AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty ANS-C01 Practice Test 69
Question 680
This AWS networking condition remains unresolved: A SaaS application needs customer-specific TXT validation records but should not expose internal private records. What is the MOST direct risk?
Assuming a rule in one VPC automatically applies across all accounts leaves queries broken
Changing an authoritative record does not immediately invalidate remote recursive caches
DNSSEC does not encrypt resolver queries or provide application TLS authentication
Placing an external validation TXT solely in a private hosted zone makes public validation fail
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Placing an external validation TXT solely in a private hosted zone makes public validation fail. The missing control matters because public and private hosted zones with the same domain can contain different visibility-controlled data. The appropriate corrective action is to publish public verification TXT records only in the internet-facing hosted zone. To check the outcome, verify that public DNS returns the validation token and private service names stay unexposed.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Assuming a rule in one VPC automatically applies across all accounts leaves queries broken can be a real consequence when a private application needs one coherent DNS resolution path from many shared-network VPCs to corporate systems. Here the relevant failure is that placing an external validation TXT solely in a private hosted zone makes public validation fail. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
Changing an authoritative record does not immediately invalidate remote recursive caches can be a real consequence when a web administrator changed a DNS record but some users still reach an old destination for several minutes. Here the relevant failure is that placing an external validation TXT solely in a private hosted zone makes public validation fail. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
DNSSEC does not encrypt resolver queries or provide application TLS authentication can be a real consequence when a security team wants signed public DNS answers without falsely claiming that ordinary DNS transport is encrypted. Here the relevant failure is that placing an external validation TXT solely in a private hosted zone makes public validation fail. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 681
A networking team must correct the following AWS condition: A private hosted zone resolves from a centralized services VPC but not from a new application VPC. What is the MOST appropriate response?
Authorize and associate the application VPC with the private hosted zone
Create a reachable Resolver inbound endpoint with permitted SG and hybrid network routes
Share appropriate Resolver rules through RAM and associate them with consuming VPCs
Verify private hosted zone VPC associations, record presence and resolver precedence
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Authorize and associate the application VPC with the private hosted zone. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because route 53 private hosted zone records are visible only to associated VPC resolution contexts. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that sharing a route to the VPC CIDR does not independently grant private DNS zone visibility. Confirm the improvement by showing that the new VPC resolves approved private names while unassociated networks cannot.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Create a reachable Resolver inbound endpoint with permitted SG and hybrid network routes would address a different scenario, such as when an on-premises DNS appliance forwards internal AWS names to a VPC but has no routable destination for the VPC Resolver endpoint IPs. The present issue requires authorize and associate the application VPC with the private hosted zone because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Share appropriate Resolver rules through RAM and associate them with consuming VPCs would address a different scenario, such as when two AWS accounts require shared private DNS resolution but the forwarding rule is only present in the networking account. The present issue requires authorize and associate the application VPC with the private hosted zone because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Verify private hosted zone VPC associations, record presence and resolver precedence would address a different scenario, such as when a company runs a split-horizon domain in public and private hosted zones and finds internal users seeing the wrong record. The present issue requires authorize and associate the application VPC with the private hosted zone because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 682
Following remediation of "A cloud egress inspection design allows application traffic to bypass a Network Firewall route in one availability zone", what evidence MOST directly establishes that it works?
An attempt to use the bypass next hop fails while approved proxy traffic works
Negative and positive tests from each AZ traverse their matching firewall endpoint
Permitted bucket operations succeed and excluded bucket calls fail authorization
Approved test ports work and disallowed connection attempts are rejected
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Negative and positive tests from each AZ traverse their matching firewall endpoint. This directly tests whether the selected change, install complete per-AZ routes through intended firewall endpoints and test all affected subnets, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that availability-zone-specific routing can produce a partial bypass in centralized inspection designs. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that one correctly configured route table does not prove every subnet follows inspection.
