Question 850
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—A multi-account organization pays for duplicated NAT gateways in every tiny development VPC—which action should the engineer take?
Cache eligible objects at CloudFront edge locations to reduce repeated regional egress
Evaluate centralized egress against resilience, traffic, routing, and data-processing costs
Choose instance bandwidth capabilities and placement appropriate to the throughput objective
Combine performance-based DNS routing with application-relevant health evaluation
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Evaluate centralized egress against resilience, traffic, routing, and data-processing costs. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because centralized NAT can reduce resource count but add transit cost and blast radius. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that centralizing solely to remove hourly NAT cost may increase data transfer and failure impact. Confirm the improvement by showing that a measured cost-and-failover model supports the selected egress design.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Cache eligible objects at CloudFront edge locations to reduce repeated regional egress would address a different scenario, such as when a company transfers the same static downloads repeatedly between remote users and one AWS Region. The present issue requires evaluate centralized egress against resilience, traffic, routing, and data-processing costs because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Choose instance bandwidth capabilities and placement appropriate to the throughput objective would address a different scenario, such as when a batch data service saturates one EC2 network path because instances were placed on incompatible network tiers. The present issue requires evaluate centralized egress against resilience, traffic, routing, and data-processing costs because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Combine performance-based DNS routing with application-relevant health evaluation would address a different scenario, such as when a company has clients across Regions but its Route 53 routing policy always selects the closest region even when that region's app is down. The present issue requires evaluate centralized egress against resilience, traffic, routing, and data-processing costs because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 851
A cloud architect observes the following gap: An internal domain resolves correctly on the corporate network but fails in a VPC because the DNS server only answers from approved source IPs. Which outcome is the principal concern?
A centralized outbound endpoint is not automatically selected by other VPCs
A correct DNS zone record cannot answer queries that never reach its inbound endpoint
A DNS forwarding rule alone does not bypass a target resolver's client ACL
Changing records inside an unreferenced hosted zone does not change global resolution
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
A DNS forwarding rule alone does not bypass a target resolver's client ACL. The missing control matters because outbound endpoint ENI source IPs need permitted DNS transport to target name servers. The appropriate corrective action is to allow the Resolver outbound endpoint source addresses through the corporate DNS firewall. To check the outcome, verify that corporate resolver logs show queries from approved endpoint addresses and responses return.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A centralized outbound endpoint is not automatically selected by other VPCs can be a real consequence when two AWS accounts require shared private DNS resolution but the forwarding rule is only present in the networking account. Here the relevant failure is that a DNS forwarding rule alone does not bypass a target resolver's client ACL. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
A correct DNS zone record cannot answer queries that never reach its inbound endpoint can be a real consequence when an on-premises DNS appliance forwards internal AWS names to a VPC but has no routable destination for the VPC Resolver endpoint IPs. Here the relevant failure is that a DNS forwarding rule alone does not bypass a target resolver's client ACL. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Changing records inside an unreferenced hosted zone does not change global resolution can be a real consequence when a public delegated subdomain has been created in Route 53 but the registrar still delegates only to the old name servers. Here the relevant failure is that a DNS forwarding rule alone does not bypass a target resolver's client ACL. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 852
The team addressed this problem: A trading client needs static anycast IP addresses and TCP endpoint failover across Regions. Which observation BEST demonstrates the required result?
A/B mobile image variants remain distinct while tracking-only requests share cache objects
A test from restricted locations is denied or reaches a permitted regional origin
Cache hit ratio rises and origin request volume falls under equivalent viewer load
Clients retain the same advertised addresses when the unhealthy Region loses traffic
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Clients retain the same advertised addresses when the unhealthy Region loses traffic. This directly tests whether the selected change, use AWS Global Accelerator standard accelerator endpoints with health-aware traffic steering, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that global Accelerator advertises static anycast addresses and uses AWS global network for supported traffic. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that a CloudFront distribution alone is not the right generic TCP anycast front door.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A/B mobile image variants remain distinct while tracking-only requests share cache objects might confirm another remediation, for instance when a news publisher wants different images cached by device class but never by irrelevant tracking parameters. This question instead requires demonstrating that clients retain the same advertised addresses when the unhealthy Region loses traffic. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
A test from restricted locations is denied or reaches a permitted regional origin might confirm another remediation, for instance when a media business has regional data residency rules for viewers and cannot send all users to one origin. This question instead requires demonstrating that clients retain the same advertised addresses when the unhealthy Region loses traffic. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
Cache hit ratio rises and origin request volume falls under equivalent viewer load might confirm another remediation, for instance when a global video publisher has high origin load because viewers repeatedly request the same public media files. This question instead requires demonstrating that clients retain the same advertised addresses when the unhealthy Region loses traffic. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 853
For this networking situation, An enterprise must trace which VPC originated suspicious DNS lookups without full packet capture, the team applies "Enable Route 53 Resolver query logging for associated VPCs with protected log delivery". Which validation is strongest?
