Question 960
The team addressed this problem: A deployment job has broad administrator rights just to create one VPC endpoint and associated route entries. Which observation BEST demonstrates the required result?
New attachments include required cost-center and environment tags with denied exceptions
The coordinated change records both sides and a rollback restores the tested original path
A clean account deployment reproduces the approved routes from the same template
The pipeline creates intended endpoints but unrelated network mutations are denied
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
The pipeline creates intended endpoints but unrelated network mutations are denied. This directly tests whether the selected change, grant scoped IAM roles and tightly limit its approved service operations, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that least-privilege automation credentials reduce blast radius of a compromised pipeline. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that embedding permanent administrator keys in CI is unnecessary network-management risk.
Incorrect Answers
A:
New attachments include required cost-center and environment tags with denied exceptions might confirm another remediation, for instance when a network organization wants consistent subnet and Transit Gateway attachment tagging across all business accounts. This question instead requires demonstrating that the pipeline creates intended endpoints but unrelated network mutations are denied. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
The coordinated change records both sides and a rollback restores the tested original path might confirm another remediation, for instance when a branch network device change must synchronize with AWS TGW changes but vendor configuration is committed separately. This question instead requires demonstrating that the pipeline creates intended endpoints but unrelated network mutations are denied. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
A clean account deployment reproduces the approved routes from the same template might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company creates hundreds of VPC route tables manually and cannot reproduce routing decisions after a disaster. This question instead requires demonstrating that the pipeline creates intended endpoints but unrelated network mutations are denied. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 961
A networking team must correct the following AWS condition: A Global Accelerator TCP application uses TLS at the backend but developers think anycast addresses perform encryption. What is the MOST appropriate response?
Keep end-to-end TLS on the actual application listener and verify certificates
Update both tunnel peers to a mutually supported approved IKE and IPsec algorithm suite
Issue and bind certificates whose subject alternative names cover the actual service names
Use an ACM-managed public certificate with monitoring and renewal procedure
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Keep end-to-end TLS on the actual application listener and verify certificates. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because global Accelerator improves network routing but does not inherently encrypt arbitrary TCP payloads. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that static anycast entry addresses alone do not provide confidentiality or authentication. Confirm the improvement by showing that a connection capture confirms TLS between the client and its intended backend.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Update both tunnel peers to a mutually supported approved IKE and IPsec algorithm suite would address a different scenario, such as when a Site-to-Site VPN has an old cipher suite that is no longer permitted under corporate cryptographic policy. The present issue requires keep end-to-end TLS on the actual application listener and verify certificates because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Issue and bind certificates whose subject alternative names cover the actual service names would address a different scenario, such as when a public API rotates keys but clients fail after a new wildcard certificate omits a particular hostname. The present issue requires keep end-to-end TLS on the actual application listener and verify certificates because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Use an ACM-managed public certificate with monitoring and renewal procedure would address a different scenario, such as when a compliance group wants clients to reject an expired ALB certificate before signing into a banking app. The present issue requires keep end-to-end TLS on the actual application listener and verify certificates because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 962
What failure mode is MOST relevant if a team ignores this issue: An AWS organization has a shared VPC but a participant account cannot edit the subnet route table it does not own?
Making everyone a Transit Gateway administrator increases unintended topology changes
Assuming a participant can administer all shared VPC routes ignores the owner-account boundary
An expanded route table does not repair two destinations using the same address block
A valid endpoint ENI cannot authorize a consumer whose principal is not permitted
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Assuming a participant can administer all shared VPC routes ignores the owner-account boundary. The missing control matters because vPC sharing separates ownership of shared network constructs from participant workloads. The appropriate corrective action is to keep routing changes with the VPC owner and allocate permitted participant resource privileges. To check the outcome, verify that the owner updates routes while the participant deploys supported workload resources.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Making everyone a Transit Gateway administrator increases unintended topology changes can be a real consequence when a central networking account wants to accept VPC attachments from member accounts without granting them full gateway administration. Here the relevant failure is that assuming a participant can administer all shared VPC routes ignores the owner-account boundary. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
An expanded route table does not repair two destinations using the same address block can be a real consequence when a multi-account network has many inconsistent VPC subnet CIDRs that overlap a corporate VPN route. Here the relevant failure is that assuming a participant can administer all shared VPC routes ignores the owner-account boundary. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
A valid endpoint ENI cannot authorize a consumer whose principal is not permitted can be a real consequence when a provider account restricts PrivateLink endpoint-service connections but a new consumer account still cannot connect. Here the relevant failure is that assuming a participant can administer all shared VPC routes ignores the owner-account boundary. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 963
A cloud architect observes the following gap: A global service migration needs only ten percent of DNS answers to direct to a canary regional endpoint. Which outcome is the principal concern?
