Question 990
What failure mode is MOST relevant if a team ignores this issue: An NLB target is unhealthy while TCP traffic is delivered to a different instance by a manually configured DNS override?
A green VPN tunnel metric alone cannot rule out MTU or device performance issues
A green EC2 status check does not prove a target group's application probe passes
Flow-log ACCEPT alone can conceal a failed listener or wrong destination port
A passing CloudFormation syntax check cannot prove the desired resource path
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
A green EC2 status check does not prove a target group's application probe passes. The missing control matters because load-balancer health and client name resolution both affect which service receives packets. The appropriate corrective action is to compare NLB target group registration, health check listener and application port. To check the outcome, verify that corrected target registration becomes healthy and client sessions reach the intended service.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A green VPN tunnel metric alone cannot rule out MTU or device performance issues can be a real consequence when an application sees packet loss after changing a VPN's customer equipment but AWS tunnel metrics show Up. Here the relevant failure is that a green EC2 status check does not prove a target group's application probe passes. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Flow-log ACCEPT alone can conceal a failed listener or wrong destination port can be a real consequence when a team sees ACCEPT records in VPC Flow Logs but an HTTPS application still times out. Here the relevant failure is that a green EC2 status check does not prove a target group's application probe passes. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
A passing CloudFormation syntax check cannot prove the desired resource path can be a real consequence when a production team wants a repeatable signal that approved VPC path permissions remain intact after each change. Here the relevant failure is that a green EC2 status check does not prove a target group's application probe passes. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 991
AWS architects plan to Use service-specific PrivateLink designs and controlled endpoint DNS for each provider for this requirement: An on-premises office needs private access to a service distributed across provider VPCs with overlapping CIDRs. Which principle is MOST relevant?
VPC sharing separates ownership of shared network constructs from participant workloads
Transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health
Interface endpoints provide service-level reachability without resolving overlapping network routing globally
Stateful appliances depend on observing both directions of the same flow
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Interface endpoints provide service-level reachability without resolving overlapping network routing globally. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, use service-specific PrivateLink designs and controlled endpoint DNS for each provider, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, propagating all overlapping provider prefixes into one Transit Gateway is ambiguous. A suitable verification is that clients use private endpoint names and do not receive broad provider route access.
Incorrect Answers
A:
VPC sharing separates ownership of shared network constructs from participant workloads explains a different case, for example when an AWS organization has a shared VPC but a participant account cannot edit the subnet route table it does not own. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that interface endpoints provide service-level reachability without resolving overlapping network routing globally; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
Transit Gateway attachments and route tables control forwarding independently of attachment health explains a different case, for example when an attached spoke VPC cannot reach another spoke despite both attachments being Available on a Transit Gateway. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that interface endpoints provide service-level reachability without resolving overlapping network routing globally; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
D:
Stateful appliances depend on observing both directions of the same flow explains a different case, for example when an EKS application connects to a private database through Transit Gateway but replies take a different uninspected route. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that interface endpoints provide service-level reachability without resolving overlapping network routing globally; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 992
A team faces this situation: A multi-region API owner wants to distinguish ALB client errors from backend target failures. It proposes: Enable ALB access logs and monitor load balancer and target response metrics. What underlying networking principle BEST explains this decision?
Transit Gateway-level flow telemetry can identify attachment context absent from local application logs
Network performance comparisons need consistent vantage points and traffic conditions
Reachability Analyzer models AWS configuration paths and identifies blockers without creating test packets
Layer-seven access logs and target metrics expose request outcomes beyond basic network flows. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, enable ALB access logs and monitor load balancer and target response metrics, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, relying only on VPC Flow Logs cannot identify HTTP status code causes. A suitable verification is that an intentional backend error is visible with the expected request and target status.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Transit Gateway-level flow telemetry can identify attachment context absent from local application logs explains a different case, for example when a shared-services VPC receives unexpected traffic and must correlate which transit attachment it came from. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that layer-seven access logs and target metrics expose request outcomes beyond basic network flows; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
Network performance comparisons need consistent vantage points and traffic conditions explains a different case, for example when a business needs a defensible hybrid network baseline for latency, packet loss, and utilization before adding Direct Connect. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that layer-seven access logs and target metrics expose request outcomes beyond basic network flows; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Reachability Analyzer models AWS configuration paths and identifies blockers without creating test packets explains a different case, for example when a network engineer wants automated proof that a security group and route table permit an intended VPC path. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that layer-seven access logs and target metrics expose request outcomes beyond basic network flows; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
Question 993
For this networking situation, A network engineer opens all ephemeral ports inbound in a security group believing return packets require explicit permits, the team applies "Use minimal stateful SG rules and carefully scope any stateless NACL return ports". Which validation is strongest?
