropriate Transit Gateway attachment and NAT/firewall architecture". Which network behavior makes this suitable?
AWS RAM enables resource sharing without making the spoke account the transit resource owner
Central egress requires matching spoke default routes and return-path routes through approved shared services
Name resolution and service-level authorization must complement endpoint networking rather than imply full-network trust
PrivateLink separates provider service publishing from consumer network route administration
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Central egress requires matching spoke default routes and return-path routes through approved shared services. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, use routed egress VPC design with appropriate Transit Gateway attachment and NAT/firewall architecture, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, creating a NAT gateway in one VPC does not automatically serve remote VPCs. A suitable verification is that spoke internet-bound test traffic exits the selected egress path with correct return routing.
Incorrect Answers
A:
AWS RAM enables resource sharing without making the spoke account the transit resource owner explains a different case, for example when a central networking account owns a Transit Gateway, but a workload account cannot attach without approved sharing. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that central egress requires matching spoke default routes and return-path routes through approved shared services; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Name resolution and service-level authorization must complement endpoint networking rather than imply full-network trust explains a different case, for example when an enterprise tries to make private endpoints in many accounts resolve consistently while preserving independent service accounts. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that central egress requires matching spoke default routes and return-path routes through approved shared services; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
PrivateLink separates provider service publishing from consumer network route administration explains a different case, for example when two accounts need to expose a service but organization policy forbids consumer access to provider route tables. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that central egress requires matching spoke default routes and return-path routes through approved shared services; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.

AWS ANS-C01 Advanced Networking Specialty: Designing and Operating Complex Networks Before Retirement
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (ANS-C01) remains available in 2026, but it is a retiring certification.AWS states that December 31, 2026 is the last day to take the exam; certifications earned before retirement remain active for the standard three-year period. Candidates who plan to finish during the remaining window should verify scheduling early and prepare from the current exam guide rather than assuming the specialty will continue into 2027.
The exam is intended for networking specialists who design, implement, manage and secure AWS and hybrid network architectures at scale. AWS recommends about five years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing network solutions. That experience expectation is important: ANS-C01 is not a survey of VPC terminology. It asks candidates to combine routing, DNS, hybrid connectivity, multi-account design, edge services, automation, monitoring and security under real operational constraints. A focused overview ofAWS advanced networking can help frame how those topics interact, but the official domains should govern final preparation.
Network Design carries the largest share of the exam
The current ANS-C01 guide weights Network Design at 30% of scored content. The domain includes global edge services and traffic management, public and private DNS, load balancing, logging and monitoring requirements, hybrid routing, and connectivity across multiple accounts, Regions and VPCs. The common skill is architecture: selecting a pattern that meets availability, performance, security and operational requirements before implementation begins.
Advanced designs often have several technically valid options. A candidate may need to choose among Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Global Accelerator, CloudFront or load-balancing patterns based on requirements that are easy to overlook. Transitive routing, overlapping CIDR blocks, private service exposure, encryption, throughput, latency and administrative boundaries can change the right answer even when all choices provide “connectivity.”
This is whyAWS VPC should be understood as the foundation of a wider topology rather than the whole design. CIDR planning, subnet placement, route tables, gateways, endpoints and security controls determine the local behavior, but enterprise architectures then connect many VPCs, accounts and regions. Addressing decisions that look harmless in one VPC can become major constraints when networks need to merge later.
AWS networking specialists routinely connect cloud networks to data centers, branches and other environments. Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN and BGP are therefore central concepts. Candidates should know why multiple connections are used, how routing preferences influence the active path, what happens when a circuit fails, and how encryption requirements affect the design.
The mechanics ofIPsec site-to-site VPNs are especially relevant because a tunnel being “up” does not prove the end-to-end application path is correct. Route propagation, local and remote prefixes, security controls, MTU, NAT and asymmetric routing can all create failures. Strong troubleshooting begins by defining the expected path and then validating each dependency rather than rebuilding the tunnel immediately.
Direct Connect introduces additional design choices such as redundancy, virtual interfaces and interaction with VPN backup. Professional networking judgment means matching the level of resilience to the business requirement. Two connections that share a physical dependency do not provide the same protection as truly diverse paths, and a backup path that has never been tested may fail exactly when it is needed.
Network Implementation tests execution across accounts and regions
Network Implementation represents 26% of scored content. AWS explicitly includes routing and connectivity between on-premises networks and AWS, multi-account and multi-region patterns, complex hybrid DNS, and automation of network infrastructure. Candidates should therefore be able to move from an architecture diagram to concrete behavior: which routes propagate, where attachments belong, how DNS queries flow, and how configuration is created consistently.
Automation matters because large networks cannot be managed reliably through ad hoc console changes. Infrastructure as code, repeatable configuration and controlled deployment reduce drift and make review easier. The exam does not require every automation tool in the AWS portfolio, but candidates should understand why declarative, repeatable network changes are preferable to manual one-off edits in environments with many accounts and regions.
