AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty ANS-C01 Practice Test 28
Question 270
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—Two on-premises data centers require dedicated diverse private circuits to critical AWS Regions—which action should the engineer take?
Verify received and advertised BGP routes, filters, and expected ASN relationships
Use physically diverse Direct Connect connections and redundancy designs meeting the resiliency target
Use a Direct Connect public virtual interface when the public-service routing requirements fit
Plan consistent end-to-end MTU and MSS handling across tunnel encapsulation
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Use physically diverse Direct Connect connections and redundancy designs meeting the resiliency target. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because direct Connect high availability depends on independent locations and devices, not merely two VLANs. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that creating two VIFs on one router does not eliminate shared physical failure. Confirm the improvement by showing that a documented diverse-link failure test keeps the hybrid application reachable.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Verify received and advertised BGP routes, filters, and expected ASN relationships would address a different scenario, such as when an on-premises router cannot reach AWS advertised networks because its peer omits required customer prefixes. The present issue requires use physically diverse Direct Connect connections and redundancy designs meeting the resiliency target because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Use a Direct Connect public virtual interface when the public-service routing requirements fit would address a different scenario, such as when a corporate office needs AWS public service endpoints over a dedicated public routing path without private VPC address exchange. The present issue requires use physically diverse Direct Connect connections and redundancy designs meeting the resiliency target because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Plan consistent end-to-end MTU and MSS handling across tunnel encapsulation would address a different scenario, such as when a company has a 1 Gbps Direct Connect and sees packet drops only when sending oversized frames across a VPN overlay. The present issue requires use physically diverse Direct Connect connections and redundancy designs meeting the resiliency target because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 271
AWS architects plan to Orchestrate approved device APIs and AWS API updates with explicit order and rollback stages for this requirement: A branch network device change must synchronize with AWS TGW changes but vendor configuration is committed separately. Which principle is MOST relevant?
Least-privilege automation credentials reduce blast radius of a compromised pipeline
Event-driven automation can apply predefined network containment when supported events occur
Hybrid automation spans both cloud constructs and external network devices with independent failure modes
Reusable IaC modules standardize configurations and enable controlled regional exceptions
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Hybrid automation spans both cloud constructs and external network devices with independent failure modes. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, orchestrate approved device APIs and AWS API updates with explicit order and rollback stages, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, updating only AWS static routes can strand a branch whose router never changed. A suitable verification is that the coordinated change records both sides and a rollback restores the tested original path.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Least-privilege automation credentials reduce blast radius of a compromised pipeline explains a different case, for example when a deployment job has broad administrator rights just to create one VPC endpoint and associated route entries. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that hybrid automation spans both cloud constructs and external network devices with independent failure modes; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
Event-driven automation can apply predefined network containment when supported events occur explains a different case, for example when an application subnet must be isolated automatically whenever a security event tags it as compromised. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that hybrid automation spans both cloud constructs and external network devices with independent failure modes; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Reusable IaC modules standardize configurations and enable controlled regional exceptions explains a different case, for example when a company wants a standard encrypted hybrid network across Regions but each stack manually selects a different VPN policy. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that hybrid automation spans both cloud constructs and external network devices with independent failure modes; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 272
An AWS network architect encounters this situation: A Transit Gateway attachment is healthy but the production spoke suddenly uses the test network as a next hop. Which change BEST meets the documented requirement?
Add the new subnet CIDR routes on both regional transit tables and VPC route tables
Map subnet default routes and migrate to the approved centralized egress next hop
Check endpoint DNS resolution, supported security groups, network ACLs and service authorization
Review attachment route-table association, propagations and more-specific routes
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Review attachment route-table association, propagations and more-specific routes. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because transit Gateway route table selection governs which next hop receives each destination prefix. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that an unintended more-specific route can divert only one application subnet. Confirm the improvement by showing that a route inspection shows production prefixes on the approved gateway attachment.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Add the new subnet CIDR routes on both regional transit tables and VPC route tables would address a different scenario, such as when a cross-region Transit Gateway peer shows up but a newly added subnet cannot reach remote service. The present issue requires review attachment route-table association, propagations and more-specific routes because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Map subnet default routes and migrate to the approved centralized egress next hop would address a different scenario, such as when a company retires a public NAT egress path but monitoring shows applications still using it. The present issue requires review attachment route-table association, propagations and more-specific routes because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Check endpoint DNS resolution, supported security groups, network ACLs and service authorization would address a different scenario, such as when an interface endpoint has healthy ENIs but an application reports timeout to the service hostname. The present issue requires review attachment route-table association, propagations and more-specific routes because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 273
For this networking situation, An internal service uses mutual TLS but its client certificates are copied into publicly accessible build artifacts, the team applies "Move private keys to secure managed storage and use controlled certificate distribution". Which validation is strongest?