Permitted initiated sessions return successfully without unrelated new inbound access
Unauthorized principals are denied destructive calls even from approved subnets
Route validation confirms no unauthorized external path from the isolated subnet
Negative and positive tests from each AZ traverse their matching firewall endpoint
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Permitted initiated sessions return successfully without unrelated new inbound access. This directly tests whether the selected change, use minimal stateful SG rules and carefully scope any stateless NACL return ports, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that security groups track established flows while NACLs need separate return-traffic policy. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that unnecessary broad inbound SG rules allow new unwanted connections, not just replies.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Unauthorized principals are denied destructive calls even from approved subnets might confirm another remediation, for instance when an internal API uses a private endpoint but allows every company user to invoke destructive service operations. This question instead requires demonstrating that permitted initiated sessions return successfully without unrelated new inbound access. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
Route validation confirms no unauthorized external path from the isolated subnet might confirm another remediation, for instance when a security architect discovers an internet gateway route on a workload subnet that should be isolated from the public internet. This question instead requires demonstrating that permitted initiated sessions return successfully without unrelated new inbound access. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
Negative and positive tests from each AZ traverse their matching firewall endpoint might confirm another remediation, for instance when a cloud egress inspection design allows application traffic to bypass a Network Firewall route in one availability zone. This question instead requires demonstrating that permitted initiated sessions return successfully without unrelated new inbound access. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 994
For this AWS/hybrid networking scenario—An on-premises resolver cannot resolve a private Route 53 hosted zone associated with an application VPC—which action should the engineer take?
Publish child name-server delegation records in the authoritative parent zone
Deploy a Route 53 Resolver inbound endpoint and conditionally forward the private domain from on premises
Enable Route 53 DNSSEC signing and validate the delegation chain at the registrar
Correct Route 53 health-check protocol and endpoint path to represent application readiness
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
Deploy a Route 53 Resolver inbound endpoint and conditionally forward the private domain from on premises. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because inbound Resolver endpoints accept DNS queries from authorized hybrid networks into VPC resolution. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that a public hosted zone will not safely expose internal-only resource names for this requirement. Confirm the improvement by showing that queries from on premises return the intended private records without publishing them publicly.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Publish child name-server delegation records in the authoritative parent zone would address a different scenario, such as when a parent domain delegates a subdomain to another independently administered public hosted zone. The present issue requires deploy a Route 53 Resolver inbound endpoint and conditionally forward the private domain from on premises because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
C:
Enable Route 53 DNSSEC signing and validate the delegation chain at the registrar would address a different scenario, such as when a security team wants signed public DNS answers without falsely claiming that ordinary DNS transport is encrypted. The present issue requires deploy a Route 53 Resolver inbound endpoint and conditionally forward the private domain from on premises because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Correct Route 53 health-check protocol and endpoint path to represent application readiness would address a different scenario, such as when a public application uses two health-checked DNS targets but its health check probes the wrong path. The present issue requires deploy a Route 53 Resolver inbound endpoint and conditionally forward the private domain from on premises because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 995
During an AWS network design review, the team observes: An internal domain resolves correctly on the corporate network but fails in a VPC because the DNS server only answers from approved source IPs. Which solution BEST resolves the gap?
Create a reachable Resolver inbound endpoint with permitted SG and hybrid network routes
Configure health checks or calculated checks that reflect the actual application requirement
Allow the Resolver outbound endpoint source addresses through the corporate DNS firewall
Share appropriate Resolver rules through RAM and associate them with consuming VPCs
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
Allow the Resolver outbound endpoint source addresses through the corporate DNS firewall. The stated configuration and business requirement call for this change because outbound endpoint ENI source IPs need permitted DNS transport to target name servers. Leaving the existing gap unresolved could mean that a DNS forwarding rule alone does not bypass a target resolver's client ACL. Confirm the improvement by showing that corporate resolver logs show queries from approved endpoint addresses and responses return.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Create a reachable Resolver inbound endpoint with permitted SG and hybrid network routes would address a different scenario, such as when an on-premises DNS appliance forwards internal AWS names to a VPC but has no routable destination for the VPC Resolver endpoint IPs. The present issue requires allow the Resolver outbound endpoint source addresses through the corporate DNS firewall because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
B:
Configure health checks or calculated checks that reflect the actual application requirement would address a different scenario, such as when a Route 53 failover record references a health check that tests only the landing page while the API path is broken. The present issue requires allow the Resolver outbound endpoint source addresses through the corporate DNS firewall because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
D:
Share appropriate Resolver rules through RAM and associate them with consuming VPCs would address a different scenario, such as when two AWS accounts require shared private DNS resolution but the forwarding rule is only present in the networking account. The present issue requires allow the Resolver outbound endpoint source addresses through the corporate DNS firewall because the network path and control point are different; the alternative does not directly meet this requirement.
