Question 380
The team addressed this problem: A batch data service saturates one EC2 network path because instances were placed on incompatible network tiers. Which observation BEST demonstrates the required result?
CloudFront cache hit and regional egress metrics improve during repeated downloads
A regional failure test removes the unhealthy target from eligible DNS answers
Cost and latency profiles improve when reads are served within the permitted Region
Load testing confirms achievable sustained bandwidth on supported instance types
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Load testing confirms achievable sustained bandwidth on supported instance types. This directly tests whether the selected change, choose instance bandwidth capabilities and placement appropriate to the throughput objective, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that eC2 network throughput ceilings vary by instance family and workload pattern. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that increasing only disk IOPS does not always raise the network bandwidth ceiling.
Incorrect Answers
A:
CloudFront cache hit and regional egress metrics improve during repeated downloads might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company transfers the same static downloads repeatedly between remote users and one AWS Region. This question instead requires demonstrating that load testing confirms achievable sustained bandwidth on supported instance types. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
A regional failure test removes the unhealthy target from eligible DNS answers might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company has clients across Regions but its Route 53 routing policy always selects the closest region even when that region's app is down. This question instead requires demonstrating that load testing confirms achievable sustained bandwidth on supported instance types. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
Cost and latency profiles improve when reads are served within the permitted Region might confirm another remediation, for instance when a team wants to minimize inter-Region data charges for a global workload with frequent large cross-region responses. This question instead requires demonstrating that load testing confirms achievable sustained bandwidth on supported instance types. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 381
For this networking situation, A company wants three VPCs connected through VPC peering and expects traffic from A to reach C by traversing B, the team applies "Redesign using explicit A-to-C peering or a suitable Transit Gateway transit architecture". Which validation is strongest?
A-to-C reachability exists only via explicit supported direct or transit path
The consumer reaches the specific service without being able to route all provider IP ranges
Cross-region probe follows both configured gateway route tables and reaches permitted prefixes
A permitted spoke-to-spoke flow uses only approved Transit Gateway routes
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
A-to-C reachability exists only via explicit supported direct or transit path. This directly tests whether the selected change, redesign using explicit A-to-C peering or a suitable Transit Gateway transit architecture, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that vPC peering is nontransitive and cannot use one peer as a router to another peer. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that adding a B route to C into VPC A does not create supported peering transit.
Incorrect Answers
B:
The consumer reaches the specific service without being able to route all provider IP ranges might confirm another remediation, for instance when two teams have overlapping VPC CIDRs but must consume one narrowly defined service privately. This question instead requires demonstrating that a-to-C reachability exists only via explicit supported direct or transit path. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
Cross-region probe follows both configured gateway route tables and reaches permitted prefixes might confirm another remediation, for instance when a multi-region service requires selected cross-region VPC connectivity without moving packets over ordinary public internet routes. This question instead requires demonstrating that a-to-C reachability exists only via explicit supported direct or transit path. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
A permitted spoke-to-spoke flow uses only approved Transit Gateway routes might confirm another remediation, for instance when a group has dozens of VPCs requiring selective hub-and-spoke reachability rather than hundreds of peering links. This question instead requires demonstrating that a-to-C reachability exists only via explicit supported direct or transit path. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 382
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—An AWS organization has a shared VPC but a participant account cannot edit the subnet route table it does not own—which action should the engineer take?
Make forward and return Transit Gateway and VPC routes symmetric around stateful inspection
Keep routing changes with the VPC owner and allocate permitted participant resource privileges
Route private-subnet internet traffic to a NAT gateway in a suitable public subnet
Add static peering attachment routes in appropriate Transit Gateway tables for each region
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Keep routing changes with the VPC owner and allocate permitted participant resource privileges. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because vPC sharing separates ownership of shared network constructs from participant workloads. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that assuming a participant can administer all shared VPC routes ignores the owner-account boundary. Confirm the improvement by showing that the owner updates routes while the participant deploys supported workload resources.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Make forward and return Transit Gateway and VPC routes symmetric around stateful inspection would address a different scenario, such as when an EKS application connects to a private database through Transit Gateway but replies take a different uninspected route. The present issue requires keep routing changes with the VPC owner and allocate permitted participant resource privileges because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Route private-subnet internet traffic to a NAT gateway in a suitable public subnet would address a different scenario, such as when a team uses a NAT gateway for private-subnet internet access but the private subnet route points to an internet gateway directly. The present issue requires keep routing changes with the VPC owner and allocate permitted participant resource privileges because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Add static peering attachment routes in appropriate Transit Gateway tables for each region would address a different scenario, such as when a multi-region application requires inter-Region Transit Gateway peering but regional routes were not installed. The present issue requires keep routing changes with the VPC owner and allocate permitted participant resource privileges because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 383
During an AWS network design review, the team observes: An enterprise wants routing priority between two BGP peers without changing every application subnet. Which solution BEST resolves the gap?