Changing records inside an unreferenced hosted zone does not change global resolution
An overly broad rule can send normal internet DNS queries to a corporate resolver that cannot answer
Assuming exactly one in ten user connections uses canary ignores resolver caching
A public hosted zone query log is not necessarily a substitute for internal resolver request logs
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Assuming exactly one in ten user connections uses canary ignores resolver caching. The missing control matters because weighted records influence proportions of DNS responses, not guaranteed individual HTTP requests. The appropriate corrective action is to use Route 53 weighted routing with appropriate policies and health checks. To check the outcome, verify that aggregate test resolver answers show the expected statistical routing distribution.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Changing records inside an unreferenced hosted zone does not change global resolution can be a real consequence when a public delegated subdomain has been created in Route 53 but the registrar still delegates only to the old name servers. Here the relevant failure is that assuming exactly one in ten user connections uses canary ignores resolver caching. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
An overly broad rule can send normal internet DNS queries to a corporate resolver that cannot answer can be a real consequence when an EC2 instance needs corporate DNS resolution but a broad forwarding rule also intercepts public domain lookups. Here the relevant failure is that assuming exactly one in ten user connections uses canary ignores resolver caching. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
A public hosted zone query log is not necessarily a substitute for internal resolver request logs can be a real consequence when an enterprise must trace which VPC originated suspicious DNS lookups without full packet capture. Here the relevant failure is that assuming exactly one in ten user connections uses canary ignores resolver caching. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 964
An AWS network architect encounters this situation: An enterprise tries to make private endpoints in many accounts resolve consistently while preserving independent service accounts. Which change BEST meets the documented requirement?
Use VPC peering and configure both VPC route tables and applicable security rules
Use Transit Gateway with segmented attachments and route tables
Use routed egress VPC design with appropriate Transit Gateway attachment and NAT/firewall architecture
Combine service-specific PrivateLink endpoints with controlled DNS records and endpoint policies
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Combine service-specific PrivateLink endpoints with controlled DNS records and endpoint policies. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because name resolution and service-level authorization must complement endpoint networking rather than imply full-network trust. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that hardcoding provider IP addresses bypasses endpoint lifecycle and can break replacement. Confirm the improvement by showing that each consuming account resolves the private service endpoint and unrelated services remain blocked.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Use VPC peering and configure both VPC route tables and applicable security rules would address a different scenario, such as when two VPCs in one Region need a simple low-cost direct connection with nonoverlapping CIDR blocks. The present issue requires combine service-specific PrivateLink endpoints with controlled DNS records and endpoint policies because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Use Transit Gateway with segmented attachments and route tables would address a different scenario, such as when a group has dozens of VPCs requiring selective hub-and-spoke reachability rather than hundreds of peering links. The present issue requires combine service-specific PrivateLink endpoints with controlled DNS records and endpoint policies because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Use routed egress VPC design with appropriate Transit Gateway attachment and NAT/firewall architecture would address a different scenario, such as when a large AWS organization needs egress through centralized networking while preserving per-spoke isolation. The present issue requires combine service-specific PrivateLink endpoints with controlled DNS records and endpoint policies because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 965
An engineer selects the change "Add the intended principal to the endpoint service allow list and approve pending connections as required" because A provider account restricts PrivateLink endpoint-service connections but a new consumer account still cannot connect. Which technical explanation BEST supports it?