Question 996
The team addressed this problem: A standby Direct Connect link becomes preferred unexpectedly after a policy migration. Which observation BEST demonstrates the required result?
Cross-region probes reach the new subnet and reverse traffic follows approved routes
BGP and route-table views restore the intended VPC prefix with working round-trip probes
Consumers resolve the new endpoint and request traces use current ENI destinations
Routing output matches the documented preferred link under steady state
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Routing output matches the documented preferred link under steady state. This directly tests whether the selected change, inspect customer BGP attributes and AWS-supported path preference behavior, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that primary and backup link selection can change when policy and prefix specificity differ. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that assuming physical link speed alone dictates active route selection can cause surprises.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Cross-region probes reach the new subnet and reverse traffic follows approved routes might confirm another remediation, for instance when a cross-region Transit Gateway peer shows up but a newly added subnet cannot reach remote service. This question instead requires demonstrating that routing output matches the documented preferred link under steady state. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
BGP and route-table views restore the intended VPC prefix with working round-trip probes might confirm another remediation, for instance when an on-premises application loses access to a VPC after a BGP policy change on the customer Direct Connect router. This question instead requires demonstrating that routing output matches the documented preferred link under steady state. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
C:
Consumers resolve the new endpoint and request traces use current ENI destinations might confirm another remediation, for instance when a VPC interface endpoint is deleted and recreated but scripts still target the former endpoint DNS name. This question instead requires demonstrating that routing output matches the documented preferred link under steady state. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 997
A network review finds: A shared Transit Gateway route table receives propagated spokes but a sensitive subnet must never see the audit VPC. Which consequence MOST clearly explains the need for a fix?
Automatically propagating every attachment into one shared table may defeat intended separation
Relying on automatic BGP route propagation across peering is unsupported in this pattern
Traditional VPC peering cannot route overlapping private CIDR blocks to each other
Peering acceptance alone does not install all necessary subnet routes
Explanation
Correct Answer
A:
Automatically propagating every attachment into one shared table may defeat intended separation. The missing control matters because gateway route-table association and propagation provide coarse network segmentation across attachments. The appropriate corrective action is to place the sensitive attachment in a segmented Transit Gateway route table with explicit route controls. To check the outcome, verify that reachability tests prove allowed spokes connect while sensitive-to-audit traffic is blocked.
Incorrect Answers
B:
Relying on automatic BGP route propagation across peering is unsupported in this pattern can be a real consequence when a multi-region application requires inter-Region Transit Gateway peering but regional routes were not installed. Here the relevant failure is that automatically propagating every attachment into one shared table may defeat intended separation. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
Traditional VPC peering cannot route overlapping private CIDR blocks to each other can be a real consequence when two overlapping-address networks want a private single-service connection without NAT routing between all hosts. Here the relevant failure is that automatically propagating every attachment into one shared table may defeat intended separation. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
Peering acceptance alone does not install all necessary subnet routes can be a real consequence when a VPC peering connection shows Active but EC2 hosts in the peer cannot exchange permitted packets. Here the relevant failure is that automatically propagating every attachment into one shared table may defeat intended separation. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 998
What failure mode is MOST relevant if a team ignores this issue: An EC2-based application needs inbound HTTPS from a trusted proxy but no public SSH connections?
A standalone WAF on one application ALB does not filter arbitrary outbound TCP connections
An unrestricted 0.0.0.0/0 administrator port expands unnecessary attack surface
A matching alert alone does not stop prohibited traffic from reaching its target
A private S3 gateway route alone does not prevent access to every otherwise allowed bucket
Explanation
Correct Answer
B:
An unrestricted 0.0.0.0/0 administrator port expands unnecessary attack surface. The missing control matters because security groups use stateful allow rules for supported resources and connections. The appropriate corrective action is to use a least-privilege stateful security group with the exact required source and port. To check the outcome, verify that the proxy can reach HTTPS and unrelated sources cannot open SSH.