New client keys are issued securely and the exposed credentials are revoked
A controlled capture shows protected encrypted traffic over the designated circuit
Certificate tests establish the intended terminating component and protected payload
The application rejects an invalid database certificate and accepts a trusted one
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
New client keys are issued securely and the exposed credentials are revoked. This directly tests whether the selected change, move private keys to secure managed storage and use controlled certificate distribution, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that mutual TLS authentication is undermined when certificate private keys are exposed. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that a valid certificate chain alone cannot establish identity if an attacker stole the private key.
Incorrect Answers
B:
A controlled capture shows protected encrypted traffic over the designated circuit might confirm another remediation, for instance when a financial firm uses Direct Connect for regulated traffic but needs cryptographic protection while crossing the private circuit. This question instead requires demonstrating that new client keys are issued securely and the exposed credentials are revoked. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
Certificate tests establish the intended terminating component and protected payload might confirm another remediation, for instance when a custom TCP service requires encrypted transport without exposing keys at the wrong layer. This question instead requires demonstrating that new client keys are issued securely and the exposed credentials are revoked. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
The application rejects an invalid database certificate and accepts a trusted one might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company uses encrypted RDS connections but EC2 applications do not validate the RDS server certificate. This question instead requires demonstrating that new client keys are issued securely and the exposed credentials are revoked. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 274
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—An on-premises route is summarized too broadly and overlaps multiple cloud address ranges—which action should the engineer take?
Consider Transit Gateway Connect with compatible GRE and BGP overlay capabilities
Design nonoverlapping CIDRs and precise advertised prefixes across hybrid BGP boundaries
Run supported IPsec VPN over Direct Connect or encrypt application traffic end to end
Use a Direct Connect gateway and compatible Transit Gateway or virtual private gateway association design
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Design nonoverlapping CIDRs and precise advertised prefixes across hybrid BGP boundaries. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because prefix overlap and route preference can silently divert traffic to unintended networks. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that summarization without address governance can make distinct workloads unreachable. Confirm the improvement by showing that routes for test prefixes converge to the intended AWS and local destinations.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Consider Transit Gateway Connect with compatible GRE and BGP overlay capabilities would address a different scenario, such as when a distributed branch solution needs SD-WAN appliance integration with Transit Gateway using overlay tunnels. The present issue requires design nonoverlapping CIDRs and precise advertised prefixes across hybrid BGP boundaries because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Run supported IPsec VPN over Direct Connect or encrypt application traffic end to end would address a different scenario, such as when a company must encrypt sensitive hybrid application traffic even though it uses a private Direct Connect circuit. The present issue requires design nonoverlapping CIDRs and precise advertised prefixes across hybrid BGP boundaries because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Use a Direct Connect gateway and compatible Transit Gateway or virtual private gateway association design would address a different scenario, such as when a company needs private access to many VPCs through one dedicated connection without individual VIF per VPC. The present issue requires design nonoverlapping CIDRs and precise advertised prefixes across hybrid BGP boundaries because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 275
AWS architects plan to Connect compliance findings to monitored EventBridge events and appropriate remediation workflow for this requirement: An AWS Config rule finds unauthorized changes in VPC route tables but nobody learns about them until audit time. Which principle is MOST relevant?