The same test query is attributed to the expected VPC and stored with required retention
Corporate resolver logs show queries from approved endpoint addresses and responses return
Queries from member VPCs reach the designated corporate DNS servers
Corporate hostnames reach on-premises DNS and unrelated public queries remain available
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
The same test query is attributed to the expected VPC and stored with required retention. This directly tests whether the selected change, enable Route 53 Resolver query logging for associated VPCs with protected log delivery, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that resolver query logs provide query-name and source-related metadata for VPC DNS activity. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that a public hosted zone query log is not necessarily a substitute for internal resolver request logs.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Corporate resolver logs show queries from approved endpoint addresses and responses return might confirm another remediation, for instance when an internal domain resolves correctly on the corporate network but fails in a VPC because the DNS server only answers from approved source IPs. This question instead requires demonstrating that the same test query is attributed to the expected VPC and stored with required retention. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
Queries from member VPCs reach the designated corporate DNS servers might confirm another remediation, for instance when two AWS accounts require shared private DNS resolution but the forwarding rule is only present in the networking account. This question instead requires demonstrating that the same test query is attributed to the expected VPC and stored with required retention. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
Corporate hostnames reach on-premises DNS and unrelated public queries remain available might confirm another remediation, for instance when an EC2 instance needs corporate DNS resolution but a broad forwarding rule also intercepts public domain lookups. This question instead requires demonstrating that the same test query is attributed to the expected VPC and stored with required retention. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 854
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—An application uses Gateway Load Balancer appliances but loses flows when return traffic crosses a different inspection appliance—which action should the engineer take?
Set the supported firewall rule action and stateful inspection policy to enforce intended denial
Enable appropriate symmetric routing and compatible appliance mode and endpoint paths
Associate AWS WAF web ACL with a supported ALB or CloudFront resource
Combine endpoint policy with resource and identity permissions and application authorization
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Enable appropriate symmetric routing and compatible appliance mode and endpoint paths. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because stateful middleboxes rely on retaining flow state for both directions. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that asymmetric flows through different appliances can cause valid packets to be dropped. Confirm the improvement by showing that paired packet traces show each flow and its response through one intended appliance.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Set the supported firewall rule action and stateful inspection policy to enforce intended denial would address a different scenario, such as when a finance environment uses AWS Network Firewall but the rule group is set to log-only while policy requires blocking. The present issue requires enable appropriate symmetric routing and compatible appliance mode and endpoint paths because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Associate AWS WAF web ACL with a supported ALB or CloudFront resource would address a different scenario, such as when an internet-facing application must block malicious HTTP request signatures but preserve normal API calls. The present issue requires enable appropriate symmetric routing and compatible appliance mode and endpoint paths because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Combine endpoint policy with resource and identity permissions and application authorization would address a different scenario, such as when an internal API uses a private endpoint but allows every company user to invoke destructive service operations. The present issue requires enable appropriate symmetric routing and compatible appliance mode and endpoint paths because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 855
A team chooses to Share the gateway using AWS RAM and enforce attachment acceptance and organization policy after observing: A central networking account owns a Transit Gateway, but a workload account cannot attach without approved sharing. Which result would BEST verify the change?
