Question 490
What failure mode is MOST relevant if a team ignores this issue: Two on-premises data centers require dedicated diverse private circuits to critical AWS Regions?
Operating only one tunnel sacrifices built-in redundancy during endpoint maintenance
Creating two VIFs on one router does not eliminate shared physical failure
Changing an instance security group cannot choose one WAN path over another
A generic Site-to-Site VPN connection does not provide the same managed GRE Connect pattern
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Creating two VIFs on one router does not eliminate shared physical failure. The missing control matters because direct Connect high availability depends on independent locations and devices, not merely two VLANs. The appropriate corrective action is to use physically diverse Direct Connect connections and redundancy designs meeting the resiliency target. To check the outcome, verify that a documented diverse-link failure test keeps the hybrid application reachable.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Operating only one tunnel sacrifices built-in redundancy during endpoint maintenance can be a real consequence when a company needs a redundant Site-to-Site VPN and both standard tunnels terminate on customer gateway devices. Here the relevant failure is that creating two VIFs on one router does not eliminate shared physical failure. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Changing an instance security group cannot choose one WAN path over another can be a real consequence when an enterprise wants routing priority between two BGP peers without changing every application subnet. Here the relevant failure is that creating two VIFs on one router does not eliminate shared physical failure. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
A generic Site-to-Site VPN connection does not provide the same managed GRE Connect pattern can be a real consequence when a distributed branch solution needs SD-WAN appliance integration with Transit Gateway using overlay tunnels. Here the relevant failure is that creating two VIFs on one router does not eliminate shared physical failure. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 491
AWS architects plan to Define CloudWatch metrics and baseline performance ranges with meaningful anomaly alarms for this requirement: A network operations dashboard shows an unusual traffic drop but there is no measure of pre-incident throughput. Which principle is MOST relevant?
Different AWS networking services emit different schemas that require a governed collection architecture
Transit flow logs can reveal attachment-level paths that application logs may not
Network anomaly interpretation relies on representative historical baselines
Continuous security governance requires auditable exceptions and predictable expiry
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Network anomaly interpretation relies on representative historical baselines. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, define CloudWatch metrics and baseline performance ranges with meaningful anomaly alarms, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, a single low-throughput data point without context can trigger false attribution. A suitable verification is that a synthetic degradation produces a meaningful alarm relative to baseline.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Different AWS networking services emit different schemas that require a governed collection architecture explains a different case, for example when a company needs to preserve compliance evidence from ALB, CloudFront, and Network Firewall in one protected location. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that network anomaly interpretation relies on representative historical baselines; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
Transit flow logs can reveal attachment-level paths that application logs may not explains a different case, for example when a company audits public ingress but does not inspect internal spoke-to-spoke traffic crossing a Transit Gateway. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that network anomaly interpretation relies on representative historical baselines; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Continuous security governance requires auditable exceptions and predictable expiry explains a different case, for example when a regulated business uses Firewall Manager but resource exceptions have no owner or expiration date. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that network anomaly interpretation relies on representative historical baselines; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 492
The team addressed this problem: A security team wants signed public DNS answers without falsely claiming that ordinary DNS transport is encrypted. Which observation BEST demonstrates the required result?
Representative workload VPCs resolve the corporate domain through the same approved chain
Queries from on premises return the intended private records without publishing them publicly
An EC2 DNS lookup of the corporate zone reaches the on-premises resolver successfully
Valid records verify with a validating resolver and tampered signatures are rejected
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Valid records verify with a validating resolver and tampered signatures are rejected. This directly tests whether the selected change, enable Route 53 DNSSEC signing and validate the delegation chain at the registrar, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that dNSSEC establishes authenticity and integrity of supported DNS data through a trust chain. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that dNSSEC does not encrypt resolver queries or provide application TLS authentication.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Representative workload VPCs resolve the corporate domain through the same approved chain might confirm another remediation, for instance when a private application needs one coherent DNS resolution path from many shared-network VPCs to corporate systems. This question instead requires demonstrating that valid records verify with a validating resolver and tampered signatures are rejected. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
Queries from on premises return the intended private records without publishing them publicly might confirm another remediation, for instance when an on-premises resolver cannot resolve a private Route 53 hosted zone associated with an application VPC. This question instead requires demonstrating that valid records verify with a validating resolver and tampered signatures are rejected. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
An EC2 DNS lookup of the corporate zone reaches the on-premises resolver successfully might confirm another remediation, for instance when a private EC2 workload must resolve legacy corporate names that only on-premises DNS hosts know. This question instead requires demonstrating that valid records verify with a validating resolver and tampered signatures are rejected. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 493
A networking team must correct the following AWS condition: A network operations dashboard shows an unusual traffic drop but there is no measure of pre-incident throughput. What is the MOST appropriate response?