Tags support inventory, ownership and governance but require policy enforcement for consistency
Network resources are often provisioned asynchronously and require status validation
Compliance evaluation should drive timely notification or controlled auto-remediation
Organization-scale infrastructure delivery needs account and Region targeting with coordinated drift handling
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Compliance evaluation should drive timely notification or controlled auto-remediation. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, connect compliance findings to monitored EventBridge events and appropriate remediation workflow, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, a dashboard with no active alerting permits known route drift to persist. A suitable verification is that a test route violation generates an incident and follows the approved correction path.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Tags support inventory, ownership and governance but require policy enforcement for consistency explains a different case, for example when a network organization wants consistent subnet and Transit Gateway attachment tagging across all business accounts. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that compliance evaluation should drive timely notification or controlled auto-remediation; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
Network resources are often provisioned asynchronously and require status validation explains a different case, for example when an infrastructure pipeline creates an interface VPC endpoint then outputs the endpoint ID before it is available. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that compliance evaluation should drive timely notification or controlled auto-remediation; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Organization-scale infrastructure delivery needs account and Region targeting with coordinated drift handling explains a different case, for example when a central engineering team deploys identical network stacks into many AWS accounts and Regions. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that compliance evaluation should drive timely notification or controlled auto-remediation; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 276
An AWS network architect encounters this situation: A global HTTP API has regional users with highly variable internet route quality and cannot tolerate long path detours. Which change BEST meets the documented requirement?
Select the appropriate hosted or dedicated Direct Connect capacity and redundancy based on measured demand
Evaluate centralized egress against resilience, traffic, routing, and data-processing costs
Review Transit Gateway multicast capabilities and appropriate instance or attachment constraints
Evaluate Global Accelerator endpoints for an appropriate supported workload
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Evaluate Global Accelerator endpoints for an appropriate supported workload. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because global Accelerator can route supported traffic over AWS global network from an anycast entry point. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that a change in DNS TTL alone does not fix every suboptimal internet transit path. Confirm the improvement by showing that regional synthetic probes show improved latency and stable endpoint addresses.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Select the appropriate hosted or dedicated Direct Connect capacity and redundancy based on measured demand would address a different scenario, such as when an on-premises network sends small transactions over dedicated connectivity but a plan proposes a high-capacity redundant DX LAG. The present issue requires evaluate Global Accelerator endpoints for an appropriate supported workload because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Evaluate centralized egress against resilience, traffic, routing, and data-processing costs would address a different scenario, such as when a multi-account organization pays for duplicated NAT gateways in every tiny development VPC. The present issue requires evaluate Global Accelerator endpoints for an appropriate supported workload because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Review Transit Gateway multicast capabilities and appropriate instance or attachment constraints would address a different scenario, such as when a company wants to receive multicast from on premises into AWS applications but its current peering design lacks required support. The present issue requires evaluate Global Accelerator endpoints for an appropriate supported workload because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 277
An engineer selects the change "Share the gateway using AWS RAM and enforce attachment acceptance and organization policy" because A central networking account owns a Transit Gateway, but a workload account cannot attach without approved sharing. Which technical explanation BEST supports it?
AWS RAM enables resource sharing without making the spoke account the transit resource owner
Transit Gateway acts as a transit hub with policy-defined route reachability between VPC attachments
Centralized inspection requires deliberate forward-and-return routing through the same stateful middlebox path
Shared VPCs centralize subnet administration while participants retain ownership of their supported resources
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
AWS RAM enables resource sharing without making the spoke account the transit resource owner. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, share the gateway using AWS RAM and enforce attachment acceptance and organization policy, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, copying the Transit Gateway ID alone does not grant the account attachment permission. A suitable verification is that the approved attachment becomes available under the intended central control policy.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Transit Gateway acts as a transit hub with policy-defined route reachability between VPC attachments explains a different case, for example when a group has dozens of VPCs requiring selective hub-and-spoke reachability rather than hundreds of peering links. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that aWS RAM enables resource sharing without making the spoke account the transit resource owner; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Centralized inspection requires deliberate forward-and-return routing through the same stateful middlebox path explains a different case, for example when a company wants security appliances in one inspection VPC but discovers spoke traffic can bypass the appliance. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that aWS RAM enables resource sharing without making the spoke account the transit resource owner; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Shared VPCs centralize subnet administration while participants retain ownership of their supported resources explains a different case, for example when many application accounts share centrally owned subnet infrastructure but require isolated resource ownership. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that aWS RAM enables resource sharing without making the spoke account the transit resource owner; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 278
What failure mode is MOST relevant if a team ignores this issue: A team configured a Direct Connect private VIF but selected the wrong AWS account's virtual private gateway?