Cross-region probe follows both configured gateway route tables and reaches permitted prefixes
Forward and return flow traces pass the firewall and remain symmetric
The approved attachment becomes available under the intended central control policy
Each consuming account resolves the private service endpoint and unrelated services remain blocked
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
The approved attachment becomes available under the intended central control policy. This directly tests whether the selected change, share the gateway using AWS RAM and enforce attachment acceptance and organization policy, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that aWS RAM enables resource sharing without making the spoke account the transit resource owner. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that copying the Transit Gateway ID alone does not grant the account attachment permission.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Cross-region probe follows both configured gateway route tables and reaches permitted prefixes might confirm another remediation, for instance when a multi-region service requires selected cross-region VPC connectivity without moving packets over ordinary public internet routes. This question instead requires demonstrating that the approved attachment becomes available under the intended central control policy. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
Forward and return flow traces pass the firewall and remain symmetric might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company wants security appliances in one inspection VPC but discovers spoke traffic can bypass the appliance. This question instead requires demonstrating that the approved attachment becomes available under the intended central control policy. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
Each consuming account resolves the private service endpoint and unrelated services remain blocked might confirm another remediation, for instance when an enterprise tries to make private endpoints in many accounts resolve consistently while preserving independent service accounts. This question instead requires demonstrating that the approved attachment becomes available under the intended central control policy. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 856
An AWS network architect encounters this situation: A trading client needs static anycast IP addresses and TCP endpoint failover across Regions. Which change BEST meets the documented requirement?
Use CloudFront origin access control with a scoped S3 bucket policy
Define CloudFront cache policies that vary only on required headers and query strings
Review origin Cache-Control headers and matching distribution cache behavior TTL settings
Use AWS Global Accelerator standard accelerator endpoints with health-aware traffic steering
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Use AWS Global Accelerator standard accelerator endpoints with health-aware traffic steering. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because global Accelerator advertises static anycast addresses and uses AWS global network for supported traffic. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that a CloudFront distribution alone is not the right generic TCP anycast front door. Confirm the improvement by showing that clients retain the same advertised addresses when the unhealthy Region loses traffic.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Use CloudFront origin access control with a scoped S3 bucket policy would address a different scenario, such as when an S3 static asset origin behind CloudFront must deny direct anonymous bucket reads. The present issue requires use AWS Global Accelerator standard accelerator endpoints with health-aware traffic steering because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Define CloudFront cache policies that vary only on required headers and query strings would address a different scenario, such as when a news publisher wants different images cached by device class but never by irrelevant tracking parameters. The present issue requires use AWS Global Accelerator standard accelerator endpoints with health-aware traffic steering because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Review origin Cache-Control headers and matching distribution cache behavior TTL settings would address a different scenario, such as when an online shop sees repeated CloudFront origin fetches for images despite stable object contents. The present issue requires use AWS Global Accelerator standard accelerator endpoints with health-aware traffic steering because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 857
A networking team must correct the following AWS condition: An organization wants automated discovery of broad SSH security-group rules across its accounts. What is the MOST appropriate response?
Use AWS Config evaluations or Firewall Manager policies with scoped alerting and remediation
Use a least-privilege stateful security group with the exact required source and port
Configure restrictive VPC endpoint, IAM, and bucket policy conditions as appropriate
Deploy centralized AWS Network Firewall or governed proxy with explicit egress routes
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Use AWS Config evaluations or Firewall Manager policies with scoped alerting and remediation. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because continuous controls can identify network security drift beyond initial deployment checks. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that a one-time manual security review cannot catch all later permissive rule changes. Confirm the improvement by showing that a deliberately broad test rule produces a finding and the approved correction workflow.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Use a least-privilege stateful security group with the exact required source and port would address a different scenario, such as when an EC2-based application needs inbound HTTPS from a trusted proxy but no public SSH connections. The present issue requires use AWS Config evaluations or Firewall Manager policies with scoped alerting and remediation because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Configure restrictive VPC endpoint, IAM, and bucket policy conditions as appropriate would address a different scenario, such as when an internal endpoint for S3 must permit only a specified business bucket although a subnet route to the service is present. The present issue requires use AWS Config evaluations or Firewall Manager policies with scoped alerting and remediation because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Deploy centralized AWS Network Firewall or governed proxy with explicit egress routes would address a different scenario, such as when an organization needs central domain and IP reputation filtering for outbound workloads in many AWS accounts. The present issue requires use AWS Config evaluations or Firewall Manager policies with scoped alerting and remediation because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 858
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—A VPC interface endpoint is deleted and recreated but scripts still target the former endpoint DNS name—which action should the engineer take?