Design Direct Connect primary and separately routed Site-to-Site VPN backup with BGP preferences
Run supported IPsec VPN over Direct Connect or encrypt application traffic end to end
Set appropriate BGP routing policy and AWS-supported preference mechanisms on relevant hybrid paths
Verify received and advertised BGP routes, filters, and expected ASN relationships
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Set appropriate BGP routing policy and AWS-supported preference mechanisms on relevant hybrid paths. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because bGP path selection uses advertised prefixes and applicable attributes at each decision point. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that changing an instance security group cannot choose one WAN path over another. Confirm the improvement by showing that bGP route advertisements produce the documented active and backup path preference.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Design Direct Connect primary and separately routed Site-to-Site VPN backup with BGP preferences would address a different scenario, such as when a bank needs predictable private connectivity into AWS with an internet VPN failover during circuit outage. The present issue requires set appropriate BGP routing policy and AWS-supported preference mechanisms on relevant hybrid paths because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Run supported IPsec VPN over Direct Connect or encrypt application traffic end to end would address a different scenario, such as when a company must encrypt sensitive hybrid application traffic even though it uses a private Direct Connect circuit. The present issue requires set appropriate BGP routing policy and AWS-supported preference mechanisms on relevant hybrid paths because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Verify received and advertised BGP routes, filters, and expected ASN relationships would address a different scenario, such as when an on-premises router cannot reach AWS advertised networks because its peer omits required customer prefixes. The present issue requires set appropriate BGP routing policy and AWS-supported preference mechanisms on relevant hybrid paths because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 384
The team addressed this problem: A security team enables Route 53 DNSSEC signing and claims it will hide which domains users query. Which observation BEST demonstrates the required result?
Internal clients validate the expected CA chain and certificate renewal completes
New client keys are issued securely and the exposed credentials are revoked
A connection capture confirms TLS between the client and its intended backend
Tampered answers are rejected and confidentiality tests separately validate the chosen transport
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Tampered answers are rejected and confidentiality tests separately validate the chosen transport. This directly tests whether the selected change, clarify DNSSEC integrity protection and implement DNS transport confidentiality separately where supported, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that dNSSEC signs DNS responses but does not encrypt ordinary resolver requests. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that treating authenticated DNS data as secret can expose query metadata to observers.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Internal clients validate the expected CA chain and certificate renewal completes might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company wants central certificate issuance for internal application identities across private VPCs. This question instead requires demonstrating that tampered answers are rejected and confidentiality tests separately validate the chosen transport. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
New client keys are issued securely and the exposed credentials are revoked might confirm another remediation, for instance when an internal service uses mutual TLS but its client certificates are copied into publicly accessible build artifacts. This question instead requires demonstrating that tampered answers are rejected and confidentiality tests separately validate the chosen transport. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
A connection capture confirms TLS between the client and its intended backend might confirm another remediation, for instance when a Global Accelerator TCP application uses TLS at the backend but developers think anycast addresses perform encryption. This question instead requires demonstrating that tampered answers are rejected and confidentiality tests separately validate the chosen transport. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 385
An engineer selects the change "Clarify DNSSEC integrity protection and implement DNS transport confidentiality separately where supported" because A security team enables Route 53 DNSSEC signing and claims it will hide which domains users query. Which technical explanation BEST supports it?
DNSSEC signs DNS responses but does not encrypt ordinary resolver requests
DNS naming and certificate identity must match regardless of whether the IP is private
A private dedicated circuit is not equivalent to encrypted IPsec or TLS transport
Trusting the remote database identity is distinct from simply encrypting connection bytes
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
DNSSEC signs DNS responses but does not encrypt ordinary resolver requests. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, clarify DNSSEC integrity protection and implement DNS transport confidentiality separately where supported, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, treating authenticated DNS data as secret can expose query metadata to observers. A suitable verification is that tampered answers are rejected and confidentiality tests separately validate the chosen transport.