PrivateLink service permissions and acceptance policy are separate from network reachability
Transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health
VPC peering does not provide transitive routing across multiple peer connections
Gateway route-table association and propagation provide coarse network segmentation across attachments
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
PrivateLink service permissions and acceptance policy are separate from network reachability. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, add the intended principal to the endpoint service allow list and approve pending connections as required, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, a valid endpoint ENI cannot authorize a consumer whose principal is not permitted. A suitable verification is that approved consumer connection becomes Available and rejected principals remain denied.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health explains a different case, for example when an attached spoke VPC cannot reach another spoke despite both attachments being Available on a Transit Gateway. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that privateLink service permissions and acceptance policy are separate from network reachability; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
VPC peering does not provide transitive routing across multiple peer connections explains a different case, for example when an EC2 application in a peered VPC assumes it can reach a third VPC by using the middle peer. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that privateLink service permissions and acceptance policy are separate from network reachability; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Gateway route-table association and propagation provide coarse network segmentation across attachments explains a different case, for example when a shared Transit Gateway route table receives propagated spokes but a sensitive subnet must never see the audit VPC. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that privateLink service permissions and acceptance policy are separate from network reachability; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 966
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—A web application needs HTTP edge caching and WAF protection but was placed behind a TCP-only NLB—which action should the engineer take?
Use a CloudFront distribution with appropriate viewer certificate and origins
Use CloudFront with an HTTP-capable origin and associate AWS WAF on the distribution
Use private cache behaviors or disable caching for sensitive identity-dependent responses
Configure CloudFront behavior routing and supported origin access restrictions
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Use CloudFront with an HTTP-capable origin and associate AWS WAF on the distribution. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because cloudFront and AWS WAF apply supported layer-seven controls at the edge. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that network Load Balancer alone does not provide equivalent HTTP cache and WAF request inspection. Confirm the improvement by showing that repeated eligible responses are served at edges and blocked HTTP requests do not reach origin.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Use a CloudFront distribution with appropriate viewer certificate and origins would address a different scenario, such as when a website requires viewers in distant locations to reach the nearest available HTTP edge with HTTPS termination. The present issue requires use CloudFront with an HTTP-capable origin and associate AWS WAF on the distribution because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Use private cache behaviors or disable caching for sensitive identity-dependent responses would address a different scenario, such as when an application serves large personalized private documents and must prevent one user's cached response reaching another. The present issue requires use CloudFront with an HTTP-capable origin and associate AWS WAF on the distribution because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Configure CloudFront behavior routing and supported origin access restrictions would address a different scenario, such as when an international API needs path-based origin routing while protecting the origin from direct public use. The present issue requires use CloudFront with an HTTP-capable origin and associate AWS WAF on the distribution because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 967
A cloud architect observes the following gap: A branch network device change must synchronize with AWS TGW changes but vendor configuration is committed separately. Which outcome is the principal concern?
Console-only ad hoc changes create hard-to-audit inconsistent topology
Treating an API create response as operational readiness can cause transient deployment failures
Updating only AWS static routes can strand a branch whose router never changed
Copying a raw VPC ID across accounts creates nonexistent or wrong-target references
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Updating only AWS static routes can strand a branch whose router never changed. The missing control matters because hybrid automation spans both cloud constructs and external network devices with independent failure modes. The appropriate corrective action is to orchestrate approved device APIs and AWS API updates with explicit order and rollback stages. To check the outcome, verify that the coordinated change records both sides and a rollback restores the tested original path.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Console-only ad hoc changes create hard-to-audit inconsistent topology can be a real consequence when a company creates hundreds of VPC route tables manually and cannot reproduce routing decisions after a disaster. Here the relevant failure is that updating only AWS static routes can strand a branch whose router never changed. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
Treating an API create response as operational readiness can cause transient deployment failures can be a real consequence when an infrastructure pipeline creates an interface VPC endpoint then outputs the endpoint ID before it is available. Here the relevant failure is that updating only AWS static routes can strand a branch whose router never changed. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Copying a raw VPC ID across accounts creates nonexistent or wrong-target references can be a real consequence when a multi-account transit network uses fixed VPC IDs in scripts and deployment to new accounts fails. Here the relevant failure is that updating only AWS static routes can strand a branch whose router never changed. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 968
This AWS networking condition remains unresolved: A developer says a security group deny rule should override an earlier allow but SG rules have no explicit deny action. What is the MOST direct risk?