Add the new subnet CIDR routes on both regional transit tables and VPC route tables
Discover the current endpoint identity and update managed DNS/configuration references
Compare advertised and accepted prefixes and restore the intended route policy
Reconcile endpoint-service permissions, acceptance state, and private DNS configuration
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Discover the current endpoint identity and update managed DNS/configuration references. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because endpoint-specific DNS names and ENI addresses can change through resource replacement. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that hardcoding retired endpoint identifiers makes a valid application route appear broken. Confirm the improvement by showing that consumers resolve the new endpoint and request traces use current ENI destinations.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Add the new subnet CIDR routes on both regional transit tables and VPC route tables would address a different scenario, such as when a cross-region Transit Gateway peer shows up but a newly added subnet cannot reach remote service. The present issue requires discover the current endpoint identity and update managed DNS/configuration references because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Compare advertised and accepted prefixes and restore the intended route policy would address a different scenario, such as when an on-premises application loses access to a VPC after a BGP policy change on the customer Direct Connect router. The present issue requires discover the current endpoint identity and update managed DNS/configuration references because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Reconcile endpoint-service permissions, acceptance state, and private DNS configuration would address a different scenario, such as when a service needs a private cross-account endpoint but a deployment removed its consumer endpoint acceptance. The present issue requires discover the current endpoint identity and update managed DNS/configuration references because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 859
A cloud architect observes the following gap: A distributed branch solution needs SD-WAN appliance integration with Transit Gateway using overlay tunnels. Which outcome is the principal concern?
A public VIF is not equivalent to private connectivity for arbitrary VPC CIDRs
Assuming a dedicated circuit is cryptographically encrypted can violate data-in-transit rules
A generic Site-to-Site VPN connection does not provide the same managed GRE Connect pattern
Creating two VIFs on one router does not eliminate shared physical failure
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
A generic Site-to-Site VPN connection does not provide the same managed GRE Connect pattern. The missing control matters because transit Gateway Connect supports SD-WAN overlay connectivity through the supported attachment model. The appropriate corrective action is to consider Transit Gateway Connect with compatible GRE and BGP overlay capabilities. To check the outcome, verify that overlay BGP neighbors form and selected branch prefixes reach their AWS destinations.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A public VIF is not equivalent to private connectivity for arbitrary VPC CIDRs can be a real consequence when a company needs private access to many VPCs through one dedicated connection without individual VIF per VPC. Here the relevant failure is that a generic Site-to-Site VPN connection does not provide the same managed GRE Connect pattern. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
Assuming a dedicated circuit is cryptographically encrypted can violate data-in-transit rules can be a real consequence when a company must encrypt sensitive hybrid application traffic even though it uses a private Direct Connect circuit. Here the relevant failure is that a generic Site-to-Site VPN connection does not provide the same managed GRE Connect pattern. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Creating two VIFs on one router does not eliminate shared physical failure can be a real consequence when two on-premises data centers require dedicated diverse private circuits to critical AWS Regions. Here the relevant failure is that a generic Site-to-Site VPN connection does not provide the same managed GRE Connect pattern. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 860
A team faces this situation: A proprietary game service needs stable IP-address targets and high-throughput TCP handling. It proposes: Choose a Network Load Balancer with the required listener and target configuration. What underlying networking principle BEST explains this decision?
Application Load Balancer listeners can distribute HTTP traffic among target groups by weight
The AWS Load Balancer Controller reconciles appropriate Kubernetes objects into AWS load balancer resources
TLS termination at a load balancer does not automatically encrypt every backend hop
An NLB provides layer-four load balancing for supported TCP and UDP traffic
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
An NLB provides layer-four load balancing for supported TCP and UDP traffic. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, choose a Network Load Balancer with the required listener and target configuration, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, selecting an ALB for a non-HTTP custom protocol can be incompatible. A suitable verification is that controlled TCP sessions reach healthy backends through the configured network listener.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Application Load Balancer listeners can distribute HTTP traffic among target groups by weight explains a different case, for example when a blue-green API deployment needs weighted HTTP routing to two target groups for a controlled release. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that an NLB provides layer-four load balancing for supported TCP and UDP traffic; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
The AWS Load Balancer Controller reconciles appropriate Kubernetes objects into AWS load balancer resources explains a different case, for example when an EKS platform needs Kubernetes Ingress-driven creation of an ALB across cluster namespaces. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that an NLB provides layer-four load balancing for supported TCP and UDP traffic; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
TLS termination at a load balancer does not automatically encrypt every backend hop explains a different case, for example when an application uses an ALB with HTTPS listeners but must ensure encryption continues to backend instances. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that an NLB provides layer-four load balancing for supported TCP and UDP traffic; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.