Incorrect Answers
B:
DNS naming and certificate identity must match regardless of whether the IP is private explains a different case, for example when an application uses private DNS for its service but clients fail TLS validation because the certificate contains only the public hostname. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that dNSSEC signs DNS responses but does not encrypt ordinary resolver requests; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
A private dedicated circuit is not equivalent to encrypted IPsec or TLS transport explains a different case, for example when a financial firm uses Direct Connect for regulated traffic but needs cryptographic protection while crossing the private circuit. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that dNSSEC signs DNS responses but does not encrypt ordinary resolver requests; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Trusting the remote database identity is distinct from simply encrypting connection bytes explains a different case, for example when a company uses encrypted RDS connections but EC2 applications do not validate the RDS server certificate. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that dNSSEC signs DNS responses but does not encrypt ordinary resolver requests; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 386
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—An EC2 instance drops UDP while TCP works and a team assumes the security group must be the only blocker—which action should the engineer take?
Compare NLB target group registration, health check listener and application port
Inspect protocol-specific SG, NACL, route, and server listener conditions
Use supported VPC Traffic Mirroring on a scoped interface to a protected analysis appliance
Compare edge CDN and Global Accelerator routing telemetry with regional network baselines
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Inspect protocol-specific SG, NACL, route, and server listener conditions. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because network path failures require examining each packet-filter and endpoint layer. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that a stateful security group allow rule cannot compensate for stateless NACL denial. Confirm the improvement by showing that uDP test packets and replies traverse each approved filter with expected listener behavior.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Compare NLB target group registration, health check listener and application port would address a different scenario, such as when an NLB target is unhealthy while TCP traffic is delivered to a different instance by a manually configured DNS override. The present issue requires inspect protocol-specific SG, NACL, route, and server listener conditions because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Use supported VPC Traffic Mirroring on a scoped interface to a protected analysis appliance would address a different scenario, such as when an investigation requires knowing whether an EC2 guest received a malformed packet that flow records cannot describe. The present issue requires inspect protocol-specific SG, NACL, route, and server listener conditions because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Compare edge CDN and Global Accelerator routing telemetry with regional network baselines would address a different scenario, such as when an API response is slow only for overseas users despite healthy compute and regional ALB metrics. The present issue requires inspect protocol-specific SG, NACL, route, and server listener conditions because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 387
AWS architects plan to Deploy customer-gateway redundancy with independent routers and tunnel termination paths for this requirement: A data center wants high availability but two VPN tunnels terminate on the same failing customer device. Which principle is MOST relevant?
Direct Connect gateway enables supported private routing connectivity to eligible gateways
Provider-side redundant tunnels do not protect against a shared customer-side device failure
A public VIF exchanges suitable public routes to AWS public endpoints rather than arbitrary private VPC prefixes
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Provider-side redundant tunnels do not protect against a shared customer-side device failure. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, deploy customer-gateway redundancy with independent routers and tunnel termination paths, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, relying on dual tunnel count alone leaves one on-premises failure domain. A suitable verification is that a controlled loss of either customer router leaves an independent hybrid route active.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Direct Connect gateway enables supported private routing connectivity to eligible gateways explains a different case, for example when a company needs private access to many VPCs through one dedicated connection without individual VIF per VPC. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that provider-side redundant tunnels do not protect against a shared customer-side device failure; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
Hybrid resiliency requires independent path failure modes and controlled route preference explains a different case, for example when a bank needs predictable private connectivity into AWS with an internet VPN failover during circuit outage. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that provider-side redundant tunnels do not protect against a shared customer-side device failure; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
A public VIF exchanges suitable public routes to AWS public endpoints rather than arbitrary private VPC prefixes explains a different case, for example when a corporate office needs AWS public service endpoints over a dedicated public routing path without private VPC address exchange. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that provider-side redundant tunnels do not protect against a shared customer-side device failure; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 388
The team addressed this problem: An interface endpoint exists but its private DNS alias is disabled and applications still resolve a public service address. Which observation BEST demonstrates the required result?