Define CloudWatch metrics and baseline performance ranges with meaningful anomaly alarms
Restrict write/delete access and apply appropriate storage retention or immutability controls
Enable Transit Gateway flow logging with the appropriate attachments and retention
Enable suitable AWS Config recording and network-related compliance evaluations
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Define CloudWatch metrics and baseline performance ranges with meaningful anomaly alarms. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because network anomaly interpretation relies on representative historical baselines. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that a single low-throughput data point without context can trigger false attribution. Confirm the improvement by showing that a synthetic degradation produces a meaningful alarm relative to baseline.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Restrict write/delete access and apply appropriate storage retention or immutability controls would address a different scenario, such as when an organization centralizes network logs but data analysts have permission to delete or alter evidence. The present issue requires define CloudWatch metrics and baseline performance ranges with meaningful anomaly alarms because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Enable Transit Gateway flow logging with the appropriate attachments and retention would address a different scenario, such as when a company audits public ingress but does not inspect internal spoke-to-spoke traffic crossing a Transit Gateway. The present issue requires define CloudWatch metrics and baseline performance ranges with meaningful anomaly alarms because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Enable suitable AWS Config recording and network-related compliance evaluations would address a different scenario, such as when an auditor asks for evidence that prohibited network routes are detected if changed outside IaC. The present issue requires define CloudWatch metrics and baseline performance ranges with meaningful anomaly alarms because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 494
For the scenario "A central engineering team deploys identical network stacks into many AWS accounts and Regions", the proposed response is "Use CloudFormation StackSets or an equivalent governed multi-account delivery mechanism". Which network behavior makes this suitable?
IaC templates should resolve environment-specific identifiers rather than assuming global IDs
Organization-scale infrastructure delivery needs account and Region targeting with coordinated drift handling
Event-driven automation can apply predefined network containment when supported events occur
Tags support inventory, ownership and governance but require policy enforcement for consistency
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Organization-scale infrastructure delivery needs account and Region targeting with coordinated drift handling. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, use CloudFormation StackSets or an equivalent governed multi-account delivery mechanism, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, running one script with a hardcoded account credential increases operational and audit risk. A suitable verification is that target accounts receive intended resource versions and exceptions are visible.
Incorrect Answers
A:
IaC templates should resolve environment-specific identifiers rather than assuming global IDs explains a different case, for example when a multi-account transit network uses fixed VPC IDs in scripts and deployment to new accounts fails. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that organization-scale infrastructure delivery needs account and Region targeting with coordinated drift handling; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Event-driven automation can apply predefined network containment when supported events occur explains a different case, for example when an application subnet must be isolated automatically whenever a security event tags it as compromised. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that organization-scale infrastructure delivery needs account and Region targeting with coordinated drift handling; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Tags support inventory, ownership and governance but require policy enforcement for consistency explains a different case, for example when a network organization wants consistent subnet and Transit Gateway attachment tagging across all business accounts. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that organization-scale infrastructure delivery needs account and Region targeting with coordinated drift handling; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 495
During an AWS network design review, the team observes: An application gets uneven cross-zone target usage after load balancer cross-zone settings were changed. Which solution BEST resolves the gap?