Incorrect Answers
A:
A standalone WAF on one application ALB does not filter arbitrary outbound TCP connections can be a real consequence when an organization needs central domain and IP reputation filtering for outbound workloads in many AWS accounts. Here the relevant failure is that an unrestricted 0.0.0.0/0 administrator port expands unnecessary attack surface. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
C:
A matching alert alone does not stop prohibited traffic from reaching its target can be a real consequence when a finance environment uses AWS Network Firewall but the rule group is set to log-only while policy requires blocking. Here the relevant failure is that an unrestricted 0.0.0.0/0 administrator port expands unnecessary attack surface. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
D:
A private S3 gateway route alone does not prevent access to every otherwise allowed bucket can be a real consequence when an internal endpoint for S3 must permit only a specified business bucket although a subnet route to the service is present. Here the relevant failure is that an unrestricted 0.0.0.0/0 administrator port expands unnecessary attack surface. The alternative names a different failure mode and does not best account for the stated condition.
Question 999
A team chooses to Install and verify a more-specific route directing the regulated subnet to inspection after observing: A network engineer uses a summarised /16 route while one /24 subnet requires explicit inspection through another attachment. Which result would BEST verify the change?
Source-path traces and billed transfer show traffic on the intended new exit path
A test principal accesses allowed objects and rejected operations retain clear error evidence
The regulated /24 takes the intended inspection route while ordinary addresses use the summary
Routing output matches the documented preferred link under steady state
Explanation
Correct Answer
C:
The regulated /24 takes the intended inspection route while ordinary addresses use the summary. This directly tests whether the selected change, install and verify a more-specific route directing the regulated subnet to inspection, achieved the intended network outcome. The key mechanism is that longest-prefix selection allows deliberate exception routing when supported and governed. The incident or compliance risk being reduced was that one blanket summary can bypass a more-specific security path if exceptions are absent.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Source-path traces and billed transfer show traffic on the intended new exit path might confirm another remediation, for instance when a company retires a public NAT egress path but monitoring shows applications still using it. This question instead requires demonstrating that the regulated /24 takes the intended inspection route while ordinary addresses use the summary. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
B:
A test principal accesses allowed objects and rejected operations retain clear error evidence might confirm another remediation, for instance when an organization uses VPC endpoints for private S3 access but an endpoint policy now rejects a required object operation. This question instead requires demonstrating that the regulated /24 takes the intended inspection route while ordinary addresses use the summary. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
D:
Routing output matches the documented preferred link under steady state might confirm another remediation, for instance when a standby Direct Connect link becomes preferred unexpectedly after a policy migration. This question instead requires demonstrating that the regulated /24 takes the intended inspection route while ordinary addresses use the summary. The alternative would not validate the selected network fix.
Question 1000
A team faces this situation: A deployment job has broad administrator rights just to create one VPC endpoint and associated route entries. It proposes: Grant scoped IAM roles and tightly limit its approved service operations. What underlying networking principle BEST explains this decision?
Network resources are often provisioned asynchronously and require status validation
IaC templates should resolve environment-specific identifiers rather than assuming global IDs
Network automation must reconcile reference dependencies before destructive actions
Least-privilege automation credentials reduce blast radius of a compromised pipeline
Explanation
Correct Answer
D:
Least-privilege automation credentials reduce blast radius of a compromised pipeline. This mechanism directly explains why the proposed change, grant scoped IAM roles and tightly limit its approved service operations, fits this particular packet path or control requirement. Without it, embedding permanent administrator keys in CI is unnecessary network-management risk. A suitable verification is that the pipeline creates intended endpoints but unrelated network mutations are denied.
Incorrect Answers
A:
Network resources are often provisioned asynchronously and require status validation explains a different case, for example when an infrastructure pipeline creates an interface VPC endpoint then outputs the endpoint ID before it is available. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that least-privilege automation credentials reduce blast radius of a compromised pipeline; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
B:
IaC templates should resolve environment-specific identifiers rather than assuming global IDs explains a different case, for example when a multi-account transit network uses fixed VPC IDs in scripts and deployment to new accounts fails. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that least-privilege automation credentials reduce blast radius of a compromised pipeline; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.