Identical routing attributes may distribute flows differently from a specified active-passive intent
A correctly tagged VLAN cannot deliver traffic to an unrelated gateway
Treating unrelated circuits as one valid LAG can fail provisioning or resiliency requirements
A single configured tunnel loses the redundancy offered by the service
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
A correctly tagged VLAN cannot deliver traffic to an unrelated gateway. The missing control matters because gateway attachments and association permissions govern which VPC receives hybrid prefixes. The appropriate corrective action is to associate the VIF or Direct Connect gateway with the supported target gateway and verify ownership. To check the outcome, verify that attachment associations show the expected AWS resource and route reachability.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Identical routing attributes may distribute flows differently from a specified active-passive intent can be a real consequence when a connection uses two Direct Connect links and business policy requires a preferred active path rather than equal splitting. Here the relevant failure is that a correctly tagged VLAN cannot deliver traffic to an unrelated gateway. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Treating unrelated circuits as one valid LAG can fail provisioning or resiliency requirements can be a real consequence when a network team builds a link aggregation group with circuits of incompatible speed or port location. Here the relevant failure is that a correctly tagged VLAN cannot deliver traffic to an unrelated gateway. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
A single configured tunnel loses the redundancy offered by the service can be a real consequence when an enterprise provisions a VPN but only one of its provided tunnel endpoint configurations is deployed. Here the relevant failure is that a correctly tagged VLAN cannot deliver traffic to an unrelated gateway. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 279
A team chooses to Use VPC peering and configure both VPC route tables and applicable security rules after observing: Two VPCs in one Region need a simple low-cost direct connection with nonoverlapping CIDR blocks. Which result would BEST verify the change?
A permitted spoke-to-spoke flow uses only approved Transit Gateway routes
A-to-C reachability exists only via explicit supported direct or transit path
Bidirectional traffic succeeds while unrelated third-party networks remain unreachable
The consumer reaches the specific service without being able to route all provider IP ranges
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Bidirectional traffic succeeds while unrelated third-party networks remain unreachable. This directly tests whether the selected change, use VPC peering and configure both VPC route tables and applicable security rules, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that peering provides direct private connectivity but no automatic transitive routing. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that deploying Transit Gateway for one uncomplicated pair may add avoidable cost and complexity.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A permitted spoke-to-spoke flow uses only approved Transit Gateway routes might confirm another remediation, for instance when a group has dozens of VPCs requiring selective hub-and-spoke reachability rather than hundreds of peering links. This question instead requires demonstrating that bidirectional traffic succeeds while unrelated third-party networks remain unreachable. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
A-to-C reachability exists only via explicit supported direct or transit path might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company wants three VPCs connected through VPC peering and expects traffic from A to reach C by traversing B. This question instead requires demonstrating that bidirectional traffic succeeds while unrelated third-party networks remain unreachable. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
The consumer reaches the specific service without being able to route all provider IP ranges might confirm another remediation, for instance when two teams have overlapping VPC CIDRs but must consume one narrowly defined service privately. This question instead requires demonstrating that bidirectional traffic succeeds while unrelated third-party networks remain unreachable. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 280
A team faces this situation: A public delegated subdomain has been created in Route 53 but the registrar still delegates only to the old name servers. It proposes: Correct authoritative NS delegation at the registrar or parent DNS zone. What underlying networking principle BEST explains this decision?
Outbound endpoint ENI source IPs need permitted DNS transport to target name servers
DNS-based failover quality depends on application-aware endpoint health evidence
Route 53 private hosted zone records are visible only to associated VPC resolution contexts
Public DNS follows delegation chain name-server records rather than the zone console selected by users
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Public DNS follows delegation chain name-server records rather than the zone console selected by users. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, correct authoritative NS delegation at the registrar or parent DNS zone, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, changing records inside an unreferenced hosted zone does not change global resolution. A suitable verification is that independent recursive lookups reach the active Route 53 authoritative name servers.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Outbound endpoint ENI source IPs need permitted DNS transport to target name servers explains a different case, for example when an internal domain resolves correctly on the corporate network but fails in a VPC because the DNS server only answers from approved source IPs. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that public DNS follows delegation chain name-server records rather than the zone console selected by users; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
DNS-based failover quality depends on application-aware endpoint health evidence explains a different case, for example when a Route 53 failover record references a health check that tests only the landing page while the API path is broken. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that public DNS follows delegation chain name-server records rather than the zone console selected by users; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Route 53 private hosted zone records are visible only to associated VPC resolution contexts explains a different case, for example when a private hosted zone resolves from a centralized services VPC but not from a new application VPC. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that public DNS follows delegation chain name-server records rather than the zone console selected by users; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.