Forward and response flows use the peering connection and meet security policy
The owner updates routes while the participant deploys supported workload resources
A reserved-pool allocation rejects conflicting CIDRs and the hybrid route is unambiguous
DNS answers resolve to endpoint ENI addresses and permitted calls stay private
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
DNS answers resolve to endpoint ENI addresses and permitted calls stay private. This directly tests whether the selected change, enable the supported private DNS option or use the endpoint-specific private DNS name, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that private DNS can resolve supported public service hostnames to interface endpoint addresses. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that an endpoint resource alone does not force every public hostname onto private addresses.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Forward and response flows use the peering connection and meet security policy might confirm another remediation, for instance when a VPC peering connection shows Active but EC2 hosts in the peer cannot exchange permitted packets. This question instead requires demonstrating that dNS answers resolve to endpoint ENI addresses and permitted calls stay private. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
The owner updates routes while the participant deploys supported workload resources might confirm another remediation, for instance when an AWS organization has a shared VPC but a participant account cannot edit the subnet route table it does not own. This question instead requires demonstrating that dNS answers resolve to endpoint ENI addresses and permitted calls stay private. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
A reserved-pool allocation rejects conflicting CIDRs and the hybrid route is unambiguous might confirm another remediation, for instance when a multi-account network has many inconsistent VPC subnet CIDRs that overlap a corporate VPN route. This question instead requires demonstrating that dNS answers resolve to endpoint ENI addresses and permitted calls stay private. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 389
An engineer selects the change "Plan consistent end-to-end MTU and MSS handling across tunnel encapsulation" because A company has a 1 Gbps Direct Connect and sees packet drops only when sending oversized frames across a VPN overlay. Which technical explanation BEST supports it?
Encapsulation headers reduce usable payload MTU even when underlying links support jumbo frames
Hybrid BGP connectivity depends on policy allowing relevant CIDR exchange across peers
BGP path selection uses advertised prefixes and applicable attributes at each decision point
Encapsulation headers reduce usable payload MTU even when underlying links support jumbo frames. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, plan consistent end-to-end MTU and MSS handling across tunnel encapsulation, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, enabling jumbo frames only on an EC2 instance does not resolve smaller tunnel path MTU. A suitable verification is that trace tests show the largest permitted packet traverses the overlay without blackholing.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Hybrid BGP connectivity depends on policy allowing relevant CIDR exchange across peers explains a different case, for example when an on-premises router cannot reach AWS advertised networks because its peer omits required customer prefixes. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that encapsulation headers reduce usable payload MTU even when underlying links support jumbo frames; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
BGP path selection uses advertised prefixes and applicable attributes at each decision point explains a different case, for example when an enterprise wants routing priority between two BGP peers without changing every application subnet. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that encapsulation headers reduce usable payload MTU even when underlying links support jumbo frames; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Hybrid resiliency requires independent path failure modes and controlled route preference explains a different case, for example when a bank needs predictable private connectivity into AWS with an internet VPN failover during circuit outage. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that encapsulation headers reduce usable payload MTU even when underlying links support jumbo frames; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 390
What failure mode is MOST relevant if a team ignores this issue: A company needs to preserve compliance evidence from ALB, CloudFront, and Network Firewall in one protected location?
A single low-throughput data point without context can trigger false attribution
Only collecting VPC Flow Logs omits request-level and firewall-rule decisions
Only reading application access logs can misattribute a control-plane routing fault
CloudTrail management events do not contain TCP packet payload evidence
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Only collecting VPC Flow Logs omits request-level and firewall-rule decisions. The missing control matters because different AWS networking services emit different schemas that require a governed collection architecture. The appropriate corrective action is to centralize eligible service logs to approved S3 or log ingestion with scoped retention and encryption. To check the outcome, verify that a correlated test request appears in the appropriate normalized log sources.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A single low-throughput data point without context can trigger false attribution can be a real consequence when a network operations dashboard shows an unusual traffic drop but there is no measure of pre-incident throughput. Here the relevant failure is that only collecting VPC Flow Logs omits request-level and firewall-rule decisions. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Only reading application access logs can misattribute a control-plane routing fault can be a real consequence when a SOC wants to distinguish whether a network outage followed a VPC routing update or an application deployment. Here the relevant failure is that only collecting VPC Flow Logs omits request-level and firewall-rule decisions. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
CloudTrail management events do not contain TCP packet payload evidence can be a real consequence when an internal review needs proof that the same TCP conversation was observed at an inspection point during a suspected incident. Here the relevant failure is that only collecting VPC Flow Logs omits request-level and firewall-rule decisions. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.