Plan appropriate pod-IP allocation, secondary CIDR resources and supported VPC CNI configuration
Select a compatible end-to-end MTU and MSS policy after testing each hop
Assess cross-zone behavior, zonal target health and any associated data-transfer charges
Cache eligible objects at CloudFront edge locations to reduce repeated regional egress
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Assess cross-zone behavior, zonal target health and any associated data-transfer charges. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because load balancer routing options can alter zonal distribution and cost characteristics. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that assuming cross-zone traffic is free for every load balancer type can distort budgets. Confirm the improvement by showing that target distribution and measured cost match the approved zone-routing design.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Plan appropriate pod-IP allocation, secondary CIDR resources and supported VPC CNI configuration would address a different scenario, such as when a shared VPC runs out of available ENIs and VPC addresses as its EKS worker fleet scales. The present issue requires assess cross-zone behavior, zonal target health and any associated data-transfer charges because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Select a compatible end-to-end MTU and MSS policy after testing each hop would address a different scenario, such as when a client sends very large packets through a network path containing VPC, VPN and an on-premises firewall with different MTUs. The present issue requires assess cross-zone behavior, zonal target health and any associated data-transfer charges because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Cache eligible objects at CloudFront edge locations to reduce repeated regional egress would address a different scenario, such as when a company transfers the same static downloads repeatedly between remote users and one AWS Region. The present issue requires assess cross-zone behavior, zonal target health and any associated data-transfer charges because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 496
An AWS network architect encounters this situation: An application sees packet loss after changing a VPN's customer equipment but AWS tunnel metrics show Up. Which change BEST meets the documented requirement?
Compare edge CDN and Global Accelerator routing telemetry with regional network baselines
Compare NLB target group registration, health check listener and application port
Combine AWS data-transfer cost records with flow logs and tagged architecture mapping
Collect network path packet loss and retransmission metrics from both VPN endpoints
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Collect network path packet loss and retransmission metrics from both VPN endpoints. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because tunnel status indicates control connectivity but may conceal application-plane impairment. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that a green VPN tunnel metric alone cannot rule out MTU or device performance issues. Confirm the improvement by showing that bidirectional loss and packet-size measurements identify the faulty network segment.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Compare edge CDN and Global Accelerator routing telemetry with regional network baselines would address a different scenario, such as when an API response is slow only for overseas users despite healthy compute and regional ALB metrics. The present issue requires collect network path packet loss and retransmission metrics from both VPN endpoints because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Compare NLB target group registration, health check listener and application port would address a different scenario, such as when an NLB target is unhealthy while TCP traffic is delivered to a different instance by a manually configured DNS override. The present issue requires collect network path packet loss and retransmission metrics from both VPN endpoints because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Combine AWS data-transfer cost records with flow logs and tagged architecture mapping would address a different scenario, such as when an engineering group wants to attribute inter-region data transfer growth to one service and routing path. The present issue requires collect network path packet loss and retransmission metrics from both VPN endpoints because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 497
An engineer selects the change "Configure both AWS-provided tunnels with monitored backup operation" because An enterprise provisions a VPN but only one of its provided tunnel endpoint configurations is deployed. Which technical explanation BEST supports it?
Hybrid failover depends on BGP route convergence and an independent alternative path
Inter-region and hybrid transit require explicit supported route tables and gateway associations
Public VIF reachability has its own route advertisement requirements separate from VPC private routing
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Site-to-Site VPN provides independent tunnel endpoints to reduce endpoint-specific outage impact. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, configure both AWS-provided tunnels with monitored backup operation, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, a single configured tunnel loses the redundancy offered by the service. A suitable verification is that both tunnels establish and one continues traffic during a planned tunnel shutdown.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Hybrid failover depends on BGP route convergence and an independent alternative path explains a different case, for example when the Direct Connect physical port is down but the application must automatically use an existing backup VPN. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that site-to-Site VPN provides independent tunnel endpoints to reduce endpoint-specific outage impact; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Inter-region and hybrid transit require explicit supported route tables and gateway associations explains a different case, for example when a hybrid architecture must route between a branch and two AWS Regions while keeping transit resources centrally owned. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that site-to-Site VPN provides independent tunnel endpoints to reduce endpoint-specific outage impact; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Public VIF reachability has its own route advertisement requirements separate from VPC private routing explains a different case, for example when a company needs public AWS service API access across a Direct Connect public VIF but has not advertised eligible public prefixes. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that site-to-Site VPN provides independent tunnel endpoints to reduce endpoint-specific outage impact; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 498
What failure mode is MOST relevant if a team ignores this issue: A network pipeline requires assurance that a proposed security group modification will not break known dependencies?