AWS ANS-C01 Advanced Networking Specialty: Designing and Operating Complex Networks Before Retirement
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (ANS-C01) remains available in 2026, but it is a retiring certification.AWS states that December 31, 2026 is the last day to take the exam; certifications earned before retirement remain active for the standard three-year period. Candidates who plan to finish during the remaining window should verify scheduling early and prepare from the current exam guide rather than assuming the specialty will continue into 2027.
The exam is intended for networking specialists who design, implement, manage and secure AWS and hybrid network architectures at scale. AWS recommends about five years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing network solutions. That experience expectation is important: ANS-C01 is not a survey of VPC terminology. It asks candidates to combine routing, DNS, hybrid connectivity, multi-account design, edge services, automation, monitoring and security under real operational constraints. A focused overview ofAWS advanced networking can help frame how those topics interact, but the official domains should govern final preparation.
Network Design carries the largest share of the exam
The current ANS-C01 guide weights Network Design at 30% of scored content. The domain includes global edge services and traffic management, public and private DNS, load balancing, logging and monitoring requirements, hybrid routing, and connectivity across multiple accounts, Regions and VPCs. The common skill is architecture: selecting a pattern that meets availability, performance, security and operational requirements before implementation begins.
Advanced designs often have several technically valid options. A candidate may need to choose among Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Global Accelerator, CloudFront or load-balancing patterns based on requirements that are easy to overlook. Transitive routing, overlapping CIDR blocks, private service exposure, encryption, throughput, latency and administrative boundaries can change the right answer even when all choices provide “connectivity.”
This is whyAWS VPC should be understood as the foundation of a wider topology rather than the whole design. CIDR planning, subnet placement, route tables, gateways, endpoints and security controls determine the local behavior, but enterprise architectures then connect many VPCs, accounts and regions. Addressing decisions that look harmless in one VPC can become major constraints when networks need to merge later.
AWS networking specialists routinely connect cloud networks to data centers, branches and other environments. Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN and BGP are therefore central concepts. Candidates should know why multiple connections are used, how routing preferences influence the active path, what happens when a circuit fails, and how encryption requirements affect the design.
The mechanics ofIPsec site-to-site VPNs are especially relevant because a tunnel being “up” does not prove the end-to-end application path is correct. Route propagation, local and remote prefixes, security controls, MTU, NAT and asymmetric routing can all create failures. Strong troubleshooting begins by defining the expected path and then validating each dependency rather than rebuilding the tunnel immediately.
Direct Connect introduces additional design choices such as redundancy, virtual interfaces and interaction with VPN backup. Professional networking judgment means matching the level of resilience to the business requirement. Two connections that share a physical dependency do not provide the same protection as truly diverse paths, and a backup path that has never been tested may fail exactly when it is needed.
Network Implementation tests execution across accounts and regions
Network Implementation represents 26% of scored content. AWS explicitly includes routing and connectivity between on-premises networks and AWS, multi-account and multi-region patterns, complex hybrid DNS, and automation of network infrastructure. Candidates should therefore be able to move from an architecture diagram to concrete behavior: which routes propagate, where attachments belong, how DNS queries flow, and how configuration is created consistently.
Automation matters because large networks cannot be managed reliably through ad hoc console changes. Infrastructure as code, repeatable configuration and controlled deployment reduce drift and make review easier. The exam does not require every automation tool in the AWS portfolio, but candidates should understand why declarative, repeatable network changes are preferable to manual one-off edits in environments with many accounts and regions.
DNS and traffic management are resilience tools
DNS is more than mapping a name to an address. Route 53 routing policies, health checks, public and private hosted zones, resolvers and hybrid forwarding rules can determine where users and applications connect during normal operation and failure. A deeper look atRoute 53 and cloud DNS helps connect record design to availability, but exam questions may require reasoning about split-horizon namespaces, resolver endpoints, forwarding rules and the effect of TTLs on recovery.
Edge and traffic-management services also affect performance. CloudFront, Global Accelerator and Elastic Load Balancing solve different problems. The correct choice depends on protocol, caching needs, user geography, endpoint health, security controls and how traffic should enter the architecture. Candidates should avoid choosing a service simply because it sounds “global”; they should match the service behavior to the application requirement.