AWS ANS-C01 Advanced Networking Specialty: Designing and Operating Complex Networks Before Retirement
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (ANS-C01) remains available in 2026, but it is a retiring certification.AWS states that December 31, 2026 is the last day to take the exam; certifications earned before retirement remain active for the standard three-year period. Candidates who plan to finish during the remaining window should verify scheduling early and prepare from the current exam guide rather than assuming the specialty will continue into 2027.
The exam is intended for networking specialists who design, implement, manage and secure AWS and hybrid network architectures at scale. AWS recommends about five years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing network solutions. That experience expectation is important: ANS-C01 is not a survey of VPC terminology. It asks candidates to combine routing, DNS, hybrid connectivity, multi-account design, edge services, automation, monitoring and security under real operational constraints. A focused overview ofAWS advanced networking can help frame how those topics interact, but the official domains should govern final preparation.
Network Design carries the largest share of the exam
The current ANS-C01 guide weights Network Design at 30% of scored content. The domain includes global edge services and traffic management, public and private DNS, load balancing, logging and monitoring requirements, hybrid routing, and connectivity across multiple accounts, Regions and VPCs. The common skill is architecture: selecting a pattern that meets availability, performance, security and operational requirements before implementation begins.
Advanced designs often have several technically valid options. A candidate may need to choose among Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Global Accelerator, CloudFront or load-balancing patterns based on requirements that are easy to overlook. Transitive routing, overlapping CIDR blocks, private service exposure, encryption, throughput, latency and administrative boundaries can change the right answer even when all choices provide “connectivity.”
This is whyAWS VPC should be understood as the foundation of a wider topology rather than the whole design. CIDR planning, subnet placement, route tables, gateways, endpoints and security controls determine the local behavior, but enterprise architectures then connect many VPCs, accounts and regions. Addressing decisions that look harmless in one VPC can become major constraints when networks need to merge later.
AWS networking specialists routinely connect cloud networks to data centers, branches and other environments. Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN and BGP are therefore central concepts. Candidates should know why multiple connections are used, how routing preferences influence the active path, what happens when a circuit fails, and how encryption requirements affect the design.
The mechanics ofIPsec site-to-site VPNs are especially relevant because a tunnel being “up” does not prove the end-to-end application path is correct. Route propagation, local and remote prefixes, security controls, MTU, NAT and asymmetric routing can all create failures. Strong troubleshooting begins by defining the expected path and then validating each dependency rather than rebuilding the tunnel immediately.
Direct Connect introduces additional design choices such as redundancy, virtual interfaces and interaction with VPN backup. Professional networking judgment means matching the level of resilience to the business requirement. Two connections that share a physical dependency do not provide the same protection as truly diverse paths, and a backup path that has never been tested may fail exactly when it is needed.
Network Implementation tests execution across accounts and regions
Network Implementation represents 26% of scored content. AWS explicitly includes routing and connectivity between on-premises networks and AWS, multi-account and multi-region patterns, complex hybrid DNS, and automation of network infrastructure. Candidates should therefore be able to move from an architecture diagram to concrete behavior: which routes propagate, where attachments belong, how DNS queries flow, and how configuration is created consistently.
Automation matters because large networks cannot be managed reliably through ad hoc console changes. Infrastructure as code, repeatable configuration and controlled deployment reduce drift and make review easier. The exam does not require every automation tool in the AWS portfolio, but candidates should understand why declarative, repeatable network changes are preferable to manual one-off edits in environments with many accounts and regions.
DNS and traffic management are resilience tools
DNS is more than mapping a name to an address. Route 53 routing policies, health checks, public and private hosted zones, resolvers and hybrid forwarding rules can determine where users and applications connect during normal operation and failure. A deeper look atRoute 53 and cloud DNS helps connect record design to availability, but exam questions may require reasoning about split-horizon namespaces, resolver endpoints, forwarding rules and the effect of TTLs on recovery.
Edge and traffic-management services also affect performance. CloudFront, Global Accelerator and Elastic Load Balancing solve different problems. The correct choice depends on protocol, caching needs, user geography, endpoint health, security controls and how traffic should enter the architecture. Candidates should avoid choosing a service simply because it sounds “global”; they should match the service behavior to the application requirement.