A dashboard with no active alerting permits known route drift to persist
A syntactically valid template does not guarantee the desired application packet path
Repeated manual tunnel settings may create incompatible or weak cryptographic policies
Copying a raw VPC ID across accounts creates nonexistent or wrong-target references
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
A syntactically valid template does not guarantee the desired application packet path. The missing control matters because change plans and reachability analysis provide complementary evidence before applying routes and rules. The appropriate corrective action is to run IaC change previews plus reachability tests against critical packet paths. To check the outcome, verify that a denied path change is caught in preview or pre-production reachability validation.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A dashboard with no active alerting permits known route drift to persist can be a real consequence when an AWS Config rule finds unauthorized changes in VPC route tables but nobody learns about them until audit time. Here the relevant failure is that a syntactically valid template does not guarantee the desired application packet path. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Repeated manual tunnel settings may create incompatible or weak cryptographic policies can be a real consequence when a company wants a standard encrypted hybrid network across Regions but each stack manually selects a different VPN policy. Here the relevant failure is that a syntactically valid template does not guarantee the desired application packet path. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Copying a raw VPC ID across accounts creates nonexistent or wrong-target references can be a real consequence when a multi-account transit network uses fixed VPC IDs in scripts and deployment to new accounts fails. Here the relevant failure is that a syntactically valid template does not guarantee the desired application packet path. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 499
During an AWS network design review, the team observes: A regional edge application needs a custom allowlist for administrative URLs but the rule is attached only to an internal firewall. Which solution BEST resolves the gap?
Use AWS Config evaluations or Firewall Manager policies with scoped alerting and remediation
Remove direct internet routing and preserve only documented private or controlled egress paths
Place the relevant HTTP path restrictions in a WAF web ACL on the public entry point
Use a least-privilege stateful security group with the exact required source and port
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Place the relevant HTTP path restrictions in a WAF web ACL on the public entry point. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because application-layer URL controls must be enforced where the HTTP request is inspected. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that network-layer CIDR filtering alone cannot distinguish administrative paths on the same address. Confirm the improvement by showing that privileged URL requests are denied to untrusted clients and normal paths work.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Use AWS Config evaluations or Firewall Manager policies with scoped alerting and remediation would address a different scenario, such as when an organization wants automated discovery of broad SSH security-group rules across its accounts. The present issue requires place the relevant HTTP path restrictions in a WAF web ACL on the public entry point because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Remove direct internet routing and preserve only documented private or controlled egress paths would address a different scenario, such as when a security architect discovers an internet gateway route on a workload subnet that should be isolated from the public internet. The present issue requires place the relevant HTTP path restrictions in a WAF web ACL on the public entry point because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Use a least-privilege stateful security group with the exact required source and port would address a different scenario, such as when an EC2-based application needs inbound HTTPS from a trusted proxy but no public SSH connections. The present issue requires place the relevant HTTP path restrictions in a WAF web ACL on the public entry point because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 500
A team faces this situation: A company uses a Transit Gateway Connect attachment to carry SD-WAN routes but the overlay peer is not Established. It proposes: Correct GRE tunnel parameters, BGP session details, and Connect peer routing. What underlying networking principle BEST explains this decision?
Physical failure-domain diversity matters more than the number of BGP sessions on one circuit
A successful IKE negotiation is not proof that permitted data-plane flows traverse the tunnel
IPsec overhead reduces effective packet payload size along the hybrid path
Transit Gateway Connect combines the supported GRE overlay with BGP route exchange
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Transit Gateway Connect combines the supported GRE overlay with BGP route exchange. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, correct GRE tunnel parameters, BGP session details, and Connect peer routing, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, a working underlay alone does not establish overlay routing for branch prefixes. A suitable verification is that bGP becomes Established across the Connect peer and selected routes are reachable.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Physical failure-domain diversity matters more than the number of BGP sessions on one circuit explains a different case, for example when a company wants a redundant connection but its two hosted Direct Connect links terminate in the same colocation facility. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that transit Gateway Connect combines the supported GRE overlay with BGP route exchange; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
A successful IKE negotiation is not proof that permitted data-plane flows traverse the tunnel explains a different case, for example when an on-premises firewall permits IPSec negotiation but blocks encapsulated user traffic after tunnel setup. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that transit Gateway Connect combines the supported GRE overlay with BGP route exchange; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
IPsec overhead reduces effective packet payload size along the hybrid path explains a different case, for example when a cloud-hosted service is reachable over VPN but larger TLS messages time out despite small pings succeeding. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that transit Gateway Connect combines the supported GRE overlay with BGP route exchange; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.