Incorrect Answers
A:
An attempt to use the bypass next hop fails while approved proxy traffic works might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company routes all outbound traffic through a transparent proxy but direct routes to the NAT gateway remain available. This question instead requires demonstrating that negative and positive tests from each AZ traverse their matching firewall endpoint. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
Permitted bucket operations succeed and excluded bucket calls fail authorization might confirm another remediation, for instance when an internal endpoint for S3 must permit only a specified business bucket although a subnet route to the service is present. This question instead requires demonstrating that negative and positive tests from each AZ traverse their matching firewall endpoint. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
Approved test ports work and disallowed connection attempts are rejected might confirm another remediation, for instance when a government workload must prove that only approved ports cross an external VPN into a regulated VPC. This question instead requires demonstrating that negative and positive tests from each AZ traverse their matching firewall endpoint. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 683
During an AWS network design review, the team observes: A subnet has enough addresses on paper but ECS tasks cannot create ENIs in one availability zone. Which solution BEST resolves the gap?
Correlate packet path telemetry with TLS and application endpoint health checks
Use Route Analyzer and relevant gateway flow logs with timestamps to identify attachment hops
Measure available subnet IP addresses and ENI quota or resource constraints in the exact zone
Use supported VPC Traffic Mirroring on a scoped interface to a protected analysis appliance
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Measure available subnet IP addresses and ENI quota or resource constraints in the exact zone. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because network interface allocation can be limited by available subnet addresses and service quotas. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that adding CPU to a task does not create free subnet IP addresses for ENIs. Confirm the improvement by showing that fresh tasks launch after verified address capacity is provided.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Correlate packet path telemetry with TLS and application endpoint health checks would address a different scenario, such as when a team sees ACCEPT records in VPC Flow Logs but an HTTPS application still times out. The present issue requires measure available subnet IP addresses and ENI quota or resource constraints in the exact zone because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Use Route Analyzer and relevant gateway flow logs with timestamps to identify attachment hops would address a different scenario, such as when a multi-VPC application shows intermittent failure only when crossing a Transit Gateway after a recent route change. The present issue requires measure available subnet IP addresses and ENI quota or resource constraints in the exact zone because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Use supported VPC Traffic Mirroring on a scoped interface to a protected analysis appliance would address a different scenario, such as when an investigation requires knowing whether an EC2 guest received a malformed packet that flow records cannot describe. The present issue requires measure available subnet IP addresses and ENI quota or resource constraints in the exact zone because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 684
The team addressed this problem: A Transit Gateway attachment is healthy but the production spoke suddenly uses the test network as a next hop. Which observation BEST demonstrates the required result?
Capture and route analysis show both SYN and return packets on the supported peer path
Routing output matches the documented preferred link under steady state
The resolved endpoint ENI accepts permitted TCP calls and denied traffic remains blocked
A route inspection shows production prefixes on the approved gateway attachment
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
A route inspection shows production prefixes on the approved gateway attachment. This directly tests whether the selected change, review attachment route-table association, propagations and more-specific routes, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that transit Gateway route table selection governs which next hop receives each destination prefix. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that an unintended more-specific route can divert only one application subnet.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Capture and route analysis show both SYN and return packets on the supported peer path might confirm another remediation, for instance when a VPC peering change broke one direction of a database connection but the forward route is present. This question instead requires demonstrating that a route inspection shows production prefixes on the approved gateway attachment. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
Routing output matches the documented preferred link under steady state might confirm another remediation, for instance when a standby Direct Connect link becomes preferred unexpectedly after a policy migration. This question instead requires demonstrating that a route inspection shows production prefixes on the approved gateway attachment. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
The resolved endpoint ENI accepts permitted TCP calls and denied traffic remains blocked might confirm another remediation, for instance when an interface endpoint has healthy ENIs but an application reports timeout to the service hostname. This question instead requires demonstrating that a route inspection shows production prefixes on the approved gateway attachment. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 685
An engineer selects the change "Configure verified interface endpoint private DNS or scoped private-zone alias for the endpoint" because An internal API is exposed by PrivateLink but consumers resolve its hostname to a public ALB. Which technical explanation BEST supports it?