C:
Network automation must reconcile reference dependencies before destructive actions explains a different case, for example when a team deletes old security groups using a cron job but removes groups still referenced by ENIs. In the current topology, the deciding factor is that least-privilege automation credentials reduce blast radius of a compromised pipeline; this choice therefore does not explain the specified remedy.

AWS ANS-C01 Advanced Networking Specialty: Designing and Operating Complex Networks Before Retirement
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (ANS-C01) remains available in 2026, but it is a retiring certification.AWS states that December 31, 2026 is the last day to take the exam; certifications earned before retirement remain active for the standard three-year period. Candidates who plan to finish during the remaining window should verify scheduling early and prepare from the current exam guide rather than assuming the specialty will continue into 2027.
The exam is intended for networking specialists who design, implement, manage and secure AWS and hybrid network architectures at scale. AWS recommends about five years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing network solutions. That experience expectation is important: ANS-C01 is not a survey of VPC terminology. It asks candidates to combine routing, DNS, hybrid connectivity, multi-account design, edge services, automation, monitoring and security under real operational constraints. A focused overview ofAWS advanced networking can help frame how those topics interact, but the official domains should govern final preparation.
Network Design carries the largest share of the exam
The current ANS-C01 guide weights Network Design at 30% of scored content. The domain includes global edge services and traffic management, public and private DNS, load balancing, logging and monitoring requirements, hybrid routing, and connectivity across multiple accounts, Regions and VPCs. The common skill is architecture: selecting a pattern that meets availability, performance, security and operational requirements before implementation begins.
Advanced designs often have several technically valid options. A candidate may need to choose among Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Global Accelerator, CloudFront or load-balancing patterns based on requirements that are easy to overlook. Transitive routing, overlapping CIDR blocks, private service exposure, encryption, throughput, latency and administrative boundaries can change the right answer even when all choices provide “connectivity.”
This is whyAWS VPC should be understood as the foundation of a wider topology rather than the whole design. CIDR planning, subnet placement, route tables, gateways, endpoints and security controls determine the local behavior, but enterprise architectures then connect many VPCs, accounts and regions. Addressing decisions that look harmless in one VPC can become major constraints when networks need to merge later.
AWS networking specialists routinely connect cloud networks to data centers, branches and other environments. Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN and BGP are therefore central concepts. Candidates should know why multiple connections are used, how routing preferences influence the active path, what happens when a circuit fails, and how encryption requirements affect the design.
The mechanics ofIPsec site-to-site VPNs are especially relevant because a tunnel being “up” does not prove the end-to-end application path is correct. Route propagation, local and remote prefixes, security controls, MTU, NAT and asymmetric routing can all create failures. Strong troubleshooting begins by defining the expected path and then validating each dependency rather than rebuilding the tunnel immediately.
Direct Connect introduces additional design choices such as redundancy, virtual interfaces and interaction with VPN backup. Professional networking judgment means matching the level of resilience to the business requirement. Two connections that share a physical dependency do not provide the same protection as truly diverse paths, and a backup path that has never been tested may fail exactly when it is needed.
Network Implementation tests execution across accounts and regions
Network Implementation represents 26% of scored content. AWS explicitly includes routing and connectivity between on-premises networks and AWS, multi-account and multi-region patterns, complex hybrid DNS, and automation of network infrastructure. Candidates should therefore be able to move from an architecture diagram to concrete behavior: which routes propagate, where attachments belong, how DNS queries flow, and how configuration is created consistently.
Automation matters because large networks cannot be managed reliably through ad hoc console changes. Infrastructure as code, repeatable configuration and controlled deployment reduce drift and make review easier. The exam does not require every automation tool in the AWS portfolio, but candidates should understand why declarative, repeatable network changes are preferable to manual one-off edits in environments with many accounts and regions.
DNS and traffic management are resilience tools
DNS is more than mapping a name to an address. Route 53 routing policies, health checks, public and private hosted zones, resolvers and hybrid forwarding rules can determine where users and applications connect during normal operation and failure. A deeper look atRoute 53 and cloud DNS helps connect record design to availability, but exam questions may require reasoning about split-horizon namespaces, resolver endpoints, forwarding rules and the effect of TTLs on recovery.