Coarse geographic rules without testing can deny legitimate travelers or global partners
Network-layer CIDR filtering alone cannot distinguish administrative paths on the same address
One correctly configured route table does not prove every subnet follows inspection
Trying to add a nonexistent SG deny rule cannot enforce the required exclusion
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Trying to add a nonexistent SG deny rule cannot enforce the required exclusion. The missing control matters because security groups are allow-only stateful controls, unlike numbered stateless NACL filters. The appropriate corrective action is to move the required explicit subnet deny to an NACL or use compatible firewall policy. To check the outcome, verify that negative traffic is denied by the chosen supported control while valid flows continue.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Coarse geographic rules without testing can deny legitimate travelers or global partners can be a real consequence when a production ALB must accept only approved client geographies under documented policy while retaining measured business exceptions. Here the relevant failure is that trying to add a nonexistent SG deny rule cannot enforce the required exclusion. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
Network-layer CIDR filtering alone cannot distinguish administrative paths on the same address can be a real consequence when a regional edge application needs a custom allowlist for administrative URLs but the rule is attached only to an internal firewall. Here the relevant failure is that trying to add a nonexistent SG deny rule cannot enforce the required exclusion. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
One correctly configured route table does not prove every subnet follows inspection can be a real consequence when a cloud egress inspection design allows application traffic to bypass a Network Firewall route in one availability zone. Here the relevant failure is that trying to add a nonexistent SG deny rule cannot enforce the required exclusion. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 969
An engineer selects the change "Create IaC validation or guardrails that reject routes outside the approved CIDR policy" because A team wants a new VPC module to expose only approved prefixes rather than permitting default routes to any peer. Which technical explanation BEST supports it?
Policy-as-code can detect unsafe route definitions before infrastructure is provisioned
Network automation must reconcile reference dependencies before destructive actions
IaC templates should resolve environment-specific identifiers rather than assuming global IDs
Tags support inventory, ownership and governance but require policy enforcement for consistency
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Policy-as-code can detect unsafe route definitions before infrastructure is provisioned. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, create IaC validation or guardrails that reject routes outside the approved CIDR policy, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, human review alone can miss unauthorized CIDR changes repeated across many stacks. A suitable verification is that a negative test template fails validation before creating a prohibited route.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Network automation must reconcile reference dependencies before destructive actions explains a different case, for example when a team deletes old security groups using a cron job but removes groups still referenced by ENIs. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that policy-as-code can detect unsafe route definitions before infrastructure is provisioned; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
IaC templates should resolve environment-specific identifiers rather than assuming global IDs explains a different case, for example when a multi-account transit network uses fixed VPC IDs in scripts and deployment to new accounts fails. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that policy-as-code can detect unsafe route definitions before infrastructure is provisioned; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Tags support inventory, ownership and governance but require policy enforcement for consistency explains a different case, for example when a network organization wants consistent subnet and Transit Gateway attachment tagging across all business accounts. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that policy-as-code can detect unsafe route definitions before infrastructure is provisioned; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 970
Following remediation of "An on-premises network sends small transactions over dedicated connectivity but a plan proposes a high-capacity redundant DX LAG", what evidence MOST directly establishes that it works?
A controlled multicast publisher reaches subscribed eligible AWS consumers
A measured peak model supports the chosen link capacity and independent failover
CloudFront cache hit and regional egress metrics improve during repeated downloads
Load testing confirms achievable sustained bandwidth on supported instance types
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
A measured peak model supports the chosen link capacity and independent failover. This directly tests whether the selected change, select the appropriate hosted or dedicated Direct Connect capacity and redundancy based on measured demand, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that direct Connect service and port choices should match throughput, resiliency and commercial requirements. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that overprovisioning LAG capacity can add fixed cost without meaningful performance improvement.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A controlled multicast publisher reaches subscribed eligible AWS consumers might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company wants to receive multicast from on premises into AWS applications but its current peering design lacks required support. This question instead requires demonstrating that a measured peak model supports the chosen link capacity and independent failover. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
CloudFront cache hit and regional egress metrics improve during repeated downloads might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company transfers the same static downloads repeatedly between remote users and one AWS Region. This question instead requires demonstrating that a measured peak model supports the chosen link capacity and independent failover. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
Load testing confirms achievable sustained bandwidth on supported instance types might confirm another remediation, for instance when a batch data service saturates one EC2 network path because instances were placed on incompatible network tiers. This question instead requires demonstrating that a measured peak model supports the chosen link capacity and independent failover. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.