AWS ANS-C01 Advanced Networking Specialty: Designing and Operating Complex Networks Before Retirement
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (ANS-C01) remains available in 2026, but it is a retiring certification.AWS states that December 31, 2026 is the last day to take the exam; certifications earned before retirement remain active for the standard three-year period. Candidates who plan to finish during the remaining window should verify scheduling early and prepare from the current exam guide rather than assuming the specialty will continue into 2027.
The exam is intended for networking specialists who design, implement, manage and secure AWS and hybrid network architectures at scale. AWS recommends about five years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing network solutions. That experience expectation is important: ANS-C01 is not a survey of VPC terminology. It asks candidates to combine routing, DNS, hybrid connectivity, multi-account design, edge services, automation, monitoring and security under real operational constraints. A focused overview ofAWS advanced networking can help frame how those topics interact, but the official domains should govern final preparation.
Network Design carries the largest share of the exam
The current ANS-C01 guide weights Network Design at 30% of scored content. The domain includes global edge services and traffic management, public and private DNS, load balancing, logging and monitoring requirements, hybrid routing, and connectivity across multiple accounts, Regions and VPCs. The common skill is architecture: selecting a pattern that meets availability, performance, security and operational requirements before implementation begins.
Advanced designs often have several technically valid options. A candidate may need to choose among Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Global Accelerator, CloudFront or load-balancing patterns based on requirements that are easy to overlook. Transitive routing, overlapping CIDR blocks, private service exposure, encryption, throughput, latency and administrative boundaries can change the right answer even when all choices provide “connectivity.”
This is whyAWS VPC should be understood as the foundation of a wider topology rather than the whole design. CIDR planning, subnet placement, route tables, gateways, endpoints and security controls determine the local behavior, but enterprise architectures then connect many VPCs, accounts and regions. Addressing decisions that look harmless in one VPC can become major constraints when networks need to merge later.
AWS networking specialists routinely connect cloud networks to data centers, branches and other environments. Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN and BGP are therefore central concepts. Candidates should know why multiple connections are used, how routing preferences influence the active path, what happens when a circuit fails, and how encryption requirements affect the design.
The mechanics ofIPsec site-to-site VPNs are especially relevant because a tunnel being “up” does not prove the end-to-end application path is correct. Route propagation, local and remote prefixes, security controls, MTU, NAT and asymmetric routing can all create failures. Strong troubleshooting begins by defining the expected path and then validating each dependency rather than rebuilding the tunnel immediately.
Direct Connect introduces additional design choices such as redundancy, virtual interfaces and interaction with VPN backup. Professional networking judgment means matching the level of resilience to the business requirement. Two connections that share a physical dependency do not provide the same protection as truly diverse paths, and a backup path that has never been tested may fail exactly when it is needed.
Network Implementation tests execution across accounts and regions
Network Implementation represents 26% of scored content. AWS explicitly includes routing and connectivity between on-premises networks and AWS, multi-account and multi-region patterns, complex hybrid DNS, and automation of network infrastructure. Candidates should therefore be able to move from an architecture diagram to concrete behavior: which routes propagate, where attachments belong, how DNS queries flow, and how configuration is created consistently.
Automation matters because large networks cannot be managed reliably through ad hoc console changes. Infrastructure as code, repeatable configuration and controlled deployment reduce drift and make review easier. The exam does not require every automation tool in the AWS portfolio, but candidates should understand why declarative, repeatable network changes are preferable to manual one-off edits in environments with many accounts and regions.
DNS and traffic management are resilience tools
DNS is more than mapping a name to an address. Route 53 routing policies, health checks, public and private hosted zones, resolvers and hybrid forwarding rules can determine where users and applications connect during normal operation and failure. A deeper look atRoute 53 and cloud DNS helps connect record design to availability, but exam questions may require reasoning about split-horizon namespaces, resolver endpoints, forwarding rules and the effect of TTLs on recovery.
Edge and traffic-management services also affect performance. CloudFront, Global Accelerator and Elastic Load Balancing solve different problems. The correct choice depends on protocol, caching needs, user geography, endpoint health, security controls and how traffic should enter the architecture. Candidates should avoid choosing a service simply because it sounds “global”; they should match the service behavior to the application requirement.