PrivateLink DNS must map the desired service name to reachable consumer endpoint ENI addresses
Route 53 private hosted zone records are visible only to associated VPC resolution contexts
Private-zone matching can override public DNS for associated VPCs
DNS can use TCP for larger responses or retry scenarios as well as UDP
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
PrivateLink DNS must map the desired service name to reachable consumer endpoint ENI addresses. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, configure verified interface endpoint private DNS or scoped private-zone alias for the endpoint, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, a private service endpoint without proper DNS can leave clients using unintended public ingress. A suitable verification is that consumer DNS lookups return private endpoint addresses and test calls stay within approved connectivity.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Route 53 private hosted zone records are visible only to associated VPC resolution contexts explains a different case, for example when a private hosted zone resolves from a centralized services VPC but not from a new application VPC. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that privateLink DNS must map the desired service name to reachable consumer endpoint ENI addresses; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Private-zone matching can override public DNS for associated VPCs explains a different case, for example when a company runs a split-horizon domain in public and private hosted zones and finds internal users seeing the wrong record. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that privateLink DNS must map the desired service name to reachable consumer endpoint ENI addresses; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
DNS can use TCP for larger responses or retry scenarios as well as UDP explains a different case, for example when a new on-premises BIND server is allowed to send queries to Route 53 Resolver inbound endpoint over UDP but TCP responses time out. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that privateLink DNS must map the desired service name to reachable consumer endpoint ENI addresses; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 686
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—Two private hosted zones share a suffix and a resolver rule has a more-specific matching domain—which action should the engineer take?
Share Resolver forwarding rules and endpoint connectivity through an approved multi-account pattern
Review matching private-zone and Resolver-rule specificity before adding another rule
Retain VPC DNS resolution support and configure the appropriate private hosted zone associations
Publish child name-server delegation records in the authoritative parent zone
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Review matching private-zone and Resolver-rule specificity before adding another rule. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because hybrid DNS routing decisions depend on matching names and rule scope rather than alphabetical order. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that a broad forwarding rule can intercept names intended for a more-specific private zone. Confirm the improvement by showing that queries for each tested suffix resolve through the intended authoritative destination.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Share Resolver forwarding rules and endpoint connectivity through an approved multi-account pattern would address a different scenario, such as when a private application needs one coherent DNS resolution path from many shared-network VPCs to corporate systems. The present issue requires review matching private-zone and Resolver-rule specificity before adding another rule because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Retain VPC DNS resolution support and configure the appropriate private hosted zone associations would address a different scenario, such as when an EC2 application in a VPC must resolve both internal records and external internet domain names. The present issue requires review matching private-zone and Resolver-rule specificity before adding another rule because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Publish child name-server delegation records in the authoritative parent zone would address a different scenario, such as when a parent domain delegates a subdomain to another independently administered public hosted zone. The present issue requires review matching private-zone and Resolver-rule specificity before adding another rule because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 687
During an AWS network design review, the team observes: A remote office experiences internet variability to the selected AWS VPN region and wants improved entry routing. Which solution BEST resolves the gap?
Consider Transit Gateway Connect with compatible GRE and BGP overlay capabilities
Verify received and advertised BGP routes, filters, and expected ASN relationships
Assess accelerated Site-to-Site VPN compatibility and route to the nearest AWS edge
Deploy customer-gateway redundancy with independent routers and tunnel termination paths
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Assess accelerated Site-to-Site VPN compatibility and route to the nearest AWS edge. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because accelerated VPN can use AWS global network to reduce some internet-path variability. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that an accelerated VPN endpoint does not remove all customer last-mile and tunnel constraints. Confirm the improvement by showing that measured sustained tunnel latency and loss improve under matching supported conditions.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Consider Transit Gateway Connect with compatible GRE and BGP overlay capabilities would address a different scenario, such as when a distributed branch solution needs SD-WAN appliance integration with Transit Gateway using overlay tunnels. The present issue requires assess accelerated Site-to-Site VPN compatibility and route to the nearest AWS edge because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Verify received and advertised BGP routes, filters, and expected ASN relationships would address a different scenario, such as when an on-premises router cannot reach AWS advertised networks because its peer omits required customer prefixes. The present issue requires assess accelerated Site-to-Site VPN compatibility and route to the nearest AWS edge because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Deploy customer-gateway redundancy with independent routers and tunnel termination paths would address a different scenario, such as when a data center wants high availability but two VPN tunnels terminate on the same failing customer device. The present issue requires assess accelerated Site-to-Site VPN compatibility and route to the nearest AWS edge because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 688
This AWS networking condition remains unresolved: A customer says a CloudFront distribution is slow but has no edge cache or origin performance baseline. What is the MOST direct risk?