AWS ANS-C01 Advanced Networking Specialty: Designing and Operating Complex Networks Before Retirement
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (ANS-C01) remains available in 2026, but it is a retiring certification.AWS states that December 31, 2026 is the last day to take the exam; certifications earned before retirement remain active for the standard three-year period. Candidates who plan to finish during the remaining window should verify scheduling early and prepare from the current exam guide rather than assuming the specialty will continue into 2027.
The exam is intended for networking specialists who design, implement, manage and secure AWS and hybrid network architectures at scale. AWS recommends about five years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing network solutions. That experience expectation is important: ANS-C01 is not a survey of VPC terminology. It asks candidates to combine routing, DNS, hybrid connectivity, multi-account design, edge services, automation, monitoring and security under real operational constraints. A focused overview ofAWS advanced networking can help frame how those topics interact, but the official domains should govern final preparation.
Network Design carries the largest share of the exam
The current ANS-C01 guide weights Network Design at 30% of scored content. The domain includes global edge services and traffic management, public and private DNS, load balancing, logging and monitoring requirements, hybrid routing, and connectivity across multiple accounts, Regions and VPCs. The common skill is architecture: selecting a pattern that meets availability, performance, security and operational requirements before implementation begins.
Advanced designs often have several technically valid options. A candidate may need to choose among Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Global Accelerator, CloudFront or load-balancing patterns based on requirements that are easy to overlook. Transitive routing, overlapping CIDR blocks, private service exposure, encryption, throughput, latency and administrative boundaries can change the right answer even when all choices provide “connectivity.”
This is whyAWS VPC should be understood as the foundation of a wider topology rather than the whole design. CIDR planning, subnet placement, route tables, gateways, endpoints and security controls determine the local behavior, but enterprise architectures then connect many VPCs, accounts and regions. Addressing decisions that look harmless in one VPC can become major constraints when networks need to merge later.
AWS networking specialists routinely connect cloud networks to data centers, branches and other environments. Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN and BGP are therefore central concepts. Candidates should know why multiple connections are used, how routing preferences influence the active path, what happens when a circuit fails, and how encryption requirements affect the design.
The mechanics ofIPsec site-to-site VPNs are especially relevant because a tunnel being “up” does not prove the end-to-end application path is correct. Route propagation, local and remote prefixes, security controls, MTU, NAT and asymmetric routing can all create failures. Strong troubleshooting begins by defining the expected path and then validating each dependency rather than rebuilding the tunnel immediately.
Direct Connect introduces additional design choices such as redundancy, virtual interfaces and interaction with VPN backup. Professional networking judgment means matching the level of resilience to the business requirement. Two connections that share a physical dependency do not provide the same protection as truly diverse paths, and a backup path that has never been tested may fail exactly when it is needed.
Network Implementation tests execution across accounts and regions
Network Implementation represents 26% of scored content. AWS explicitly includes routing and connectivity between on-premises networks and AWS, multi-account and multi-region patterns, complex hybrid DNS, and automation of network infrastructure. Candidates should therefore be able to move from an architecture diagram to concrete behavior: which routes propagate, where attachments belong, how DNS queries flow, and how configuration is created consistently.
Automation matters because large networks cannot be managed reliably through ad hoc console changes. Infrastructure as code, repeatable configuration and controlled deployment reduce drift and make review easier. The exam does not require every automation tool in the AWS portfolio, but candidates should understand why declarative, repeatable network changes are preferable to manual one-off edits in environments with many accounts and regions.
DNS and traffic management are resilience tools
DNS is more than mapping a name to an address. Route 53 routing policies, health checks, public and private hosted zones, resolvers and hybrid forwarding rules can determine where users and applications connect during normal operation and failure. A deeper look atRoute 53 and cloud DNS helps connect record design to availability, but exam questions may require reasoning about split-horizon namespaces, resolver endpoints, forwarding rules and the effect of TTLs on recovery.
Edge and traffic-management services also affect performance. CloudFront, Global Accelerator and Elastic Load Balancing solve different problems. The correct choice depends on protocol, caching needs, user geography, endpoint health, security controls and how traffic should enter the architecture. Candidates should avoid choosing a service simply because it sounds “global”; they should match the service behavior to the application requirement.