DNS and traffic management are resilience tools
DNS is more than mapping a name to an address. Route 53 routing policies, health checks, public and private hosted zones, resolvers and hybrid forwarding rules can determine where users and applications connect during normal operation and failure. A deeper look atRoute 53 and cloud DNS helps connect record design to availability, but exam questions may require reasoning about split-horizon namespaces, resolver endpoints, forwarding rules and the effect of TTLs on recovery.
Edge and traffic-management services also affect performance. CloudFront, Global Accelerator and Elastic Load Balancing solve different problems. The correct choice depends on protocol, caching needs, user geography, endpoint health, security controls and how traffic should enter the architecture. Candidates should avoid choosing a service simply because it sounds “global”; they should match the service behavior to the application requirement.
Management and Operations turns topology into a supportable service
Network Management and Operation accounts for 20% of scored content. This domain covers maintaining routing and connectivity, monitoring network health, troubleshooting performance and resolving complex connectivity problems. The operational challenge is that many failures produce similar symptoms. A user who cannot reach an application might be affected by DNS, routing, NACLs, security groups, endpoint policies, firewall inspection, load-balancer health, BGP advertisements or the application itself.
Good troubleshooting is evidence-based. Determine the expected source, destination and path. Check routing and name resolution. Verify security controls. Use logs and metrics to see whether traffic reaches each layer. Compare a failing flow with a known-good flow where possible. This approach is slower than guessing for the first minute and much faster than changing several network components without a hypothesis.
Observability should also be designed in advance. VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch metrics, load-balancer logs, Route 53 health information and other telemetry are more useful when teams know what question each source can answer. Logging everything without a retention, analysis or alerting plan can create cost without improving supportability.
Security, Compliance and Governance remain network responsibilities
The fourth domain, Network Security, Compliance and Governance, carries 24% of scored content. AWS expects candidates to implement and maintain controls that meet security requirements, validate and audit those controls through monitoring and logging, and maintain confidentiality of network communications. This places security directly inside the networking role.
Security groups and network ACLs provide filtering at different layers, while AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Shield and inspection architectures address additional threat models. PrivateLink and VPC endpoints can reduce public exposure for service access. TLS and IPsec protect communications in different contexts. The exam can ask candidates to choose a design that preserves both required access and evidence for compliance, not merely the design with the most controls.
Multi-account governance adds another dimension. Centralized networking can simplify inspection and connectivity, but it also creates shared dependencies. Distributed models can improve autonomy but increase consistency challenges. Candidates should understand the blast-radius and operational implications of each model rather than treating centralization as automatically better.
AWS networking services must be treated as a toolkit
Production environments rarely depend on one networking service. Reviewing theAWS networking toolkit is useful because advanced scenarios combine VPC constructs with load balancers, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs, Route 53, CloudFront, Global Accelerator, PrivateLink, network security services and monitoring. The exam often rewards the smallest combination that satisfies all stated requirements.
Service limits and operational complexity matter too. Adding another transit layer, NAT path or inspection hop can solve one problem while increasing latency, cost or troubleshooting difficulty. Advanced candidates should be able to explain not only what a service enables but what new dependency it introduces.
Current mechanics and the retirement deadline shape preparation
ANS-C01 currently contains 65 multiple-choice or multiple-response questions and allows 170 minutes. AWS lists the exam at the Specialty level and notes the December 31, 2026 retirement date. The current guide weights the domains as Network Design 30%, Network Implementation 26%, Network Management and Operation 20%, and Network Security, Compliance and Governance 24%.
The retirement date changes preparation strategy. Candidates with strong networking and AWS experience may have enough time to close focused gaps and schedule before year-end. Candidates who are still learning basic routing, VPC concepts or hybrid networking should be realistic about whether rushing the specialty produces lasting skill. AWS states that no new Advanced Networking – Specialty certifications will be issued after retirement and directs learners to its ongoing networking training portfolio rather than promising an automatic successor exam.
Use architecture drills and failure scenarios to prepare
Build or diagram several recurring patterns: a multi-account hub-and-spoke network, hybrid connectivity with redundant paths, centralized inspection, private service access, cross-region connectivity and public applications with global traffic management. For each design, state the routes, DNS behavior, security boundaries, failure modes and monitoring evidence. Then change one requirement and see whether the architecture still holds.
Failure drills are equally valuable. Withdraw a route, break a resolver rule, misconfigure a security group, create an unhealthy target or alter a BGP advertisement. Trace the symptoms and use logs or metrics to identify the cause. These exercises mirror the exam’s real difficulty: many AWS networking services are easy to define, but complex environments require judgment about how they interact.
ANS-C01 remains a demanding and relevant networking assessment during its final exam window. Candidates who can reason from requirements to topology, implement the path, observe its behavior and secure it under change will be far better prepared than those who memorize isolated service descriptions.

We don't say that these free VCEs sent by our members aren't reliable (experience shows that they are). But you should use your critical thinking as to what you download and memorize.