Treating flow logs as packet capture will omit payload and application request details
One successful ping cannot establish capacity, jitter, or long-term service resilience
Relying only on VPC Flow Logs cannot identify HTTP status code causes
Increasing origin bandwidth without measuring edge misses may not address actual delay
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Increasing origin bandwidth without measuring edge misses may not address actual delay. The missing control matters because cDN cache behavior and origin latency need separate measurements to localize performance bottlenecks. The appropriate corrective action is to collect CloudFront cache statistics and origin response timing indicators where available. To check the outcome, verify that dashboards show cache hit changes and matching origin requests around a test interval.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Treating flow logs as packet capture will omit payload and application request details can be a real consequence when a VPC networking team needs metadata about accepted and rejected connections for an incident baseline. Here the relevant failure is that increasing origin bandwidth without measuring edge misses may not address actual delay. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
B:
One successful ping cannot establish capacity, jitter, or long-term service resilience can be a real consequence when a business needs a defensible hybrid network baseline for latency, packet loss, and utilization before adding Direct Connect. Here the relevant failure is that increasing origin bandwidth without measuring edge misses may not address actual delay. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Relying only on VPC Flow Logs cannot identify HTTP status code causes can be a real consequence when a multi-region API owner wants to distinguish ALB client errors from backend target failures. Here the relevant failure is that increasing origin bandwidth without measuring edge misses may not address actual delay. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 689
A networking team must correct the following AWS condition: An S3 static asset origin behind CloudFront must deny direct anonymous bucket reads. What is the MOST appropriate response?
Use CloudFront origin access control with a scoped S3 bucket policy
Use AWS Global Accelerator standard accelerator endpoints with health-aware traffic steering
Attach both regional ALBs as Global Accelerator endpoints and enable health-based routing
Use private cache behaviors or disable caching for sensitive identity-dependent responses
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Use CloudFront origin access control with a scoped S3 bucket policy. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because origin access control lets CloudFront fetch private S3 objects through supported signed requests. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that making the S3 bucket public undermines the intended CloudFront-only distribution boundary. Confirm the improvement by showing that the CloudFront URL serves expected assets and direct anonymous S3 GET is denied.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Use AWS Global Accelerator standard accelerator endpoints with health-aware traffic steering would address a different scenario, such as when a trading client needs static anycast IP addresses and TCP endpoint failover across Regions. The present issue requires use CloudFront origin access control with a scoped S3 bucket policy because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Attach both regional ALBs as Global Accelerator endpoints and enable health-based routing would address a different scenario, such as when a public application has two regional ALBs and wants traffic to fail away from an entire unhealthy application Region. The present issue requires use CloudFront origin access control with a scoped S3 bucket policy because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Use private cache behaviors or disable caching for sensitive identity-dependent responses would address a different scenario, such as when an application serves large personalized private documents and must prevent one user's cached response reaching another. The present issue requires use CloudFront origin access control with a scoped S3 bucket policy because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 690
What failure mode is MOST relevant if a team ignores this issue: A private hosted zone resolves from a centralized services VPC but not from a new application VPC?
Assuming a public record will answer a missing private-zone name can produce NXDOMAIN
Sharing a route to the VPC CIDR does not independently grant private DNS zone visibility
Changing records inside an unreferenced hosted zone does not change global resolution
Recreating unrelated EC2 instances will not repair a missing DNS rule association
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Sharing a route to the VPC CIDR does not independently grant private DNS zone visibility. The missing control matters because route 53 private hosted zone records are visible only to associated VPC resolution contexts. The appropriate corrective action is to authorize and associate the application VPC with the private hosted zone. To check the outcome, verify that the new VPC resolves approved private names while unassociated networks cannot.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Assuming a public record will answer a missing private-zone name can produce NXDOMAIN can be a real consequence when a company runs a split-horizon domain in public and private hosted zones and finds internal users seeing the wrong record. Here the relevant failure is that sharing a route to the VPC CIDR does not independently grant private DNS zone visibility. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Changing records inside an unreferenced hosted zone does not change global resolution can be a real consequence when a public delegated subdomain has been created in Route 53 but the registrar still delegates only to the old name servers. Here the relevant failure is that sharing a route to the VPC CIDR does not independently grant private DNS zone visibility. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Recreating unrelated EC2 instances will not repair a missing DNS rule association can be a real consequence when a DNS outage affects only a few VPCs after centralized forwarding rule changes. Here the relevant failure is that sharing a route to the VPC CIDR does not independently grant private DNS zone visibility. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.