Management and Operations turns topology into a supportable service
Network Management and Operation accounts for 20% of scored content. This domain covers maintaining routing and connectivity, monitoring network health, troubleshooting performance and resolving complex connectivity problems. The operational challenge is that many failures produce similar symptoms. A user who cannot reach an application might be affected by DNS, routing, NACLs, security groups, endpoint policies, firewall inspection, load-balancer health, BGP advertisements or the application itself.
Good troubleshooting is evidence-based. Determine the expected source, destination and path. Check routing and name resolution. Verify security controls. Use logs and metrics to see whether traffic reaches each layer. Compare a failing flow with a known-good flow where possible. This approach is slower than guessing for the first minute and much faster than changing several network components without a hypothesis.
Observability should also be designed in advance. VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch metrics, load-balancer logs, Route 53 health information and other telemetry are more useful when teams know what question each source can answer. Logging everything without a retention, analysis or alerting plan can create cost without improving supportability.
Security, Compliance and Governance remain network responsibilities
The fourth domain, Network Security, Compliance and Governance, carries 24% of scored content. AWS expects candidates to implement and maintain controls that meet security requirements, validate and audit those controls through monitoring and logging, and maintain confidentiality of network communications. This places security directly inside the networking role.
Security groups and network ACLs provide filtering at different layers, while AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Shield and inspection architectures address additional threat models. PrivateLink and VPC endpoints can reduce public exposure for service access. TLS and IPsec protect communications in different contexts. The exam can ask candidates to choose a design that preserves both required access and evidence for compliance, not merely the design with the most controls.
Multi-account governance adds another dimension. Centralized networking can simplify inspection and connectivity, but it also creates shared dependencies. Distributed models can improve autonomy but increase consistency challenges. Candidates should understand the blast-radius and operational implications of each model rather than treating centralization as automatically better.
AWS networking services must be treated as a toolkit
Production environments rarely depend on one networking service. Reviewing theAWS networking toolkit is useful because advanced scenarios combine VPC constructs with load balancers, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs, Route 53, CloudFront, Global Accelerator, PrivateLink, network security services and monitoring. The exam often rewards the smallest combination that satisfies all stated requirements.
Service limits and operational complexity matter too. Adding another transit layer, NAT path or inspection hop can solve one problem while increasing latency, cost or troubleshooting difficulty. Advanced candidates should be able to explain not only what a service enables but what new dependency it introduces.
Current mechanics and the retirement deadline shape preparation
ANS-C01 currently contains 65 multiple-choice or multiple-response questions and allows 170 minutes. AWS lists the exam at the Specialty level and notes the December 31, 2026 retirement date. The current guide weights the domains as Network Design 30%, Network Implementation 26%, Network Management and Operation 20%, and Network Security, Compliance and Governance 24%.
The retirement date changes preparation strategy. Candidates with strong networking and AWS experience may have enough time to close focused gaps and schedule before year-end. Candidates who are still learning basic routing, VPC concepts or hybrid networking should be realistic about whether rushing the specialty produces lasting skill. AWS states that no new Advanced Networking – Specialty certifications will be issued after retirement and directs learners to its ongoing networking training portfolio rather than promising an automatic successor exam.
Use architecture drills and failure scenarios to prepare
Build or diagram several recurring patterns: a multi-account hub-and-spoke network, hybrid connectivity with redundant paths, centralized inspection, private service access, cross-region connectivity and public applications with global traffic management. For each design, state the routes, DNS behavior, security boundaries, failure modes and monitoring evidence. Then change one requirement and see whether the architecture still holds.
Failure drills are equally valuable. Withdraw a route, break a resolver rule, misconfigure a security group, create an unhealthy target or alter a BGP advertisement. Trace the symptoms and use logs or metrics to identify the cause. These exercises mirror the exam’s real difficulty: many AWS networking services are easy to define, but complex environments require judgment about how they interact.
ANS-C01 remains a demanding and relevant networking assessment during its final exam window. Candidates who can reason from requirements to topology, implement the path, observe its behavior and secure it under change will be far better prepared than those who memorize isolated service descriptions.

We don't say that these free VCEs sent by our members aren't reliable (experience shows that they are). But you should use your critical thinking as to what you download and memorize.