Management and Operations turns topology into a supportable service
Network Management and Operation accounts for 20% of scored content. This domain covers maintaining routing and connectivity, monitoring network health, troubleshooting performance and resolving complex connectivity problems. The operational challenge is that many failures produce similar symptoms. A user who cannot reach an application might be affected by DNS, routing, NACLs, security groups, endpoint policies, firewall inspection, load-balancer health, BGP advertisements or the application itself.
Good troubleshooting is evidence-based. Determine the expected source, destination and path. Check routing and name resolution. Verify security controls. Use logs and metrics to see whether traffic reaches each layer. Compare a failing flow with a known-good flow where possible. This approach is slower than guessing for the first minute and much faster than changing several network components without a hypothesis.
Observability should also be designed in advance. VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch metrics, load-balancer logs, Route 53 health information and other telemetry are more useful when teams know what question each source can answer. Logging everything without a retention, analysis or alerting plan can create cost without improving supportability.
Security, Compliance and Governance remain network responsibilities
The fourth domain, Network Security, Compliance and Governance, carries 24% of scored content. AWS expects candidates to implement and maintain controls that meet security requirements, validate and audit those controls through monitoring and logging, and maintain confidentiality of network communications. This places security directly inside the networking role.
Security groups and network ACLs provide filtering at different layers, while AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Shield and inspection architectures address additional threat models. PrivateLink and VPC endpoints can reduce public exposure for service access. TLS and IPsec protect communications in different contexts. The exam can ask candidates to choose a design that preserves both required access and evidence for compliance, not merely the design with the most controls.
Multi-account governance adds another dimension. Centralized networking can simplify inspection and connectivity, but it also creates shared dependencies. Distributed models can improve autonomy but increase consistency challenges. Candidates should understand the blast-radius and operational implications of each model rather than treating centralization as automatically better.
AWS networking services must be treated as a toolkit
Production environments rarely depend on one networking service. Reviewing theAWS networking toolkit is useful because advanced scenarios combine VPC constructs with load balancers, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs, Route 53, CloudFront, Global Accelerator, PrivateLink, network security services and monitoring. The exam often rewards the smallest combination that satisfies all stated requirements.
Service limits and operational complexity matter too. Adding another transit layer, NAT path or inspection hop can solve one problem while increasing latency, cost or troubleshooting difficulty. Advanced candidates should be able to explain not only what a service enables but what new dependency it introduces.
Current mechanics and the retirement deadline shape preparation
ANS-C01 currently contains 65 multiple-choice or multiple-response questions and allows 170 minutes. AWS lists the exam at the Specialty level and notes the December 31, 2026 retirement date. The current guide weights the domains as Network Design 30%, Network Implementation 26%, Network Management and Operation 20%, and Network Security, Compliance and Governance 24%.
The retirement date changes preparation strategy. Candidates with strong networking and AWS experience may have enough time to close focused gaps and schedule before year-end. Candidates who are still learning basic routing, VPC concepts or hybrid networking should be realistic about whether rushing the specialty produces lasting skill. AWS states that no new Advanced Networking – Specialty certifications will be issued after retirement and directs learners to its ongoing networking training portfolio rather than promising an automatic successor exam.
Use architecture drills and failure scenarios to prepare
Build or diagram several recurring patterns: a multi-account hub-and-spoke network, hybrid connectivity with redundant paths, centralized inspection, private service access, cross-region connectivity and public applications with global traffic management. For each design, state the routes, DNS behavior, security boundaries, failure modes and monitoring evidence. Then change one requirement and see whether the architecture still holds.
Failure drills are equally valuable. Withdraw a route, break a resolver rule, misconfigure a security group, create an unhealthy target or alter a BGP advertisement. Trace the symptoms and use logs or metrics to identify the cause. These exercises mirror the exam’s real difficulty: many AWS networking services are easy to define, but complex environments require judgment about how they interact.
ANS-C01 remains a demanding and relevant networking assessment during its final exam window. Candidates who can reason from requirements to topology, implement the path, observe its behavior and secure it under change will be far better prepared than those who memorize isolated service descriptions.

We don't say that these free VCEs sent by our members aren't reliable (experience shows that they are). But you should use your critical thinking as to what you download and memorize.