Management and Operations turns topology into a supportable service
Network Management and Operation accounts for 20% of scored content. This domain covers maintaining routing and connectivity, monitoring network health, troubleshooting performance and resolving complex connectivity problems. The operational challenge is that many failures produce similar symptoms. A user who cannot reach an application might be affected by DNS, routing, NACLs, security groups, endpoint policies, firewall inspection, load-balancer health, BGP advertisements or the application itself.
Good troubleshooting is evidence-based. Determine the expected source, destination and path. Check routing and name resolution. Verify security controls. Use logs and metrics to see whether traffic reaches each layer. Compare a failing flow with a known-good flow where possible. This approach is slower than guessing for the first minute and much faster than changing several network components without a hypothesis.
Observability should also be designed in advance. VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch metrics, load-balancer logs, Route 53 health information and other telemetry are more useful when teams know what question each source can answer. Logging everything without a retention, analysis or alerting plan can create cost without improving supportability.
Security, Compliance and Governance remain network responsibilities
The fourth domain, Network Security, Compliance and Governance, carries 24% of scored content. AWS expects candidates to implement and maintain controls that meet security requirements, validate and audit those controls through monitoring and logging, and maintain confidentiality of network communications. This places security directly inside the networking role.
Security groups and network ACLs provide filtering at different layers, while AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Shield and inspection architectures address additional threat models. PrivateLink and VPC endpoints can reduce public exposure for service access. TLS and IPsec protect communications in different contexts. The exam can ask candidates to choose a design that preserves both required access and evidence for compliance, not merely the design with the most controls.
Multi-account governance adds another dimension. Centralized networking can simplify inspection and connectivity, but it also creates shared dependencies. Distributed models can improve autonomy but increase consistency challenges. Candidates should understand the blast-radius and operational implications of each model rather than treating centralization as automatically better.
AWS networking services must be treated as a toolkit
Production environments rarely depend on one networking service. Reviewing theAWS networking toolkit is useful because advanced scenarios combine VPC constructs with load balancers, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs, Route 53, CloudFront, Global Accelerator, PrivateLink, network security services and monitoring. The exam often rewards the smallest combination that satisfies all stated requirements.
Service limits and operational complexity matter too. Adding another transit layer, NAT path or inspection hop can solve one problem while increasing latency, cost or troubleshooting difficulty. Advanced candidates should be able to explain not only what a service enables but what new dependency it introduces.
Current mechanics and the retirement deadline shape preparation
ANS-C01 currently contains 65 multiple-choice or multiple-response questions and allows 170 minutes. AWS lists the exam at the Specialty level and notes the December 31, 2026 retirement date. The current guide weights the domains as Network Design 30%, Network Implementation 26%, Network Management and Operation 20%, and Network Security, Compliance and Governance 24%.
The retirement date changes preparation strategy. Candidates with strong networking and AWS experience may have enough time to close focused gaps and schedule before year-end. Candidates who are still learning basic routing, VPC concepts or hybrid networking should be realistic about whether rushing the specialty produces lasting skill. AWS states that no new Advanced Networking – Specialty certifications will be issued after retirement and directs learners to its ongoing networking training portfolio rather than promising an automatic successor exam.
Use architecture drills and failure scenarios to prepare
Build or diagram several recurring patterns: a multi-account hub-and-spoke network, hybrid connectivity with redundant paths, centralized inspection, private service access, cross-region connectivity and public applications with global traffic management. For each design, state the routes, DNS behavior, security boundaries, failure modes and monitoring evidence. Then change one requirement and see whether the architecture still holds.
Failure drills are equally valuable. Withdraw a route, break a resolver rule, misconfigure a security group, create an unhealthy target or alter a BGP advertisement. Trace the symptoms and use logs or metrics to identify the cause. These exercises mirror the exam’s real difficulty: many AWS networking services are easy to define, but complex environments require judgment about how they interact.
ANS-C01 remains a demanding and relevant networking assessment during its final exam window. Candidates who can reason from requirements to topology, implement the path, observe its behavior and secure it under change will be far better prepared than those who memorize isolated service descriptions.

We don't say that these free VCEs sent by our members aren't reliable (experience shows that they are). But you should use your critical thinking as to what you download and memorize.