AWS ANS-C01 Advanced Networking Specialty: Designing and Operating Complex Networks Before Retirement
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (ANS-C01) remains available in 2026, but it is a retiring certification.AWS states that December 31, 2026 is the last day to take the exam; certifications earned before retirement remain active for the standard three-year period. Candidates who plan to finish during the remaining window should verify scheduling early and prepare from the current exam guide rather than assuming the specialty will continue into 2027.
The exam is intended for networking specialists who design, implement, manage and secure AWS and hybrid network architectures at scale. AWS recommends about five years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing network solutions. That experience expectation is important: ANS-C01 is not a survey of VPC terminology. It asks candidates to combine routing, DNS, hybrid connectivity, multi-account design, edge services, automation, monitoring and security under real operational constraints. A focused overview ofAWS advanced networking can help frame how those topics interact, but the official domains should govern final preparation.
Network Design carries the largest share of the exam
The current ANS-C01 guide weights Network Design at 30% of scored content. The domain includes global edge services and traffic management, public and private DNS, load balancing, logging and monitoring requirements, hybrid routing, and connectivity across multiple accounts, Regions and VPCs. The common skill is architecture: selecting a pattern that meets availability, performance, security and operational requirements before implementation begins.
Advanced designs often have several technically valid options. A candidate may need to choose among Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Global Accelerator, CloudFront or load-balancing patterns based on requirements that are easy to overlook. Transitive routing, overlapping CIDR blocks, private service exposure, encryption, throughput, latency and administrative boundaries can change the right answer even when all choices provide “connectivity.”
This is whyAWS VPC should be understood as the foundation of a wider topology rather than the whole design. CIDR planning, subnet placement, route tables, gateways, endpoints and security controls determine the local behavior, but enterprise architectures then connect many VPCs, accounts and regions. Addressing decisions that look harmless in one VPC can become major constraints when networks need to merge later.
AWS networking specialists routinely connect cloud networks to data centers, branches and other environments. Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN and BGP are therefore central concepts. Candidates should know why multiple connections are used, how routing preferences influence the active path, what happens when a circuit fails, and how encryption requirements affect the design.
The mechanics ofIPsec site-to-site VPNs are especially relevant because a tunnel being “up” does not prove the end-to-end application path is correct. Route propagation, local and remote prefixes, security controls, MTU, NAT and asymmetric routing can all create failures. Strong troubleshooting begins by defining the expected path and then validating each dependency rather than rebuilding the tunnel immediately.
Direct Connect introduces additional design choices such as redundancy, virtual interfaces and interaction with VPN backup. Professional networking judgment means matching the level of resilience to the business requirement. Two connections that share a physical dependency do not provide the same protection as truly diverse paths, and a backup path that has never been tested may fail exactly when it is needed.
Network Implementation tests execution across accounts and regions
Network Implementation represents 26% of scored content. AWS explicitly includes routing and connectivity between on-premises networks and AWS, multi-account and multi-region patterns, complex hybrid DNS, and automation of network infrastructure. Candidates should therefore be able to move from an architecture diagram to concrete behavior: which routes propagate, where attachments belong, how DNS queries flow, and how configuration is created consistently.
Automation matters because large networks cannot be managed reliably through ad hoc console changes. Infrastructure as code, repeatable configuration and controlled deployment reduce drift and make review easier. The exam does not require every automation tool in the AWS portfolio, but candidates should understand why declarative, repeatable network changes are preferable to manual one-off edits in environments with many accounts and regions.
DNS and traffic management are resilience tools
DNS is more than mapping a name to an address. Route 53 routing policies, health checks, public and private hosted zones, resolvers and hybrid forwarding rules can determine where users and applications connect during normal operation and failure. A deeper look atRoute 53 and cloud DNS helps connect record design to availability, but exam questions may require reasoning about split-horizon namespaces, resolver endpoints, forwarding rules and the effect of TTLs on recovery.
Edge and traffic-management services also affect performance. CloudFront, Global Accelerator and Elastic Load Balancing solve different problems. The correct choice depends on protocol, caching needs, user geography, endpoint health, security controls and how traffic should enter the architecture. Candidates should avoid choosing a service simply because it sounds “global”; they should match the service behavior to the application requirement.