AWS ANS-C01 Advanced Networking Specialty: Designing and Operating Complex Networks Before Retirement
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (ANS-C01) remains available in 2026, but it is a retiring certification.AWS states that December 31, 2026 is the last day to take the exam; certifications earned before retirement remain active for the standard three-year period. Candidates who plan to finish during the remaining window should verify scheduling early and prepare from the current exam guide rather than assuming the specialty will continue into 2027.
The exam is intended for networking specialists who design, implement, manage and secure AWS and hybrid network architectures at scale. AWS recommends about five years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing network solutions. That experience expectation is important: ANS-C01 is not a survey of VPC terminology. It asks candidates to combine routing, DNS, hybrid connectivity, multi-account design, edge services, automation, monitoring and security under real operational constraints. A focused overview ofAWS advanced networking can help frame how those topics interact, but the official domains should govern final preparation.
Network Design carries the largest share of the exam
The current ANS-C01 guide weights Network Design at 30% of scored content. The domain includes global edge services and traffic management, public and private DNS, load balancing, logging and monitoring requirements, hybrid routing, and connectivity across multiple accounts, Regions and VPCs. The common skill is architecture: selecting a pattern that meets availability, performance, security and operational requirements before implementation begins.
Advanced designs often have several technically valid options. A candidate may need to choose among Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Global Accelerator, CloudFront or load-balancing patterns based on requirements that are easy to overlook. Transitive routing, overlapping CIDR blocks, private service exposure, encryption, throughput, latency and administrative boundaries can change the right answer even when all choices provide “connectivity.”
This is whyAWS VPC should be understood as the foundation of a wider topology rather than the whole design. CIDR planning, subnet placement, route tables, gateways, endpoints and security controls determine the local behavior, but enterprise architectures then connect many VPCs, accounts and regions. Addressing decisions that look harmless in one VPC can become major constraints when networks need to merge later.
AWS networking specialists routinely connect cloud networks to data centers, branches and other environments. Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN and BGP are therefore central concepts. Candidates should know why multiple connections are used, how routing preferences influence the active path, what happens when a circuit fails, and how encryption requirements affect the design.
The mechanics ofIPsec site-to-site VPNs are especially relevant because a tunnel being “up” does not prove the end-to-end application path is correct. Route propagation, local and remote prefixes, security controls, MTU, NAT and asymmetric routing can all create failures. Strong troubleshooting begins by defining the expected path and then validating each dependency rather than rebuilding the tunnel immediately.
Direct Connect introduces additional design choices such as redundancy, virtual interfaces and interaction with VPN backup. Professional networking judgment means matching the level of resilience to the business requirement. Two connections that share a physical dependency do not provide the same protection as truly diverse paths, and a backup path that has never been tested may fail exactly when it is needed.
Network Implementation tests execution across accounts and regions
Network Implementation represents 26% of scored content. AWS explicitly includes routing and connectivity between on-premises networks and AWS, multi-account and multi-region patterns, complex hybrid DNS, and automation of network infrastructure. Candidates should therefore be able to move from an architecture diagram to concrete behavior: which routes propagate, where attachments belong, how DNS queries flow, and how configuration is created consistently.
Automation matters because large networks cannot be managed reliably through ad hoc console changes. Infrastructure as code, repeatable configuration and controlled deployment reduce drift and make review easier. The exam does not require every automation tool in the AWS portfolio, but candidates should understand why declarative, repeatable network changes are preferable to manual one-off edits in environments with many accounts and regions.
DNS and traffic management are resilience tools
DNS is more than mapping a name to an address. Route 53 routing policies, health checks, public and private hosted zones, resolvers and hybrid forwarding rules can determine where users and applications connect during normal operation and failure. A deeper look atRoute 53 and cloud DNS helps connect record design to availability, but exam questions may require reasoning about split-horizon namespaces, resolver endpoints, forwarding rules and the effect of TTLs on recovery.
Edge and traffic-management services also affect performance. CloudFront, Global Accelerator and Elastic Load Balancing solve different problems. The correct choice depends on protocol, caching needs, user geography, endpoint health, security controls and how traffic should enter the architecture. Candidates should avoid choosing a service simply because it sounds “global”; they should match the service behavior to the application requirement.