Management and Operations turns topology into a supportable service
Network Management and Operation accounts for 20% of scored content. This domain covers maintaining routing and connectivity, monitoring network health, troubleshooting performance and resolving complex connectivity problems. The operational challenge is that many failures produce similar symptoms. A user who cannot reach an application might be affected by DNS, routing, NACLs, security groups, endpoint policies, firewall inspection, load-balancer health, BGP advertisements or the application itself.
Good troubleshooting is evidence-based. Determine the expected source, destination and path. Check routing and name resolution. Verify security controls. Use logs and metrics to see whether traffic reaches each layer. Compare a failing flow with a known-good flow where possible. This approach is slower than guessing for the first minute and much faster than changing several network components without a hypothesis.
Observability should also be designed in advance. VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch metrics, load-balancer logs, Route 53 health information and other telemetry are more useful when teams know what question each source can answer. Logging everything without a retention, analysis or alerting plan can create cost without improving supportability.
Security, Compliance and Governance remain network responsibilities
The fourth domain, Network Security, Compliance and Governance, carries 24% of scored content. AWS expects candidates to implement and maintain controls that meet security requirements, validate and audit those controls through monitoring and logging, and maintain confidentiality of network communications. This places security directly inside the networking role.
Security groups and network ACLs provide filtering at different layers, while AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Shield and inspection architectures address additional threat models. PrivateLink and VPC endpoints can reduce public exposure for service access. TLS and IPsec protect communications in different contexts. The exam can ask candidates to choose a design that preserves both required access and evidence for compliance, not merely the design with the most controls.
Multi-account governance adds another dimension. Centralized networking can simplify inspection and connectivity, but it also creates shared dependencies. Distributed models can improve autonomy but increase consistency challenges. Candidates should understand the blast-radius and operational implications of each model rather than treating centralization as automatically better.
AWS networking services must be treated as a toolkit
Production environments rarely depend on one networking service. Reviewing theAWS networking toolkit is useful because advanced scenarios combine VPC constructs with load balancers, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs, Route 53, CloudFront, Global Accelerator, PrivateLink, network security services and monitoring. The exam often rewards the smallest combination that satisfies all stated requirements.
Service limits and operational complexity matter too. Adding another transit layer, NAT path or inspection hop can solve one problem while increasing latency, cost or troubleshooting difficulty. Advanced candidates should be able to explain not only what a service enables but what new dependency it introduces.
Current mechanics and the retirement deadline shape preparation
ANS-C01 currently contains 65 multiple-choice or multiple-response questions and allows 170 minutes. AWS lists the exam at the Specialty level and notes the December 31, 2026 retirement date. The current guide weights the domains as Network Design 30%, Network Implementation 26%, Network Management and Operation 20%, and Network Security, Compliance and Governance 24%.
The retirement date changes preparation strategy. Candidates with strong networking and AWS experience may have enough time to close focused gaps and schedule before year-end. Candidates who are still learning basic routing, VPC concepts or hybrid networking should be realistic about whether rushing the specialty produces lasting skill. AWS states that no new Advanced Networking – Specialty certifications will be issued after retirement and directs learners to its ongoing networking training portfolio rather than promising an automatic successor exam.
Use architecture drills and failure scenarios to prepare
Build or diagram several recurring patterns: a multi-account hub-and-spoke network, hybrid connectivity with redundant paths, centralized inspection, private service access, cross-region connectivity and public applications with global traffic management. For each design, state the routes, DNS behavior, security boundaries, failure modes and monitoring evidence. Then change one requirement and see whether the architecture still holds.
Failure drills are equally valuable. Withdraw a route, break a resolver rule, misconfigure a security group, create an unhealthy target or alter a BGP advertisement. Trace the symptoms and use logs or metrics to identify the cause. These exercises mirror the exam’s real difficulty: many AWS networking services are easy to define, but complex environments require judgment about how they interact.
ANS-C01 remains a demanding and relevant networking assessment during its final exam window. Candidates who can reason from requirements to topology, implement the path, observe its behavior and secure it under change will be far better prepared than those who memorize isolated service descriptions.