Management and Operations turns topology into a supportable service
Network Management and Operation accounts for 20% of scored content. This domain covers maintaining routing and connectivity, monitoring network health, troubleshooting performance and resolving complex connectivity problems. The operational challenge is that many failures produce similar symptoms. A user who cannot reach an application might be affected by DNS, routing, NACLs, security groups, endpoint policies, firewall inspection, load-balancer health, BGP advertisements or the application itself.
Good troubleshooting is evidence-based. Determine the expected source, destination and path. Check routing and name resolution. Verify security controls. Use logs and metrics to see whether traffic reaches each layer. Compare a failing flow with a known-good flow where possible. This approach is slower than guessing for the first minute and much faster than changing several network components without a hypothesis.
Observability should also be designed in advance. VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch metrics, load-balancer logs, Route 53 health information and other telemetry are more useful when teams know what question each source can answer. Logging everything without a retention, analysis or alerting plan can create cost without improving supportability.
Security, Compliance and Governance remain network responsibilities
The fourth domain, Network Security, Compliance and Governance, carries 24% of scored content. AWS expects candidates to implement and maintain controls that meet security requirements, validate and audit those controls through monitoring and logging, and maintain confidentiality of network communications. This places security directly inside the networking role.
Security groups and network ACLs provide filtering at different layers, while AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Shield and inspection architectures address additional threat models. PrivateLink and VPC endpoints can reduce public exposure for service access. TLS and IPsec protect communications in different contexts. The exam can ask candidates to choose a design that preserves both required access and evidence for compliance, not merely the design with the most controls.
Multi-account governance adds another dimension. Centralized networking can simplify inspection and connectivity, but it also creates shared dependencies. Distributed models can improve autonomy but increase consistency challenges. Candidates should understand the blast-radius and operational implications of each model rather than treating centralization as automatically better.
AWS networking services must be treated as a toolkit
Production environments rarely depend on one networking service. Reviewing theAWS networking toolkit is useful because advanced scenarios combine VPC constructs with load balancers, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs, Route 53, CloudFront, Global Accelerator, PrivateLink, network security services and monitoring. The exam often rewards the smallest combination that satisfies all stated requirements.
Service limits and operational complexity matter too. Adding another transit layer, NAT path or inspection hop can solve one problem while increasing latency, cost or troubleshooting difficulty. Advanced candidates should be able to explain not only what a service enables but what new dependency it introduces.
Current mechanics and the retirement deadline shape preparation
ANS-C01 currently contains 65 multiple-choice or multiple-response questions and allows 170 minutes. AWS lists the exam at the Specialty level and notes the December 31, 2026 retirement date. The current guide weights the domains as Network Design 30%, Network Implementation 26%, Network Management and Operation 20%, and Network Security, Compliance and Governance 24%.
The retirement date changes preparation strategy. Candidates with strong networking and AWS experience may have enough time to close focused gaps and schedule before year-end. Candidates who are still learning basic routing, VPC concepts or hybrid networking should be realistic about whether rushing the specialty produces lasting skill. AWS states that no new Advanced Networking – Specialty certifications will be issued after retirement and directs learners to its ongoing networking training portfolio rather than promising an automatic successor exam.
Use architecture drills and failure scenarios to prepare
Build or diagram several recurring patterns: a multi-account hub-and-spoke network, hybrid connectivity with redundant paths, centralized inspection, private service access, cross-region connectivity and public applications with global traffic management. For each design, state the routes, DNS behavior, security boundaries, failure modes and monitoring evidence. Then change one requirement and see whether the architecture still holds.
Failure drills are equally valuable. Withdraw a route, break a resolver rule, misconfigure a security group, create an unhealthy target or alter a BGP advertisement. Trace the symptoms and use logs or metrics to identify the cause. These exercises mirror the exam’s real difficulty: many AWS networking services are easy to define, but complex environments require judgment about how they interact.
ANS-C01 remains a demanding and relevant networking assessment during its final exam window. Candidates who can reason from requirements to topology, implement the path, observe its behavior and secure it under change will be far better prepared than those who memorize isolated service descriptions.

We don't say that these free VCEs sent by our members aren't reliable (experience shows that they are). But you should use your critical thinking as to what you download and memorize.