Management and Operations turns topology into a supportable service
Network Management and Operation accounts for 20% of scored content. This domain covers maintaining routing and connectivity, monitoring network health, troubleshooting performance and resolving complex connectivity problems. The operational challenge is that many failures produce similar symptoms. A user who cannot reach an application might be affected by DNS, routing, NACLs, security groups, endpoint policies, firewall inspection, load-balancer health, BGP advertisements or the application itself.
Good troubleshooting is evidence-based. Determine the expected source, destination and path. Check routing and name resolution. Verify security controls. Use logs and metrics to see whether traffic reaches each layer. Compare a failing flow with a known-good flow where possible. This approach is slower than guessing for the first minute and much faster than changing several network components without a hypothesis.
Observability should also be designed in advance. VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch metrics, load-balancer logs, Route 53 health information and other telemetry are more useful when teams know what question each source can answer. Logging everything without a retention, analysis or alerting plan can create cost without improving supportability.
Security, Compliance and Governance remain network responsibilities
The fourth domain, Network Security, Compliance and Governance, carries 24% of scored content. AWS expects candidates to implement and maintain controls that meet security requirements, validate and audit those controls through monitoring and logging, and maintain confidentiality of network communications. This places security directly inside the networking role.
Security groups and network ACLs provide filtering at different layers, while AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Shield and inspection architectures address additional threat models. PrivateLink and VPC endpoints can reduce public exposure for service access. TLS and IPsec protect communications in different contexts. The exam can ask candidates to choose a design that preserves both required access and evidence for compliance, not merely the design with the most controls.
Multi-account governance adds another dimension. Centralized networking can simplify inspection and connectivity, but it also creates shared dependencies. Distributed models can improve autonomy but increase consistency challenges. Candidates should understand the blast-radius and operational implications of each model rather than treating centralization as automatically better.
AWS networking services must be treated as a toolkit
Production environments rarely depend on one networking service. Reviewing theAWS networking toolkit is useful because advanced scenarios combine VPC constructs with load balancers, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs, Route 53, CloudFront, Global Accelerator, PrivateLink, network security services and monitoring. The exam often rewards the smallest combination that satisfies all stated requirements.
Service limits and operational complexity matter too. Adding another transit layer, NAT path or inspection hop can solve one problem while increasing latency, cost or troubleshooting difficulty. Advanced candidates should be able to explain not only what a service enables but what new dependency it introduces.
Current mechanics and the retirement deadline shape preparation
ANS-C01 currently contains 65 multiple-choice or multiple-response questions and allows 170 minutes. AWS lists the exam at the Specialty level and notes the December 31, 2026 retirement date. The current guide weights the domains as Network Design 30%, Network Implementation 26%, Network Management and Operation 20%, and Network Security, Compliance and Governance 24%.
The retirement date changes preparation strategy. Candidates with strong networking and AWS experience may have enough time to close focused gaps and schedule before year-end. Candidates who are still learning basic routing, VPC concepts or hybrid networking should be realistic about whether rushing the specialty produces lasting skill. AWS states that no new Advanced Networking – Specialty certifications will be issued after retirement and directs learners to its ongoing networking training portfolio rather than promising an automatic successor exam.
Use architecture drills and failure scenarios to prepare
Build or diagram several recurring patterns: a multi-account hub-and-spoke network, hybrid connectivity with redundant paths, centralized inspection, private service access, cross-region connectivity and public applications with global traffic management. For each design, state the routes, DNS behavior, security boundaries, failure modes and monitoring evidence. Then change one requirement and see whether the architecture still holds.
Failure drills are equally valuable. Withdraw a route, break a resolver rule, misconfigure a security group, create an unhealthy target or alter a BGP advertisement. Trace the symptoms and use logs or metrics to identify the cause. These exercises mirror the exam’s real difficulty: many AWS networking services are easy to define, but complex environments require judgment about how they interact.
ANS-C01 remains a demanding and relevant networking assessment during its final exam window. Candidates who can reason from requirements to topology, implement the path, observe its behavior and secure it under change will be far better prepared than those who memorize isolated service descriptions.

We don't say that these free VCEs sent by our members aren't reliable (experience shows that they are). But you should use your critical thinking as to what you download and memorize.