Edge and traffic-management services also affect performance. CloudFront, Global Accelerator and Elastic Load Balancing solve different problems. The correct choice depends on protocol, caching needs, user geography, endpoint health, security controls and how traffic should enter the architecture. Candidates should avoid choosing a service simply because it sounds “global”; they should match the service behavior to the application requirement.
Management and Operations turns topology into a supportable service
Network Management and Operation accounts for 20% of scored content. This domain covers maintaining routing and connectivity, monitoring network health, troubleshooting performance and resolving complex connectivity problems. The operational challenge is that many failures produce similar symptoms. A user who cannot reach an application might be affected by DNS, routing, NACLs, security groups, endpoint policies, firewall inspection, load-balancer health, BGP advertisements or the application itself.
Good troubleshooting is evidence-based. Determine the expected source, destination and path. Check routing and name resolution. Verify security controls. Use logs and metrics to see whether traffic reaches each layer. Compare a failing flow with a known-good flow where possible. This approach is slower than guessing for the first minute and much faster than changing several network components without a hypothesis.
Observability should also be designed in advance. VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch metrics, load-balancer logs, Route 53 health information and other telemetry are more useful when teams know what question each source can answer. Logging everything without a retention, analysis or alerting plan can create cost without improving supportability.
Security, Compliance and Governance remain network responsibilities
The fourth domain, Network Security, Compliance and Governance, carries 24% of scored content. AWS expects candidates to implement and maintain controls that meet security requirements, validate and audit those controls through monitoring and logging, and maintain confidentiality of network communications. This places security directly inside the networking role.
Security groups and network ACLs provide filtering at different layers, while AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Shield and inspection architectures address additional threat models. PrivateLink and VPC endpoints can reduce public exposure for service access. TLS and IPsec protect communications in different contexts. The exam can ask candidates to choose a design that preserves both required access and evidence for compliance, not merely the design with the most controls.
Multi-account governance adds another dimension. Centralized networking can simplify inspection and connectivity, but it also creates shared dependencies. Distributed models can improve autonomy but increase consistency challenges. Candidates should understand the blast-radius and operational implications of each model rather than treating centralization as automatically better.
AWS networking services must be treated as a toolkit
Production environments rarely depend on one networking service. Reviewing theAWS networking toolkit is useful because advanced scenarios combine VPC constructs with load balancers, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs, Route 53, CloudFront, Global Accelerator, PrivateLink, network security services and monitoring. The exam often rewards the smallest combination that satisfies all stated requirements.
Service limits and operational complexity matter too. Adding another transit layer, NAT path or inspection hop can solve one problem while increasing latency, cost or troubleshooting difficulty. Advanced candidates should be able to explain not only what a service enables but what new dependency it introduces.
Current mechanics and the retirement deadline shape preparation
ANS-C01 currently contains 65 multiple-choice or multiple-response questions and allows 170 minutes. AWS lists the exam at the Specialty level and notes the December 31, 2026 retirement date. The current guide weights the domains as Network Design 30%, Network Implementation 26%, Network Management and Operation 20%, and Network Security, Compliance and Governance 24%.
The retirement date changes preparation strategy. Candidates with strong networking and AWS experience may have enough time to close focused gaps and schedule before year-end. Candidates who are still learning basic routing, VPC concepts or hybrid networking should be realistic about whether rushing the specialty produces lasting skill. AWS states that no new Advanced Networking – Specialty certifications will be issued after retirement and directs learners to its ongoing networking training portfolio rather than promising an automatic successor exam.
Use architecture drills and failure scenarios to prepare
Build or diagram several recurring patterns: a multi-account hub-and-spoke network, hybrid connectivity with redundant paths, centralized inspection, private service access, cross-region connectivity and public applications with global traffic management. For each design, state the routes, DNS behavior, security boundaries, failure modes and monitoring evidence. Then change one requirement and see whether the architecture still holds.
Failure drills are equally valuable. Withdraw a route, break a resolver rule, misconfigure a security group, create an unhealthy target or alter a BGP advertisement. Trace the symptoms and use logs or metrics to identify the cause. These exercises mirror the exam’s real difficulty: many AWS networking services are easy to define, but complex environments require judgment about how they interact.
ANS-C01 remains a demanding and relevant networking assessment during its final exam window. Candidates who can reason from requirements to topology, implement the path, observe its behavior and secure it under change will be far better prepared than those who memorize isolated service descriptions.

We don't say that these free VCEs sent by our members aren't reliable (experience shows that they are). But you should use your critical thinking as to what you download and memorize.
